Hi Everyone,

I am an international student currently looking for job under my OPT, I graduated long back during 2014 Fall. My university is charging me for health insurance, they are enforcing a health insurance on all their students including the one on OPT. The amount of insurance per month is very expensive, I now have a balance of $1500. I wanted to by insurance from third party which would be much cheaper comparatively. Do any of you have the similar experience, where even on your OPTs, the school are enforcing the mandatory insurance? Is it federal law for international student to have mandatory insurance from school? Can we purchase insurance from 3rd party and fulfill the requirement?

Please share any thoughts, experiences, and solutions if you have.

Best Regards
Baibhav Shrestha

Do your university mandate students on OPT to have health insurance?
