Please add your name to the petition.

  • Please be sure to use a correct email and
  • Verify that your email is correct by clicking on the link received in your email.

US Government is capable of giving a lot more support that they have currently given. If we can be united to make this petition successful by getting 100,000 signatures, then the whitehouse has to make a statement and reconsider giving more relief.

If everyone got at least 5 people to sign and asked them to do the same, we can do this. All Nepalis should come together to sign this petition because we have nothing to lose and Nepal has a lot to gain.

A short URL has been created so that it is easier to share. http://sajha.co/nepal

The actual URL is https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/increase-financial-and-humanitarian-relief-earthquake-stricken-nepal-pledge-100-million-help-rebuild-0

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:

Increase financial and humanitarian relief to earthquake stricken Nepal with a pledge of $100 million+ to help rebuild.

An earthquake of 7.8 magnitude hit Nepal on April 25 followed by another devastating 7.3 earthquake on May 12th. To date, there have been well over 100 aftershocks.

The death toll has risen above 8,000 in addition to hundreds of thousands other injured, displaced and made homeless. Several thousand others have been impacted by ensuing landslides.

The aftermath of these events is about to create an additional humanitarian crisis. Several hundred thousand people are threatened: The risk of a potential epidemic crisis may be inevitable. The lack of safe drinking water, food, and shelter will continue to be major issues. There are also growing threats of an increase in human trafficking due to the thousands of displaced families and particularly children.

I was also bit hesitant to sign this petition before but I changed my mind and I signed it a moment ago. You know why...? Its because you might have donated 100-1000 dollars but your one sign can raise 100 million dollars , lots of zeros man ;-) and Nepal can do lot of rebuilding with that amount. For better transparency, Nepalese are much aware now and with internet and social media, truth will come eventually. So people please sign this for the sake of our country and lets raise our voice against the misuse of the fund .

Hesitantly signed it. Now I know I'm doing a wrong thing.

Sure a lot of houses built, but a lot of corruption will be initiated with this too. Unless we learn to stand on our own feet, we'll never prosper on someone else's money. Don't get me wrong, and I know I may be targeted for foul words, I did donate out of compassion and out of responsibility.
But to beg for pampering our corrupt leaders, hell no. I know American leaders love being begged to and showering dollars on our poor country.

No signing.
If they can hide truck and truck load of rice, what type of 'transparency' are you looking for? Money can be wired with no physical evidence.
Why not use this opportunity to pressure the government for transparency of the existing aid money (USA alone has contributed 32 millions).
Have you realized, those who are really helping people on the ground are not the one shouting 'more money'. It seems few individual, NGOs and certain group overseas are very much vocal about this. Becareful of the vultures and the hyenas who will make the most of this disaster.

Vhootee ji,

Thank you for your input. I can't agree more with you. Yes its hard to trust the Nepalese politicians.

Ajha harmo ghar barbad bhako cha...Jooon aagan ma hurkey , joon aagan ma kheley tyahi aagan bhagwan lai pyaro bhako cha....dui char paisa khaye khaosh ..tara yesto situation ma, i think its better to be useful and helpful than to critize. We will have many years to criticize and talk about what went wrong and what could have been done. But I would like you to ask yourself a simple question " Did we do everything in our capacity today to see different Nepal in 10 years? Are we ready to give everything in our power to today , so when we share the stories (good stories ) with our kids? if your answer is yes for both ..then we are heading to right direction and please take 2 mins to sign this. Again, we are all entitled with our own decisions.

I hope things are okay back home with your family and loved ones.

yours Nepali brother,
Lurey

No signing from my side too..

US aid usually goes through usaid, which has very high overhead, consulting etc cost. If they say 100 mil, probably we will get 10 mil in ground. And that also goes through all the freaking INGO/ngo/govt politics. Not worth begging.

If they give directly to PM fund also, foreign aid just make us week. Nepal don't lack resources to sustain this. Villagers can easily manage to make their temp house will little govt assistance, they will need little food to keep them going till next agri season and they will be able to stand back again and bounce back. We need strong leader who can get things done and loves country, not freaking phd or idealistic who gets nothing done, and we can't get that in aid.

Yaaku - Its easy to sit on the couch and watch news and go through some of the pictures in the facebook. The reality in the ground is different my brother. We need to do what we can at the moment. We can deal with what ifs later. I personally deal with hundreds of victim and i will sign this just for their shake. We are just trying to be positive. I spoke to a 6 years old boy who was eating mud. NO THEY ARE NOT CAPABLE at the moment. THEY NEED HELP. Our country needs help and any assistance is great for the country of Nepal. I hope you and you loved ones are okay. lemme know if you want to have a phone chat. I can share many sad stories with you. We are all trying best from our end. But this is the time we go all in and help each other.

Lurey_Bos

It's hard time, we all know that. And trust me I am not just siting in and watching facebook pic. I believe lot of us are doing or have done something. But ofcourse it won't be equal to what you have done on ground. It's not big deal for me to sign this, I am not idealist. I will sign it, cause one nepali brother seems to believe it might a bit.

But I still believe, Nepal govt have resources to feed its people through next season, and it has resources to help them build temp housing, if things are done right. Nepal has received so much remitance for several years, banks has enough liquidity, they already have received decent aid, and they were not able able to spend development budget for last several yrs.

We just don't have right people, and systems in place. And I know that it can't happe over night , but also several years of these international aid has made us weaker and weaker. And trust me I have first hand experience on how money from international agency gets spent.

But again, against my all these thought I will sign this , cause you mentioned about a boy eating mud. My one signature don't cost more then that horrific scene.

I apologize if i sounded rude when i mentioned about sitting on couch ( was just generalizing). Thank you for all you are doing from your capacity. Together we can, divided we fail. Thank you my Nepali brother.

This petition makes no sense at all. America is not obliged to help Nepal but they're already helping a lot. America is no big brother to Nepal to giveaway money just to help rebuild. $100 million is surreal amount to ask.

Tara90, the US govt is not obliged to help anyone as you have said but still, the US govt gives 20 to 30 Billion every year to other countries in humanitarian assistance and international development. 100 million is a tiny portion of that so it is not really a surreal amount.

If noone gave donation saying that leaders going to pocket then the affected ones would never get anything. So if that is your excuse, try coming up with a better excuse.
