KATHMANDU, AUG 26 - A 73-year-old man has apparently committed suicide after being accused by his granddaughter of assisting her father in her rape at Panauti Municipality-2 of Kavrepalanchok district on Tuesday.

Police said Indra Bahadur Karki of Subbagaun in the Municipality committed suicide possibly because of the charges by his granddaughter, Area Police Office, Banepa said.

The girl filed a case at District Police Office on Monday, charging her father, Prakash Karki, of raping her time and again. During the police investigation, the girl also claimed her grandfather too was involved in the rape .

Police have been carrying out investigation into the case. Police arrested the victim's father in connection to the rape case on Monday.

The rape case came to the light after the girl, 19, made suicide attempt due to what appears to be continuous torture. She had been the victim of the crime for the last 11 years. In her suicide note, the victim wrote, “It would be better for her to die than to live as the youngest wife of her father.” She also demanded death sentences to her father and grandfather

The girl has been kept at Kathmandu-based Rakshya Nepal shelter. "The victim's condition is miserable, she is suffering mental trauma," said Menuka Thapa, Chairperson of Rakshya Nepal, "Medical examination of the victim girl is being carried out by doctors."

The accused man has four wives and the girl was the first child from his second wife.
