Last year good Friday, a bhai of mine gifted me with a fancy smart phone ( I am not going to give the brand name as I was commented by someone, about my articles being too brand conscious ;)….lol) and it was indeed a GOOD Friday to me.

I accept, I go crazy without internet at home. When I am out and around the city I don’t care much for the free wi fi or the internet. But when I am home. Maybe I like to be connected to people through Viber or Whatsapp or just surf something to read. Interesting gossips, new tech findings, new movie reviews.

Oh yea! I was talking about my phone. SO most of my work is done through phone, I need to coordinate, need to talk to people and even communicate through SMS. Yea my mum always complains “ katti tyo phone ma jhundina sakeko hola..tyo phone ko ray haru le cancer huncha taha chha ki chaina”. Not that I am always on the phone but every now and then when I am… she happens to cross by…lol.

Anyway, yesterday was Good Friday, so I celebrated my 1 year with my fancy cellphone. In the morning when I was out with my didi, I was explaining to her how I got the phone and its plus points than other phones and blah blah!!! My didi commented “ oi testo nabhann feri jalla tero phone eka tira ani rundai baslas”. I smirked at her and we did what we had to do at the market.

I normally switch my cell to silent mode when I am in meetings and conferences, and of course switch it on immediately when I am out. Just like any normal day, I did the same yesterday and kept moving around with work. I was amazed that my cellphone was on and it was not ringing. Then suddenly I got a call from my mum and found that my phone was functioning normally. Again it went dead after that call. I was trying to send a text to one of my client and it was not passing. I called one of my agent and it was engaged. I thought there is some problem with the network  ( thanks to loadshedding that the towers are not properly charged so the network dies time and again).

The entire while the phone was not ringing. Now my tension is building up. What am I going to do? I don’t have a spare mobile set. I don’t have a spare SIM . Damn! All my contacts are in this phone, now am I going to carry two phones? One for just having the contacts and other one to make calls? I can’t buy another smart phone right away….and another simple phone is not going to help me with work!

I fiddled right and left with the set. Switched it off and on twice. I was losing my mind since I am not a tech savvy person. I called couple of my friends and they never had such problem with their phones. I called the Customer Care and they asked me to check I don’t know what and what on the cellphone and still it was not working. So, here on its first anniversary, my cellphone stopped functioning. My mood was off the entire evening, I didn’t do anything than to sulk. I played with Bhuntu ( remember my pet?) for a while and I felt a little better but not upto my real self.

So with that feeling my Good Friday got over. I heard a ring somewhere in my sleep today. I thought I had such a trauma that I was dreaming of my phone. But NOOOO IT WAS ACTUALLY RINGING in the morning. I got an early morning call from a friend for some work. If it was some other day I would have sworn at him like a sailor but today I happily replied even if the call was pretty early for my Saturday.

Now it’s working fine I don't know how ( really strange). I am stupid to get bother and crippled without a cellphone. Probably the culture has changed that now we can live without people around but we cannot live without our gadgets.I feel bad that it is affecting my life and I am so dependent on it. Can I do anything? Not really. All I am going to do is remember this incident and remind myself that I am not going to get bothered like this coz this is not the end of the world.

Nice one Ambro, I liked the way you've fabricated your piece and made cell phone as a center of attraction. It's so true that technology has been a basic needs now. I wish we can stay away from it but I don't think so. Yet again a nice read, keep it.

Its just your mumblings about your smart phone but yet you can attract readers to read through your writings...... you have a good way of writing....
