If you are in the area, try visiting Journal Square. There are postings on the walls etc. Somehow they do not post in Craigslist. Craigslist rooms are mostly posted by agents who charges 1 mo fees. Also try Harrison , NJ in Craigslist. It is near the Jersey City area. If you do not have a car, you can stay near to PATH station.
