If you work using SSN it may disqualify you for AOS.

Agreed, if it’s employment based, you may not be in trouble if they don’t bother to look into your past employment. If you are not lucky and they did look i to that, it could not just be the RFE but the denial. Hope for the best.

I have never seen that question in the previous I-485 forms. So why you want to volunteer. They usually ask work history for last 5 years. Make sure your OPT, H1, and there are no gaps after graduation are strong.

I believe they look for your work history for the past couple years through your tax returns. As long as you haven't worked using SSN illegally with the past 3-5 years, you need not worry. I got my GC with similar situation as yours without any issue.
