Dear DC Parent(s) of Nepali Children: International Nepali Literary Society (INLS) DC Nepali Education Committee, in collaboration with Nepali organizations in the area is pleased to announce the launching of the DC Nepali Education Project (DCNEP). The committee has devised a Nepali Language Education Program Curriculum that includes kindergarten, school and college level classes. Each class will meet once a week for one hour during the academic year. DCNEP is offering classes for school-aged children on this Fall semester starting Saturday, September 14th, 2002. Fee/Donation: $10.00 per month per course Parents are recognized as the first and most important teachers of children. They are encouraged to become as involved in this program as their schedules permit. Course Description and Schedule: Class 1: Nepali Language for Children-Basic Level Meeting day and time: Every Saturday, 3:30PM-4:30PM, Room 3 and 4 Description: This class is for Kindergarten children with little or no knowledge of Nepali language. Children learn language through interaction, play, and hands-on discovery. The focus of their learning will be on the formation of concepts about themselves and their physical and social environment. Their learning is facilitated by multi-sensory experiences, play, and language development. This program will focus on teaching Nepali language to children in a playful environment and developing Nepali language speaking and listening skills. Students will be introduced to Nepali customs of greetings, respect, friendship, family relations, festivals, Nepali flag, national Anthem as well as Nepali names for colors, flowers, object around the house, body parts, food, fruits, drinks and vegetables. They will be involved in reading Nepali folk tales, songs and playing Nepali games. Instructor: TBD Class 2: Nepali Language Level I Meeting day and time: Saturday, 4:30PM-5:30PM Room 3 and 4 Description: This class is for children and adults six years of age or above with some knowledge of Nepali. Upon completion of this course, students can expect to recognize and pronounce letters correctly, write letters from memory, have small vocabulary, speak short sentences, read the basic two letter words, distinguish between hard and soft sounds and count from 1-10.
