Third Program:

“Revolution through pens; not guns!”:
Supporting Non-Profit Holistic Education in Nepal

Arguably, Nepal’s biggest fundamental need continues to be widespread education. Of what is available in Nepal today, there is a paucity of quality education providers that reach out to the corners of the society.

Yet, unbeknownst to most, some institutions are doing just that. Hindu Vidya Peeth (HVP) is a revolutionary school system that strives to provide holistic education by imparting moral, cultural and spiritual values in addition to standard SLC curriculum in Nepal. HVP introspects on the glorious aspects of the ancient Hindu philosophy and traditions, including yoga and vedas-study, and seeks to inculcate them in a modern context.

HVP Support Group USA is a growing effort of US-based professionals supporting HVP. Now running in its fifth-year, it has been organizing a variety of annual scholarship programs among three HVP schools. Last year, HVPSG/USA organized a school-wide sports competition awarding full scholarships to 18 students.

Join our next ChalPhal program for a discussion on how modest support can add up to help institutions like HVP bring about “revolution through pens, not guns”!

Speaker: Rajesh Babu Shrestha

Rajesh Babu Shrestha is a former President of Greater Boston Nepali Community (GBNC) and one of the initiators of the HVP Support Group USA.
