Synopsis:
The presentation will analyze the critical corruption issues in Nepal from the perspective of the role, functions, scope and challenges faced by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (the ?CIAA?). Dr. Chhetri will elaborate on the investigation procedure, prosecution function of the CIAA, complaints received at the CIAA, success rate, recommendation for departmental actions and prosecuting erring public official in the court of law.
Speaker:
Dr. Chhetri brings to this analytical discussion 25 years of government service experience which ranges from his work in the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Home. While in the Ministry of Home, he took on the responsibility of the Chief District Officer (CDO) in 1995 and 1996. Currently, he is working as the Investigating Officer at CIAA.
Dr. Chhetri earned a Ph.D. from the University of Vienna, Austria in 1995. He carried out a research study in Drug Abuse at the Johns Hopkins University from August 2002 to August 2003. He holds an MA in Economics, Bachelor's Degree in Law, and has completed a 15 month long Post Graduate Research Study in Economics at the Economic University, Vienna, Austria. He also holds a Diploma in International Relations from the University of Vienna.
