Harvard University, Cambridge, MA Perks: Cookies from Chinatown with diet and regular soda Synopsis: Biresh Shah will talk about the medieval urban structure with examples and images from the ancient architecture of Bhatapur City and walk us through the timeline and nature of transformation experienced by the valley - the reasons, the success and failures of the numerous plans, the discrepancy between the forces and projects driving this transformation and attempts to manage the transformation to the resulting urban sprawl today. He will share his experience with a new town planning exercise -Harisiddhi New Town Development Plan, a plan for a sattelite city developed for the government. Speaker: Biresh Shah has worked professionally as an architect, urban designer and urban planner in Nepal for over a decade. He got his Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from Delhi School of Planning and Architecture (Delhi) and Masters in Architecture from MIT(Cambridge). He is an Assistant Professor of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu. He teaches urban conservation related urban design and urban planning studios to architecture and urban planning students at the Bachelor and Masters level programs.
