This concert is going to be the first classical/semiclassical Nepali music performance to a large public gathering in Chicago. The Sur Sudha Musical Group has made command performances for late HM Birendra and oother Nepali royalty. It has performed for the Dalai Lama and with renowned Indian musicians like Zakir Hussain. The objective is to introduce Chicagoland to the music of Nepal. It will be the tunes and melodies rather than the instruments that will be the feature.

The concert is one of a series being held in cities around the US to raise funds for the construction of the Devghat Briddhashram (a senior residence facility) near Narayanghat in Nepal. The artistes have agreed to donate their portion of the revenue to the project.

The project was originally conceived by Dr. Shyam Karki of Rochester, NY and accepted for sponsorship by the Nepalese Americas Council (a coordinating body for some 30 North American Nepali organizations. All funds are being administered by the NAC (www.nepalcouncil.org).

During the October 2003 NRN convention in Kathmandu the project was adopted by the International Coordination Committee of the NRN Association. It was decided that it would be a gift to Nepal from the NRNs around the world. The Bharatpur Chamber of Commerce and FNCCI are on board to help with the administrative details in Nepal of the construction of the Briddhashram and its eventual management.

The project is budgeted at $100,000 and donations have already been received from many parts of the world. It is anticipated that this tour will help raise the balance to a level which will help us get started without the fear of having to stop in-between for lack of funds.

Tickets are priced as follows:
$50 for VIP seats (front 3 rows)
$40 for VIP seats (next 5 rows)
$25 for all other seats
Children under 12 get a $10 discount on these prices
Kids 6 and under are not recommended.

Subsidized validated parking will be available for our guests at a local parking garage for your convenience between 5PM until 11PM).

There will be a social hour before the performance. We are considering providing beverages and light snacks service.
