Tentative Program:

1. Library of Nepal - Book Exhibition and Collection – Ongoing
INLS has been collecting Nepali books for its “Library of Nepal” project. This library will have collection of books, magazines and other printed materials by Nepalis and focused on Nepalis. It has collected more than 600 Nepali books and magazines for the library to date. These books will be exhibited at the program. We encourage community members to bring Nepali books and donate to the library. The book donors as well as others who have provided outstanding service in keeping Nepali identity alive and vibrant in the community will be recognized during the Book Release and Recognition Ceremony.

2. Nepali Ghazal Writing Workshop with Dr. Deepak Khadka at 2:00 PM
In this workshop, last year’s “Haribhakta Katuwal Geeti Kavita INLS Best Book Award” wining Ghazal collection book, “Salbalauda Oothaharu “ written by Mr. V.B. Singh (http://www.inls.org/awards/bestbook/2003win.htm) will be reviewed. Participants will interact with DC based renowned Ghazalkar, Dr. Deepak Khadka to write at least one Ghazal during the workshop. Participants are required to register for the workshop by sending an email to info@inls.org. The registration will be closed once 15 people are signed up.

3. Book Release and Recognition Ceremony at 5:00 PM
Mr. Rudra Nepal, Deputy Chief of Mission, Royal Nepal Embassy, Washington DC, will be opening following books published by INLS and Himshikhar Publications. These books will be briefly reviewed and critiqued by invited Nepali literary critics as listed below:

1. "Samjhanaka Annubhutiharu" – A story collection by Kamala Sarup
(Review by: Dr. Hari Bhattarai, Nepali literary critic)

2. “Goodbye America” – A travelogue by Govinda Giri Prerana
(Review by: Mr. Hom Nath Subedi, Chair, Board of Trustees, INLS)

3. “Manchhe Dunga Ra Ishor “ – A poetry collection by Madhu Sharma
(Review by: Mr. Govinda Giri Prerana, Life Member, INLS)

4. “Prem Parag” - A poetry collection by Ramesh Satyal
(Review by: Mr. Nagendra Neupane, President, INLS North Carolina Chapter)

5. “Chati Vitra Desh Dhukhada“- A poetry collection by Hemnath Ghimire
(Review by: Mr. Kumar Basnet, President, INLS Japan Chapter)

Book published by Himshikhar Publications, Nepal:

6. “Art and Ideas on Binod Moktan” by Binod Moktan
(Review by: TBD)

There will be a poetry recitation session after the book release and recognition ceremony.

If you would like to present a paper or share your expertise about writing travelogue, story or poem at the program, please send us an abstract of paper/presentation at info@inls.org.

INLS DC Nepali Education Committee (DCNEP: http://www.inls.org/nepali/ ) will also take registration for Spring 2004 semester classes offered by School of Languages and Cultures of Nepal. Total of 19 students have graduated on February 14th,, 2004 from two Nepali language classes and one Nepali dance class offered during Fall 2003 semester. Detail Schedule of classes for Spring 2004 will be announced at a later date.
