Jwojalapa! Namaste! NOA's 12th Annual Convention and General Meeting is less than a week away! We hope you’ve marked your calendar to join NOA this Saturday, May 25, 2013.
Following this year’s theme "Newars in Action Around the World," we'll be sharing updates about NOA activities here in the US, and we are privileged to have from Kathmandu, Nepal Invited Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker Professor Manik Lal Shrestha, the 81-year-old legend of Newah culture, heritage, and language. Also from Kathmandu, Nepal, we have Newah scholar, writer, and human rights activist the Honorable Dr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar. Our other exciting speakers include Dr. Bal Gopal Shrestha from Leiden, Netherlands representing the World Newah Organization; Newah scholar and writer Ms. Sri Laxmi Shrestha from Leiden, Netherlands; poet Ms. Pratisara Manandhar from Kathmandu, Nepal; and collage artist Ms. Nancy Scheinman from Baltimore, MD, USA.
We will of course have a delicious traditional samay bajee and dinner, Nepal Mandala arts and crafts exhibition, and the ever-popularandvibrantculture show featuring our fine performers, including Yagya Man Shakya, Lochani Shrestha, Tara Shakya, Sanjeep Pradhan, Sarishma Amatya, Raman Shrestha, Shiva Joshi, and many more! And again this year we have a special children's program by NOALC students. Here’s a quick look at the conference details:
