Synopsis:
Anuradha Koirala, founder of Maiti
Nepal and CNN Hero needs no introduction. An English teacher turned social
worker, her campaign to save Nepali girls and women from sex trafficking, child
labor, domestic violence and other forms of oppression, has resonated around
the world. “Tell the world about my girls,” she says. Their stories break our heart.
One after another, the innocent girls as young as age seven are enticed by the
predators, smuggled across the border, sold to brothel owners in India and
entrapped for life before they know it. In the brothels, they are repeatedly
raped and beaten until their spirits are broken and they submit. Then they get
infected. Over one million girls and women worldwide meet similar fate every
year. Rescuing these girls from brothels is not for the faint hearted. Saving
these girls is not a just an act of charity, it is a high-risk fight against
organized crime. Anuradha has taken on this battle without any hesitation and
without regard for her own safety, and in doing so relentlessly, may be
shifting the balance of power in this battle of Goliath versus powerless women.
Please join us this Sunday and
express your solidarity with her struggles and honor her for her dedication.
Meet her in person, internalize her work and pledge to support her in anyway
you can and you know how.
