Free Primary Health Screening and Management for Bay Area Himalayan Immigrants on 10/24/2010

Agenda for 10/24/2010

v  8.30-9.00am: Free continental breakfast  for volunteers and speakers

 

v  9.00-10.00am:  Speakers from various Bay Area Himalayan Organizations will speak about their community efforts.

 

v  10.00-5.00 pm: Free primary screening from that will include screening and management

             for High blood pressure, Diabetes, and primary care health concerns.

 

v  11.00-1.00pm: Free Hepatitis B Screening.

 

v  12.00-2.00 pm : Diabetes Education

 

v  1.00-1.30 pm: Free Lunch and public health education through Nepali play targeting Diabetes, Hypertension and Obesity.

 

v  1.30 -1.45 pm: Nepali dance entertainment

 

v  2.00-3.00pm: Women's group lead by Nepali Speaking Clinical Psychologist Dr  Sadhana  Adhikari. 

 

v  3.00-3.30 pm: Self Breast Exam education

 

 

 Free Services Available

v  Patients that are identified with Diabetes, Hypertension and other chronic care illness will be managed by a Nepali speaking Primary Care Provider by establishing follow up care at Davis Street Primary Care Clinic. Tibetan Speaking patients will be managed in close collaboration with Bay Area Tibetan Health Committee.

 

v  Identified Diabetic patient will be referred to Diabetes Educator from Alameda County Medical Center on site.

 

v  Nepali Speaking Dentist will provide dental screening and education.

 

v  High risk patients will be screened for Hepatitis B in partnership with Hepatitis B Project. This will include free screening for labs through quest lab.  Free Hepatitis B immunization will be provided.

 

v  One on one consult with a health care providers that includes Tibetan,  Nepali speaking nurses, nurse practitioner and a Nepali speaking  physician.

 

v  Cardiologist will be available thorough  phone consult.

 

v  Podiatrist – a foot doctor will be available for foot related problems.

 

v  Mental Health Screening for Depression, Anxiety by Nepali speaking clinical Psychologist

 

v  Dental Screening and Education by a Nepali speaking Dentist

 

v  Free immunization that includes Flu shot, Tdap, and Pneumonia vaccine

 

v  Narika- a Bay Area South Asian Women's advocacy organization will be available for advocacy, support, information, and referrals within a culturally sensitive model.

 

v  Nepali and Tibetan interpreters will be available.

 

v  Free Bart Shuttles will be available from San Leandro Bart Station
