I got one couple of months back and It takes pretty decent pictures. If u r a beginner and looking for an easy to use Dslr, it is a very good choice however if u already know basics and had owned  Dslr camera previously I would recommend u to save some more and go for d90 or d7000

 Dude,
I don't know what you want to do, but I think if you are jumping up from point and shoot camera then D3000 is more than enough. I own a D3000 myself and completely satisfied, it doesn't have a video and it doesn't support brackating  but I think we seldom use video with a DSLR. I got my d3000 for 400 and I didn't wanted to pay extra 200 dollars just for the video. From what I learn until this point you need a good lens, body doesn't matter that much ( unless you are a PRO) .  for 2-3 hundred I would rather buy a lens than get a enhenced body. DSLR sab le ramro khichcha it is just how u use your camera.

my 2 cents.

Nikon D3000 with 3 fps and 11 AF points is a good camera. If you can extend EFL to 200mm or 300mm with extra lens then it becomes even better. But 10MP CCD is main concern giving 18MP CCDs are easily available in current DSLR. These image sensors may not be your concern if you are not thinking about big poster size pictures.

@ SNA : I use the default lens for normal use , but I also use a Prime lens 35 mm a lot, bear in mind that this lens doesn't have zoom and usualy used for potraits, This lens is too good for its price.
