A long time ago in a country far away....
Late one spring evening, I recollect doing a quick march up the hill to Kaandey and onwards. I looked up the slope at the British run project spread out on the hill to my right. Far and beyond, to the north and westwards through the gully at the pass, ethereal snow peaks drifted above the blue of the rocky slopes.. I hoped to get to the village a few clicks away to settle in for the night.
The rocky path I walked crested on a spiny ridge that curved north for a bit. I felt the cool wind first, that came racing up the valley below. Then I was dazzled by late afternoon sunlight glittering on the snow peaks ahead. To the east Machapucharey was turning red and gold into post card picture perfection. I lingered there as long as I could.. drinking in the serenity.. my spirits soared in the fresh air.. to mingle with the winds that swept through the high snows.. I miss thee.. O Mighty Mountains..
