-Are they taking soccer seriously?
-You lose and you move to next round, that's very Un-American. But hey we take it 'coz it's US. USA!! USA!! USA!!!
-Did US played today? Did we win? Oh we lost. Damn It! They still through! Oh really? I don't understand it but Hey Go USA!!
- We playing Germany next? No probably... Belgium. Ok I watch it as long as US play. USA!!! USA!! USA!!!
- I only like when they score goals. But the Mexican who yells goaaaaaaaaaaaaaal is very annoying though.
- He is not Mexican. Probably European. Oh they sound funny as well. USA ! USA! USA!
-Do you follow soccer? I don't get it. Its Ice-Hockey on grass.
-Soccer is for moms only. I played while I was kid.
-Do you know playing soccer is like running half mile? I guess...but its boring. Dozens of people trying to kick the same damn ball at the same time.
-You like soccer? Yes. Then you must be Mexican.
-Soccer is for sucker.
-Did you know its actually called football everywhere except here.
-I don't give a rat ass. The football we play is the real football.
-Thats the real men game. ( I believe it..200 kilo man can play it, thats real sport)
- Who do you support? Which one is your country? Well My country has never qualified. They have 32 best soccer teams.
-How many world cup have we won? None.
-Well then its not our sport. Its an alien's sport.

No doubt NFL is the king here in US. Soccer will not be major sporting event until US win world cup. They don't want soccer to overtake over football. That's why they don't even broadcast all the games in local channels. Its mostly in ESPN. NFL is exciting & soccer will be always immigrants' sports here. But that could change in 10- 20 yrs. I hope they get to host 2022 world cup. Boycott Qatar 2022.

I wonder why those extremist Right Wingers (modern term - Republican Party) don't realize that they are immigrants too. Why do they hate non-whites?
They never learn how to respect others. Always hate, hate, hate... That's in their blood. They always forget that they are grand children of illegal immigrants.

Dont get me wrong, i love soccer. The art of maneuvering the ball with your feet is a great sport on its own. But the rules need to be updated to match the level of civilazation we are at.

I really hate how much power the referees have. It makes them obnoxious. Soccer is not a fair game at all. Just like autocratic british rule, soccer is all about giving referees all the power. They flag players at will. They make wrong calls. They have big egos. And evetything they do is final. Years of effort of players get thrown in waste basket because of wrong calls.

There really needs to be a way of making sure that the effort and skills of whole teams are not undermined by one mistake of a human being.

We cannot keep practicing old customs that do not make sense. To err is human, but to allow unfair practice to leave a bitter aftertaste of a beautiful game is errr plain insane.

Soccer is a women's sports period. no pun intended. it's boring, no excitement at all, and players are wuss, they flop and dive and act like they are going to die and the next second they get up and are running. waiyaat sports with less action and classless actors. that game doesn't even need any skill, anyone can kick the ball around and even then these actors cant score much.. what a lousy game

Ok, first, let's all grow up. The days of "my dad is better than yours" is all gone, at least I hope to think so; unless there are too many juveniles lurking in the Sajha.

You can't compare one game to another, there's no "better" game, because "better" is subjective. How do you quantify better? More action? More impacts? More goals? You can only gauge games by popularity and soccer is the most popular sports in the world, period.

Football is good in its place. It's like a game of chess where each piece is alive and muscular. Soccer, well its like a religion, if you don't believe me- just watch John Oliver's piece on soccer. Like somebody said, "They say soccer is their life. I laugh at them. It's much more than that."

For those saying NFL has obese people, you probably don't follow the game. You see a couple of Offensive linemen and you think that's the typical size of NFL player. Take a look at WR or RBs, they are one of the leanest, quickest human being in the world, only next to running. Those who think soccer is a woman's game; well, you don't understand soccer. What's excitement for you? A barrage of goals? Well, I find it equally entertaining to watch a synchronized sequence of passes and dribbling. As for diving, how is that a woman thing? Like it or not, it's part of the strategy. Michael Jordan became the best NBA player ever not just because of his physical moves but also his psychological maneuvers. Diving, you can compare that to acting. I hate diving, I think soccer should do something to curb this practice, but I won't say it makes the game a woman's sport. These are not the players who are in the field with helmet despite the fact that they don't aren't driving any motor bikes. With your definition, if soccer is for women, chess would be for 2 years old.

I like soccer and football both. Soccer a tad better because I followed it since I was a kid and I still play this game. But I won't take anything away from football either.

And what about 5-day Test cricket? A bowler bowling at 88 miles/hr 120-200 times a day, a batsman facing such a bowler and keeping his concentration for hours... Now that it tough.

Found a lot of response on this thread about American Football vs Soccer. Football is great to watch and soccer is great to play. I used to watch Italian series broadcasted by Nepal TV back in 90s and was a huge fan of it. I lost all of soccer thing when I came to America and got hooked with NFL, NBA, MLB and little NHL. Seriously I find NFL more exciting than soccer for the facts that it has lot of individual stats and it is not monotonous like soccer. The worst things about soccer are referee blowing calls , diving, few substitutes and lack of implementation of more sophisticated technology to improve the fairness of the game. Team prepare for 4 years to play for world cup and one decision cost the match and the whole tournament. I felt bad for team Mexico this year. But I enjoy world cup more than anything else. It's jut not about football (soccer) but its about the celebration of life, people, color, culture and the sport itself. The only thing I wanted to say on the above thread is that some people don't want to like soccer. It's like my god is better than yours analogy. Many Americans are egocentric and they don't want to see soccer taking over football. They feel insecure about their sports when soccer fever runs high in this country. But this year soccer has been more popular than before, It has higher ratings than world series and NBA final this year. The popularity of soccer will depend even more on how far US team can go into this world cup. I hope they reach semi-final. Its better for soccer. Also hope that US get to host world cup sooner than later. Its unlikely keeping in mind that they might have to face Argentina in quarter final. But hey...who thought Algeria would give hard time to Germany today. So Believe! Go team USA!!!

Soccer will not become popular in US because there is not enough beer commercials. Not enough breaks to go to fridge. So  viewers like to see overweight people playing football or rather eggball.

soccer is a women's sports. World cup for me is a TV show that only happens every 4 years and after that I don't even care. it's like olympics but slightly more interesting version.
