Number of Nepali students to go USA for higher studies decreased 7%':Report

REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, Nov 11: Number of students from Nepal to go United States for pursuing higher studies has decreased by 7.3 to 8,920 in the fiscal year 2012/13, making it the 14th leading place of origin.

According to a report ´ Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange´ published on Monday by the US-based Institute of International Education, a total of 257 American students studied in Nepal in 2011/12, which is 22.4 percent more than the previous year.

"Nepali students who would like to pursue higher education in the U.S. may use the services offered by the United States Education Foundation-Nepal’s (USEF) Education USA Advising Center.," reads a press statement issued by the US embassy in Kathmandu on Monday evening.

USEF-Nepal is the only approved center for providing accurate information on studying in the United States, the embassy says in the statement.

I wonder if other countries (UK, AUS, CANADA) are seeing similar trends as well. Probably the youth transfer to other countries has peaked.

It's not coz they're unwilling, it's the stricter law preventing their entries. This topic sounded like Nepalese students are unwilling to go and study in the US while the reality is opposite.

Doubt it, bittertruth. Exchange rate is the root cause, I'm sure.

May be,unlike in the past,Nepali students aspiring for aboard studies these days have many options to choose from, for their desired destination.Australia,UK,Norway,Japan,Germany,Netherland,Ireland and even India have open doors to welcome nepali students whole heartedly. The pay rate and the strength of Austrlian doller,Euro,Yen and  like have also lured students, promising a good life.It was US and US and US in the past while these days the atmosphere has definetely changed and students are willing to move anyplace even Korea,Thailand and Malaysia for their study,if its profitable for their academic carrer and their life.
