Parties, Maoists reach 12-point agreement

KOL Report

KATHMANDU, Nov 22 - The seven-party alliance and Maoists have reached a consensus "to restore democracy in the country."
A meeting of the seven-party alliance held in the capital Tuesday said that they reached a 12-point agreement with the Maoists.

Meanwhile, issuing a statement this evening, Maoist Chairman Prachanda said that they have reached a 12-point agreement with the mainstream political parties during various phases of talks.

The meeting of the parties held at the residence of Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala this morning was attended by CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, acting president of the Nepali Congress-Democratic, Gopal Man Shrestha, and Janamorcha Nepal's president Amik Serchan, vice-president of Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandidevi), Bharat Bimal Yadav. Nepal Majdoor Kishan Party's Narayan Man Bijukchhe was not present in the meeting as he was out of the capital.

Shirish ji,
I thought I answered your question but may be I did not. In my view, there is a difference between personal corruption and political corruption.

Personal corruption is when politicians pocket money for doing some favor, say issuing telecom licenses. It is unorganized. Personal corruption is easier to understand and to deal with. The indictment of Wagle was the case in point.

Political corruption is when there is a quid pro quo between interest groups and political parties i.e. political parties promise to advance agendas of one particular interest group at the expense of country. It is organized. Political corruption is difficult to understand and to deal with. Moreover, all political parties in a multiparty system benefit from it and want to perpetuate it. You can say, ?No parties can survive without being corrupt in Nepal?. But Nepal is not alone, as you probably know, this is a major problem in the US.

And yes, please elaborate your comments!

Worries ahead:
Weapons in bountiful:- any splinter revolutionary groups mushrooming out.
Same old story:- Elites misrule and negletion of masses.
Haunting Ghosts: Is the achievement of a decade struggle worthy of those great lives lost.
Indian influence: Maoists sidelined, what about regional struggle, after all with Kashmir problem almost reaching conclusion, India needs place to use its huge investment in defence.
Back to square 1: Now king as contitutional (will he agree that is different question), we had that situation, since 1990's, then what next?
Politics: Bad politics again, will the alliance remember the joint struggle, will they not resort to violence and flexing muscle while dividing the populace into political lines. Broken relationships and harmony in families and communities, will the political parties understand that ideologies are only ideologies, relationship and understanding, accomodation of different views is what finally counts.
Achievments of the Maoist struggle: Population woken up from the slump sleep, migration and hardships will bring out the intent to work. Mountains eco-systems reviving from the human actvities pressure, population decreased not with those gone, but decline in numbers that are to come, we will see the impact of that in future. Social ills abolished to certain extents, but important of all is the raising awareness and boldness to seek right to desent. People aware that, every action brings its reaction, sonner or later.
Royal take over: Right answer to the unworthy leaders. Strong rules and regulations including curbs that were being misused in name of mobocracy. Hope better wisdom prevails and some regulations with far reaching impact are ordinated so that future democratic governments will not have trouble.Tecahers and mispolitics, students and mispolitics, unhealthy protests, corruptions all need strong hand control, which the weak kneed politicians could not have made it, after all the genie was let free by them, and their capabilities to put back in the bottle is quite evident.
