I had promised that I was going to start my own thread regarding stock investments and the markets. So many things have happened since last time I was here and I really do not feel like sharing my knowledge. But a promise is a promise and there have been few people that have emailed me and supported me.

This thread will deal with investing in the stock markets. I will not discuss individual stocks but discuss ETFs like SPY, DIA, IWM and QQQQ. The one good thing about trading ETFs compared to individual stocks is the the ETFs provide instant diversification among similar companies within the same sector.

I will post more as we go along, regarding entry-price, profit-target and stop-losses. I do not think that any ETF is good or bad. It is good only if I'm making money and bad if I'm losig money.

If you have not been in the market so far, please read this as an information piece only rather than my recommendations. There is risk involved and you should know how much risk to take on any position.

Any suggestations, comments and criticisms are welcome as long as it is market related. If this thread gets out of hand and we start discussing off-topics, I'll stop posting.

Have a happy new year!!!! May 2007 bring you and your family lots of joys and riches.

Latoboy, I'm looking at the chart of WSCI and a close below 11.85 will be a good place to place the stop. Their revenue and earnings are growing pretty well and are in a good industry. I think this can go to 30-40 in the near future.

thanks for the info on WSCI mr eminitrader...

i have a question regarding the cyclical behaviour of the markets...   "May Selloffs"
lot of times during the month of May, June, July stock prices go down.

do you think this year would be the same ?
the only reason i think not is because most of the stocks (except some commodity related) are trading at a discount.  i have just recently bought stocks in Financials, Tech, Telecom and in Visa.

regarding WSCI

last friday, i was busy at work, so i didnt do any research.. just pure speculation... thats why i got nervous when i saw the price down quite a bit friday.

anyway just right now i was doing some research ,j ust like you say,  i see that it is quite a solid stock. the fundamentals, sales growth, earnings is all excellent... Cash Flow is so so.. maybe okay but not bad at all.. ...

overall i have good feeling too about this one.

The bottom line is rate of return. What was your return for last year (2007) or any previous years if you have them.

I did 10% for year 2007

The idea is to see who is bringing home good returns and what they did to achieve that. As you can see I did just ok for my first year of investing and need to listen to the people who are doing better returns.

wow WSCI has shot up like a rocket... Volume level is also very high today.

im very lucky with this pick.
the previous week, u had recommended WSCI and XIN,
but im really glad i didnt buy XIN, otherwise i would be crying right now.  i dont know abt its long term prospectives, but as of now, down sharply.

However WSCI making me very happy today :)

Latoboy, Regarding the exit that depends on whether you put the trade as a short-term or a long-term trade. This could retract back to $12.50-$13 before it starts going up again.

I sold some this morning and plan on holding half for a long gain, but  my entry was below $10.50.

I think we are getting closer before the next sell-off starts. I thought 1420-1440 but it seems that this might be it. No need to panice right now but sart tightening your stops. I bought some SPY 135 puts today.

Man WSCI is launching like a rocket. Kind of regret selling some. Here is another rocket PDO. It showed up on my scan few days ago but wait till it crosses above 10 and let it pull back to below 10 and the when it starts moving up again buy.

Latoboy, it is always hard to tell if or when a stock will pullback. Therefore, I sell half and keep the other half. If you have another full-time job you should be looking at more longer term. So if you intend to buy 100 shares, buy 1/3rd at a time. PDO showed up on my scan few days ago but did not buy it then and look at what it has done. Once it crosses 10, I'll buy on a pullback and hold it.
