Guys I wish we could have a genuine positive and progressive discussion.

We all see us complaining about dire situation in Nepal. We complain about Nepal Bandhs, corrupt leaders and ever stagnant development of our country. We see people saying so easily..IF U R SO PISSED THEN WHY DON'T U URSELF GO TO NEPAL?.

This time it's just one issue..CORRUPTION.

Corruption is in our society, a well respected vice. In Nepal people gain respect by their bank balance and power, by the number of storeys they have added to their building, no one cares how the money has been earned. One who is honest is doomed. One way to justify stealing is if someone else steals then why not me?? As the only thing u could ever learn from others is just that. In most of the cases ur relatives complain..TAPAIN THE KASTO KAAM NALAAGNE..FALANO LE YETI KAMAYO? do u even know how?

The politicians don't come from Mars. They are born and raised in our society. If our society is like this then how the hell can we expect them to be honest? how can we expect them to fight for issues and not their bank balance? Coz WE R LIKE THAT. AGREE OR NOT, that's the bitter truth. We encourage people to earn more by any means. Then for that we have to give concessions to bad  guys. A job in BHANSAAR is high profile job..coz lot of # 2 money u know? and then we expect the politicians TO BE HONEST? GIVE ME A BREAK. Even here in Saajha, I see threads like chornu ramro ki naramro? well it's easily debatable topic whether stealing is good just bcoz our boss steals. What a shame.

Why our country can't produce one honest leader? We  don't need to go too far. In India u have Bajpayee or Manmohan Singh or Abdul Kalaam Azaad. Now don't say I am Indian agent.GET A LIFE IF ANYONE THINKS SO.  I am talking about corruption here. None of those people can be called corrupt by even their strongest critics. Doesn't mean India doesn't have corrupt people but at least their culture has produced heroes like Gandhi.

Pakistam has Imran Khan. A world cup winning extremely charismatic captain who chose to stay in the country to fight for democracy. Noone can say he is corrupt.

Why can't we produce one leader , JUST ONE who is not corrupt. Reason is our society..it promotes and glorifies corruption.

CAN'T WE HAVE A SOCIETY WHERE WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN IT'S WRONG TO STEAL. IT'S WRONG TO EARN MONEY BY COMPROMISING ON YOUR ETHICS. IT'S WRONG TO BE DISHONEST. AND ITS UNPATRIOTIC AND UNHUMAN TO BE CORRUPT.

Let's have an honest discussion here. I pose this issue as a challenge to all u genuine patriotic Nepalese. RISE OVER THE PETTY ISSUES LIKE ...CAN U EVEN NAME IT ?..AND TALK ABOUT PRODUCING A BETTER SOCIETY SO THAT THEN WE CAN HAVE GOOD LEADERS WHO COULD FIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY'S BETTER FUTURE AND OUR AND OUR CHILDREN'S.

as few guys pulled the issue of TOEFL and GRE .I Studied whole of my education in NEPAL and I proudly annouce I am the highest GRE scorer here even in this University. I agree I have accent problem.

You crazy ppl what do u think,A nepali graduate must know english?? TOEFL,GRE ??? Why?? It looks either u have just joined University or very little knowledge of education and objectives of education. I agree education in NEpal is not good but u as a person ,without proof NEVER ,EVER try to compare my MOTHERLAND with YOUR fu**kers in any way. India may be good in some parts but as u compare UP. Bihar and some other states WE are far better. WE are worse becoz of india!!!Got it!!

I also have some indian frenz most of them they all have expansionist attitude and never appreciate us!!

Try to maintain NEpali Identity ,frenz!!

Truce you guys. Truce. Again all of u friends have a common goal and common frustration.

Let me give an example here. In Ramayan when Ravan is dying Lord Ram sends his brother Laxman to Ravan so that he can learn few things coz Lord Ram knew  Ravan ,though evil was very knowkedgeable and a lot of things can be learnt from him.

The point is why can't we take lessons from the good examples from the countries which has given us hard time. The point is not what India thinks of Nepal and how it treats Nepal. The point is how it has done for itself and how we can do for ourself. I am trying to put an example so that we can learn something.

Education and proficiency in education is never dependent upon mode of study. It can be any language Nepali, english and Sanskrit..we can still be equally qualified. The issue is to gain knowledge. Ability to speak and communicate in an alien language is an added benefit, which definitely does not hurt. The idea is to gain knowledge.

Talking of English, yes in todays world of globalization, it is important to know more than one language. The better u r in a language like English, which still is widely spoken over the world, can only help.

I am not advocating India or USA or anyone. But India gained independence in 1947, a year later Pakistan did. Nepal gained democracy roughly at that time. Look what happened today, India has evolved to a almost superpower despite having UP and Bihar. Pakistan is running a musical chair between dictators and democracy and so has Nepal. For all it's vices India has sustained democracy for more than 50 years. Lets sustain it for 100 years then.

WE HAVE A GOOD SYSTEM WITH BAD LEADERS. THE POSITIVE IS AT LEAST WE GOT DEMOCRACY WITHOUT AS MUCH VIOLENCE AS SAY AFRICAN COUNTRIES.

So now at least that we have a system..lets capitalize on that.

Lets not deviate from the original issue.

Unicornis makes a valid issue of Darzeeling based teachers. Hari dai's argument about education is very appaling. Well the objective of education should be to produce qualified people with moral responsibility and ethics who can in turn produce more of the same. Language is secondary, but if one is good in other languages, it is added qualification which should be always welcome.

Again, how do you think education system of Nepal can be improved ?? Hari dai, bishal 123, unicornis, jagate, desert rain and other friends..lets discuss on this topic. How can this goal be achieved.

Lets be positive. No matter how different we r ,we r all brothers and sisters, Nepal ama ko santan  u know.

Lets try to find a solution. This is not just mine or ur's problem. This is Nepal's problem. How can we??

Prabhat Bro......you hit the spot on the situation Of Nepal...Land of coruption. When ever someone talks about this topic I remember what some one I respect a lot told me.   He asked me why is America known as a the land of the free??? and why is it called the country of democracy and freedom and equality??? I explained him about the fredom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to express one self, the constitution  and how life goes on in America. The person laughed and told me....NO NEPAL IS A FREE COUNTRY........In Nepal you can get away with everything.....if you knew how to play the system and have money or you are well connected.........Look around the streets.......he told me any traffic rules....???? NO lane violations.....Look at the bus timings......any punctuality???? NO ...dont want to open your store today FINE who cares.........people do what they feel like In Nepal...you want things faster??? take out some money and see how things move fast for you ....from the potters , police court shops to the highest political level. Try breaking a simple law in America.........Cops will come knocking at your door. try speeding, try fighting, try bribing .....try to pinch a woman in the street LOL(like in asan ko hul or movies) try and you will go to prison............... BUT IN NEPAL...........all is good. If Nepalese want a bank statement ....they can make one immediately from nepal, if students here in Usa want anykind of certificate, license, statement, doctors certificate, marriage certificate, property statements, ANYTHING can be brought to america. MONEY is the key. Many people are filing for political asylum here in the US....some are legimate but some ......YOU KNOW all of a sudden they can produce a huge ransome and death note from the maoists to proove their case. or a major party affiliation LOL

.....OH FAKE SCHOOL RESULTS....10+2 results are made and used by many to go to school here LOL .....you know ONLY IN NEPAL.....ONLY IN NEPAL.............Nepalese Peole are so spoilt now that they need an excuse to do chhakka Jam, nepal bandh, Riots for a simple fact that a taxi driver was arrested by the police.......IN THE NAME OF UNION.....LOL most of these people dont even know what it means............NO FDA RULES, NO INSURANCE, HEALTH CARE, just FREE PEOPLE .....one shop sell soap for 5 Rs....another 6 Rs and another 7 RS no standard. Where else in the world can you get a SUPADI or An orange ball candy in Change in a store??? LOL.........Prabhat bro there are sooo many things that Nepal has that is unique to Nepal only and to comeout of it is going to take  a lot of STRICT RULES LAWS AND discipline  BUT WAIT people are going to call it DICTATORSHIP..any strict law and order from any government will be the scapegoat for another political party to point finger and call it tyranical rule, humanright violation and dictatorship and HENCE BEGINS ANOTHER revolution and Insatbility......THE NEVER ENDING CYCLE............how can we solve this problem....LETS TRY TO BRIBE EVERY CITIZEN OF NEPAL WITH LOTS OF MONEY TO BEHAVE...LOL......might work.

MadDogg Bro,

With all these dire circumstances and impossible situations in Nepal, with all this FREE COUNTRY as you aptly put together, is there any hope that we can do something to change the country ??

If there is any way out, what do u think it is ? If not should we let Nepal be as it is and mind our own life ?

This is the reason I want to have a broad discussion on this issue rather than focussing on petty matters. Coz I think no matter where I am Nepal is in my heart. But I don't trust the current system and politicians, but what about others ? what about our society ? WELL THE BOTTOM LINE IS IS THERE A WAY OUT? WHAT IS IT? WHAT CAN WE DO ?

AGAIN I POSE THIS AS A CHALLENGE to all our friends living specially in USA and other foreign countries to figure out what is the LEAST we can do.?

Solve Poverty.............leave the country as it is BUT SLOVE POVERTY, EDUCATION (FREE QUATLIY, HEALTH CARE AND LAW)...........Nepal is a country with majority of  unprivillaged people that can be easily motivated in the wrong direction by any politically party using huge taxmoney , aid , and looted money.....which is temporary beneficial.......................ITS BETTER TO TEACH ONE HOW TO CATCH A FISH WHEN HE IS HUNGRY THAN TO GIVE HIM ONE FISH FOR THE DAY. Bro satisfy the poor and unprivillage and things will fall in place ......I think that WE all should  form a non profit INT. group...STRONG AND NOT INTIMIDATED BY THE NEPAL GOVRENMENT.....and   ESPECIALLY OF INDIAN POLITICS..and just stay out of the high corruption and focus our efforts in  providing basic needs of the poor.......and needy.................teaching them skills and providing them with micro loans to develope their trade, take Nepals small business and create a global market.....like a fair trade market base......BUT bro NEPAL needs to stabilize a lot more.......other wise all our effort will die. NEPAL has recieved so much AID money in donation from all over the world that if it was used properly........All Nepalese would have prospered BUT self improvement is the goal all our leaders and AID money dissappears....SO WE ALL HAVE TO BE THERE AND DEDICATED.....it will be tough but necessary, hard but essential.  THE question is WHERE AND HOW DO WE START???????

well I am totally with u on that non profit establishment.  We need to find some like minded people. Whenever we can start I will contribute in whatever way I can . Currently I am a student but once and when I have a job I can contribute more than what I can contribute now.

Probably next thread should be about this non profit organization issue. Let's see how many people come aboard.

Great idea. You have my full support on that.

Chill out people Nepal is not as bad as it sounds... I lived in US almost all my life and now I am in Nepal. I used to think similarly before I moved here but things are different now.. I am sure there is corruption but it isn't as bad. I had to visit several government offices for different personal reasons and I could not believe how fast and efficient the system has become as compared to US. In US to get a citizenship certificate, a passport or social security card takes weeks but in Nepal similar official documents can be obtained the same day if you have supporting documents. I had to take my nephew(s) to get new citizenship certificates and it was achieved within few hours (2 1/2 hours to be exact). Similarly I had to get "lal-purja" for my house and all I needed was my ID, and I got it the same day!!
I am neither well connected nor had to bribe anyone for any of the documents I needed from  government offices.
I do agree that there are problems like pollution, KMNP (nagar palika) not cleaning streets as often, narrow streets etc  but corruption is not as bad as I originally thought.
Ofcourse anyone will take money  if you give them but you don't have to. That's the point. If there is a problem you should speak directly with the chief of the organization and he will direct you to the right direction. That is my expereince.
The general moral of people is good. I have seen people leave their cell phones and wallets outside the restroom in the gym and have not seen anyone complain!!
Nepal is changing like everywhere else and lets all work together in building Nepal as much as we can!!

oei hari bro,

u don't have to sound nasty. gali garna ta hamilai pani auncha ta hau. another problem with the handfuls who got good GRE scores. just because u got the highest score doesn't mean Nepal's education system is good. the topic is about mass education not about few bookworms. tell me how long did u practice maths and memorized vocabs? one yr or two year or four years.

if u wanna discuss then be open minded and accept the facts. and the facts are -

1. It is a fact Nepal ranks 13th in the poor nation's list.

2. It is a fact Nepal's unemployment rate is 42%. since u got the higest score, may be the rate will go down to less than US.

3. It is a fact that Nepal's systems are corroded beyond control.

4. It is a fact that Old Schools still run the counrty.

5. I am no fan of Indians but it is a fact that the backbone of US IT industry are the Indians. I take them as a healthy competition. Can u??

6. It is a fact India is crippled with proverty but unlike Nepal it is huge, has waterways, railway systems and is still advanced than Nepal = it is fact. We depend on them for our very livelihood unless hari bro will supply us with rasan pani with good scores.

7. I still say, our every system is corrupted including education, and until and unless we rinse them, Nepal will be far behind every nation including Ehthiopia.

BTW, I have graduated with a degree and is going to get another and unlike u i have done a bit to support nepal.

so act decent as ur decent scores or quit flaming.

oei hari bro,

i forgot to mention one thing.

u are in english speaking nation and u boast about gre scores. remember i gave an example of chinese folks who are the only race who achieves near perfect gre scores but this is purely from ghokai like we do when the exam nears.

and for ur info, english is becoming first language of the world after mandarin chinese.

education's objectives = teach me, enlighten me, plueeeeesee!!

On one side of the coin, we can say that 'too many cooks spoil the soup'. And on the other side of the coin, we must learn to see the 'unity in diversity'. There's so many things simultaneously going on in Nepal that one does not know where to start, leave alone how to start. I'm sure there are many people out there, Nepali or otherwise who have been doing something or other, in one way or another, to correct the situation in this beautiful country.

Let's forget the idea of praying for a Super Hero to save the nation. The only way to save Nepal is to have thousands of Super Heroes. In the ancient days of Krishna, Rama and Ravana and others, the battle for good over evil was one against one. But in today's Kali Yug, there are thousands of people wearing the cloak of Ravana, penetrating the blood veins of innocent people. So, praying to the Gods for one mighty Super Hero is like looking for a needle in the haystack.

Today's Super Heroes are made from ordinary clay. People like you... and you... and you. If we can seriously come together, work together and stay together, miracles will happen. Changes in education, health, economics, technology, spirituality, engineering etc etc will all be made possible if we put our individual resources together.

The only way to build a huge mansion with many rooms, is to build it brick by brick. And so, if all of us in Sajha think that we can do something, however insignificant it may be, I strongly vote that we should start doing it. For a start, let's list down our names and what we are good at, however simple the task may be. From there, we can divide the group into different categories that can look into the various aspects like mentioned above...education, health etc. Once the groups have been identified, then we can start to allocate tasks like identifying areas in Nepal that need immediate help.

Remember, once you make up your mind to do something, you can do it. One step at a time....

"Dhoti ko Dhoti Sughne"??????? What is this?

IS THERE ANY LIMIT TO BEING PATHETIC?

Since when worrying about our country became PRO- INDIAN?

Since when learning fron others, even enemies, became PRO-INDIAN??

Since when the will and dedication to commit for one's country became PRO-INDIAN???

Bhimsen Boka, Think before u say things like that. You have no right to insult others by writing thoughtless words like that. Here the issue is what can we do for Nepal. To do that we have to see how other's improved themself? How other countries became economic superpower ??

The reason India, China are coming up because they are booming to be superpower in today's world. One is a democratic country other is not. There is nothing like being democratic country. We r already one.Let's now look at JAPAN. They were nuked, but where are they now. Look where is S Korea and where is N Korea? U wanna be S Korea who took on the model of Japan or u wanna be N Korea, Cuba, and present day Zimbabwe when raising these issues becomes DHOTI SUGHNE and PRO- Indian???The only reason Mugabe holds on to power is by blaming west while his country has inflation of 4 million %. The only reason why Kim Jung Il holds to power by injecting a brand of nationality which u raise like being Pro- Indian. Please think before u even say those things. Words r more powerful than bullet.

PATHETIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heart beat bro,

I never believed in superpowers. I was only talking about why can't our society produce people like that. WHEN I SEE IDEAS LIKE THIS COMING FROM YOU I'M SERIOUSLY PROUD OF YOU AND  very hopeful.

So In the list of people who wanna initiate the start. I AM IN. We will form a group, which will be totally not influenced by any petty politics and corruption. Not like those INGOs in Nepal who show more than they do.

Let's start a fund. Let's begin charity. Let's start a thread and at the same time have e-mail contact with other friends so that we can have the organization. MAdDogg already raised this issue.

The point is let's live our life well. No question. Play guitar, watch shows, have fun, do everything u wish..but also contribute something, a genuine contribution that we r gonna do now THAT WILL MAKE US AND OUR FAMILY PROUD of us as we were the ones who  started the PROCESS in small way that we could. But I m sure this will be contagious. This will spread around and other groups will be formed..and THIS IS MY DREAM I ALWAYS HAD.

Bhimsen Boka, Abraham Lincoln included all his Fierce Opponents in his cabinet u know..coz he realized though they were opponents,  they had great ideas to serve the United States. So don't call me or anyone here pro-indian. It does not hurt to learn from others, even if thet r not ur friends. I INVITE YOU TO THE PROCESS. IF U LOVE NEPAL, WHY DON'T U COME UP WITH AN IDEA?? If u can't, do us a favour, STOP INSULTING.

We friends here, diverse we may be, we might have different views and ideas, but again I say our goal is same. We all desperately want to do something for Nepal. So if one has some arguments with other on small issues, it's toatally okay and normal. WE R ALL NEPALSE AND A FAMILY u know, these things happen.

I AM WITH U HEARTBEAT. Do you want me to start a thread on this?? let me know.

MadDOGG, BISHAL 123, HEARTBEAT, DESERT NATION, RAHULVAI, UNICORNIS, BESHA,HARIDAI, VARIYAA AND OTHERS please respond.

PS. Shiv I am not sayin g Nepal is not the worst. But get the facts and analyze where Nepal is, what it can become, and what can we do.

mr.boka,

u never answered my questions or u didn't know how to answer them? not suprised though!

now u are insinuating me that i am pro-indian. i am one of those people who takes lesson from sucess and failures of other people. this is a matter of a country so Nepal should learn from its two giant neighbors. they had their failures but now they are on the road to success. where are we? still on the same spot. these giants have everyhing to be affluent such as land mass, rialways, seaports, manpower, military power etc but what do we have?? tell me...

first, we are landlocked, no railways, no land mass and above all= no skilled manpower. oh! i forgot we have a highest scorer of gre, hari bro? maybe that will make a difference...

BUT we can use what we have to least be 75% independent from India.

prabhat and everybody else = i am a budding conservationist with a strong science background and have a solid knowledge of current hottest tools such as GIS and remote sensing.

what do u have? time to lay cards on the table.

Unicornis bro,

It's great to know about ur expertise. I wonder if we can have a common platform where we all can stand and discuss as how to go about solving these things.

At the moment, I am a merel civil engineer who is very ordinary and not anything special. But I have a vision where I can see talented and motivated people joining hands. Probably have a new web site. But this organization should not be tainted by politics. Now that's my worry.

prabhat bro,

another problem of nepal's eductaion system = educational institutions are used as a venue of politicial drama. looks like students are more interested in politics than in education. i have never been into politics. i think a country is never built running mouths, it will be built when u use ur hands. but in nepal, people utilize their time talking about politics. i have met nepalese who say Nepal HOHALLA LE chaleko desh ho! they could be right!

we start our day at a chia pasal and end at chia pasal again. what do we do - just talk! i am not saying there are not hard working people, absolutely there are but not enough.

so u are a civil eng. so is my brother. that's a good subject, we need decent eng. to built decent roads and streets.

and u belong to madhesi community=don't get me wrong and i do support their movement but i do not like thier idea of autonomous region or one madhes. nepal is samller than california and they intend to split this small nation. that is wrong. i belong to indegenous tribe and i harbor similar feeling like u about the past govt. that they did not give appropriate representation for my caste. but i don't blame the govt. 100%. my caste seldom goes to school and i did cause i believe strongly in education and plan to make a huge difference in my community and nepal.

enjoy

Hey Guys!! Unicornis  and all !! I never meant to teach u and It is not my duty,But as u have compared Nepal and said"" Nepali Graduates are struggling for English Specially TOEFL"" My hand waving answer for this is....Think of nEpal To make a better nepal ,why do a nepali graduate need english or toeffl????? HUM ,objective od education in any country is not to produce lahures or sercvants for foreign countries." it clearly assumes to produce a citizen that will stay there and use his knowledge'' this is my layman explanation to you!! got it !! i donot care which language is first or second but I love nepali and that's all!!
for ur trivial information I came

.....I came immediately after my graduation.Mr. Unicornis never underestimate any NEpali .It Clearly proves u are not a Nepali of course not though you  may have citizen or something more!! I donot care if u back for indians or not ,I appreciate them as well ,I admit we have problems and it is not becoz nepali fails TOEFL.Japanese donot need to give TOEFL test as they have everything and they are too poor in english Who cares!!!It can be ok and makes no differnce even whole population donot understand english ,but should at least think good of their nation rather than praising  others.....
I admit there is coruuption, bad education system but the way you expressed drove me crazy!!!  take it easy, even grown and learnt in that poor education system here are a lot of nepali professors in USA ,eventhough it is a smallest and poorest country in the world.....It is my nepal........no one has right to compare it wrong way!! if u r not a nepali never try to humiliate me any way,,,, it drives me crazy....

haria bro,

the way u express ur feeling indicates u have a long way to go. now u are comparing Japan with Nepal. somebody wrote somewhere here that Japan got nuked and still is one of the affluent nation of the world = HOW and WHY???

and don't u even get it-i have clearly said i belong to indigenous tribe of Nepal that means I am full blooded nepali and don't u still not get it = you are completely ignoring the general populace and just taking few handfuls to support ur statement. that is wrong.... again, try to embrace the facts not ur feelings only.

u call urself a patriotic then answer the following questions -

1. Why is Nepal poor?

2. What are the strength and weakness of Nepal?

3. Since u r very patriotic, what have u done for Nepal so far?

A patriotic should know ins and outs of his/her country. i dare u to ask me any questions about Nepal except for crappy politics.
