Just wanted to start a thread where we can just talk about movies, old and new, so that we know which movie to trash, which movie to see in a theater or wait till DVD or cable time.

I will start with my crappy review on the last movie I watched. Comments are welcome by anyone who has watched or want to watch this movie.

10,000 BC
All I can say about this movie is that it is strictly okay!! The story drags a lot and there are goofs in a lot of sequences. Also, the movie does not have breathtaking action nor does it have good acting. However though, what saves this movie from bring utter crap is a cheesy storyline which keeps you pretty interested and hooked on to your seats. The cinematography of the landscapes and the final pyramid scenes are awe inspiring. The special effects are extravagantly well done. Camilla Belle, who previously played the tomboyish role in the movie Chumscubber looks like a PREHISTORIC GODDESS this time around but does not have much acting to do. The show stealer is Steven Strait who played the role of the protagonist D'leh and did full justice to what was required of him and the screen time he enjoyed. Overall, an Okay movie but below par for the prehistoric genre.

gyanguru, this is 2008...I remember watching "Enemy of the State" back in 1999 or so.  You should've posted a review before I watched it...Damn, where were you then!!

Iron-Man was awesome but they should'nt have tampered with the original comic events (Vietnam has now become Afghanistan, the moustache, iron-man a billionaire?...Made me despise the director of I am Legend for the smae damn reason).  Downey Jr. has done justice to the role and I'm looking forward to the sequel.  Man, Having grown up with the DC and Marvel comic ation-heroes, any movies witht hem starring in it are a sure shot block-buster IMO...Except for "The Incredible Hulk" released a few years ago.  BTW, this Summer's biggest blockbuster is the New Incredible Hulk with Ed Norton.  Thats gonna be the bomb!!

Eastern Promises- watched it few days ago, thought it was really good, 9/10. Viggo Mortensen was great, didn't realize half way through the movie that he played the arragon characther in LOTR. Movie is abt russian mafia in London, it is a gangster movie with more prespective and depth. Some lot of ppl thought the ending was not good, or abrupt, i thought it was prefect.

And Samsara, the biggest blockbuster for this summer is going to be "the dark knight". The only other movie that has chance against it is Indiana jones.

p.s -The Joker: "This city deserves a better class of criminal and I'm gonna give it to them. You'll see. I'll show you."

This summer Kung Fu Panda (starring Jackie Chan, Angelina Jolie and Lucy Liu) might kick ass and do decent business too.

If you get a chance, copy these lists and I'll guarantee you that you won't be disappointed, except for reading the subtitles. These are World class movies from Mexican Directors:

Alejandro González Iñárritu
Babel -you know the name, got many oscars.
21 grams -touches you heart deep down inside
Nine Lives -it's not a cat story. Human drama to the max.
Amores perros (Love's a Bitch in English) - This will make look "Pulp Fiction" like a child story. Top notch story, brilliant directorial debut. If nothing else, watch this, it's my all time favorite.

Alfonso Cuarón
Y tu mamá también (And Your Mother Too in English) -many of you might have seen it. It's been there for a while
Children of Men -I really didn't like it that much. Don't watch it.

Guillermo del Toro
Laberinto del fauno, El (Pan's Labyrinth in English) -Cool effects but to understand it better, biblical (Christian beliefs) knowledge will be very helpful.
Cronos (Chronos in English) -Bone chilling story told simply with words.
El espinazo del diablo (The Devil's Backbone in English) - It's little bit scary but you'll enjoy it since it reflects our Nepali type of scary movies like "Kichkandi" type of stuff.
He also did "Blade" and "Hell Boy"  series which I never cared since they're too commercial.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo(actually Spain)
Intacto - The word "luck" what does that mean? If you knew you're the luckest man alive, would you jump off an airplane knowing that you'll survive no matter what? Would you put a bullet in your head so confident of your luck? Crazy question? See it to believe it. One of my favorite too.
"The film depicts an underground trade in luck; where fortune flows from those who have less to those who have more. Rooted in magical realism, the premise purports that luck can be amassed and transferred as any other commodity"

The other movie that I watched was Arranged, which shows the relationships between a Jewish girl and a Muslim girl born and brought up in US, and its also a very nice movie...

3) Hancock: CRAP (Will Smith, c'mon man! you can do it better!)
4) Sarkar Raj: CRAP (AB - wannabe Marlon Brando, AB Jr. - Wannabe Al Pacino, Aishwarya Bachchan - Wannabe Catwoman)
5) The Incredible Hulk: Nothing new or interesting...(Norton's wasted, Liv Tyler is a douchebag)
6) Love Guru: Didn't ever bother to watch after reading the review.

Here's some of the movies that I watched recently and my ratings.

KungFu Panda: (3.5/5). It is O.K type of movie. Jack Black as a Kungfu Panda does an excellent acting and other than that, it is just a good pass time cartoonistic movie.

The Eye: (3.5/5). You know what happened to me while watching this movie. Not really a good movie but keeps you seated in a chair and make you watch until the end.

The Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal skull: (3/5). I really didn't like it as I was never big fan of Indiana Jones type of movie. I watched with my ex-girlfriend and that's what woke me up otherwise it would have easily made me sleep though I gotta give credit to Harrison Ford who does a superb performance though being an old fella. Of course the scenes are awesome. Oh yeah, I like that scene where Dr Henry grabs the snake as a rope to get outta the puddle.

Get Smart: (2/5).  I felt it was worthless to spend money watching this movie. Though some of the scenes are funny, Overall this movie is a piece of sh$$t. I do not recommend anyone to watch this movie.

Love Story 2050: (1/5). Just like the quality of Nepalese movie fell, the quality of Indian movies are degrading at a faster pace. This movie's got a weird plot and I only watched half of the movie and after that, I couldn't take it. Bullsh$t movie and I wouldn't recommend even my enemy to watch this movie. I would rate RACE way better than this one.

Movies that I might see this week:

Hancock, Wanted, Babel(as you sajahites liked it), Jigar(My all time favorite movie with Ajay Devgan and reminds me of my childhood).

Of course, let's hear more movie reviews and ratings by sajhaites.

Peace

Sirus

Anyone up for The Dark Knight releasing in the theaters today?

Loote! I am wondering if you have watched "40 year old Virgin" yet. If you have not may be it's a good time to rent it if you don't find any other movie interesting for the time being.

Happy Friday to you all!

My attempt to review this year's Summer Winner!

Why So Serious?

With the immense hype surrounding the film primarily due to the pre-mature death of Heath Ledger (playing Joker), the (critical) success of Batman: The Beginning and also the extravagant amount of money spent on effective marketing, the movie The Dark Knight had become one of the most anticipated movies ever to hit the big screen. The last movie to garner such hoopla before its release was SpiderMan -3 and that movie proved to be a disappointment. With higher expectations, I went to watch the Dark Knight and was still totally bowled over by the sheer magnificence of this Chris Nolan Flick.

First Day First Show, the Midnight show it was. Due to a technical glitch in the AMC theatres that we went to, the movie did not commence until about 15 minutes past the scheduled start. And when it finally did, there was a huge roar from an obvious houseful crowd that showed up.

This is not your typical superhero movie loaded with a great deal of sci-fi action scenes packaged with an abnormal amount of cheesy comedic moments but rather an intense crime thriller that keeps you seat bound for its entire length of over two and a half hours. The film starts a fast pace with the Joker’s character introduced in the first couple of scenes itself and maintains that tempo throughout the movie. The basic story line is very simple as it goes like this – An initially successful effort by District Attorney Harvey Dent, Lieutenant Gordon and Batman to fight crime in Gotham city is thwarted by mastermind psychotic criminal The Joker, as he goes on spreading chaos in utter rampancy. Now it is up to the BatMan, who is himself accused by the mass and the media of being a crooked vigilante, to rescue Gotham city from The Joker’s menace.

The movie is Super-made in most aspects. Most of the primary characters are very well developed, specially the characters of Batman, the Joker and Harvey Dent. Forget Bruce Wayne, even Batman is seen to be not perfect and his inconsistent set of emotions are aptly visualized by the film-maker. I have not seen the old ones but Christian Bale certainly performs his role as the Batman light years better than predecessors George Clooney and Van Kilmer. However, they could have done better with his voice which although intentionally deep and hoarse made me laugh at times (which the filmmaker probably did not intend to).  Aaron Eckhart enacts his role as Harvey Dent exquisitely in the first half of the movie as he is tagged as the “Real hero of Gotham City”. He takes complete advantage of the huge screen time that he gets. He does not have much to offer as 2Face though. Gary Oldman, Maggie, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman all do justice to their respective characters as Lt. Gordon, Rachael, Alfred and Lucius.

Well, I could go on and on about other marvelous things in the movie like great action, special effects, immaculate dialogues and the breath-taking chase scene but the real show stealer is the character of Joker. Heath Ledger’s enacting the Joker is probably and arguably one of most (if not THE most) splendid performance in big Screen. He deserves an Oscar for this role and does more than just justice to a role that the Nolan’s might have only envisioned. Heath Ledger’s untimely death might have (probably is) been the prime reason that brought people in flocks into the theaters allover US in its opening weekend but it is the Joker (Ledger’s performance) that will see through and place “The Dark Knight” alongside Shrek 2 and Titanic as one of the Highest Grossing movies of All-time.

Nice review buddy,, loved the movie!! i need to go and watch it again. Among the utter havoc the joker created i somehow got lost during the second half of the movie. I think the primary reason being, i didn't grow up reading batman, and i can't remember all  the batman movies either.. Christopher nolan is a mastermind. His screenplay was amazingly amazing :).. Christian bale. oh my gosh!! looked better than ever. ( sighhhh).

" Will the real batman please stand up." What a chaotic character. We all know heath ledger is a very good actor but his attempt to play joker, blew everyone away!! Yea,  i dont think anyone has any doubt about him bagging the oscar!! I just wish he was alive to receive it. :(

Another movie i watched is " mamma mia". I know, i know its cheesy and a total chick flick haha ( the movie was house full and there was probably 5 men in the audience). But hey i got to see the sneak peak for High school musical 3, and zac effron is  looking cuter than ever.. lol.. anyways coming back to mamma mia, i thought the story line  was ridiculous, but hey its a musical and  it was really really funny. Meryl streep totally steals the show. I know none of you guys are gonna go and watch it, hehe but i liked it!! I would give batman 5/5 and mamma mia porbably 3/5 ( only because it was funny).
