"We have carried out the sentence of God against 12 Nepalis who came from their country to fight the Muslims and serve the Jews and the Christians believing in Buddha as their God," the statement by Army of Ansar al Sunna said.

Friends...

Definately we all are shocked by the event of Iraq. It is universal truth that 12 Nepalese were 100% innocent. Sunnah Muslim will never be forgiven from us whatever they say as reason.

But I have some question regarding this event as following;
1. Why our government could not organized emergency meeting when terrorist kidnapped our 12 Nepalese. Whereas they stayed on emergency meeting after their death. Actually our government became so silly on this regard.

2. 12 Officials including ministrers can visit Greece taking just 6 players.....Can not one minister visit Golf for the relief of 12 Nepalese?

3. If government can not save the Masjid located just ahead of Singhdarbar and Royal Palace......how can we hope the may protect us from other events?

4. And opposition leader specially Girija....Does not he has any accountability toward nation.

i guess we must work now so that this does not happen again

first of all, the government should be able to monitor the operations of these manpower agencies. that would be my first priority. secondly, the people around the country should be educated about the risks of working abroad.

more steps should follow

Nepe,
the poem was written by a Nepali woman (D. Adhikari) and it was read in some poetry classes in college here, few years back. can't remember the exactly title......but it sounded like a lot like what you wrote. it was in english as well.

Peepal Tree,

That's interesting. I am not sure if I recognized D. Adhikari or remember reading her poems. Anyway, regarding the resemblance of our pieces, well, I am not surprised. What I wrote is a pretty common theme and I am sure there are hundreds of pieces similar to ours out there. But I assure you and other readers that I wasn't plagiarizing anybody's work knowingly.

I wrote this piece in one sitting and when I started to write I had two optional beginnings, both would bring me from 12 hostages down to a single hostage and then to that moment of reflection.

Since we are talking about the poem, let me share the second plot I had. Basically I would argue that this is not an issue about the number. After the protagonist has 12 hostages, it would go like this-

Does it have to be twelve ?
Ask I myself

Would I have felt less pain
Had they slaughtered eleven
Instead of twelve brothers of mine ?

No, I would have felt the same pain.

Would I have felt less pain
Had they slaughtered ten brothers of mine ?

No, I would have felt the same pain.

Nine ? Eight ? Seven ?

No, I would have felt the same pain.

Would I have felt less pain
Had they slaughtered a single brother of mine ?

No, I would have felt the same pain.

So, it's not about the number

I keep one hostage and let the rest free

and so on...

I did not chose this one because it looked too heavy, too intellectual to me. Comparative logic, on the other hand, sounded lighter, straight forward and more compassion provoking. That's how it came.

*************

Hanoi Thule and Budobaccha,

I am honored. Thank you.

Moneyminded,

All my life, I had this belief that I had succeeded to give all an impression of a perfect gentleman. Now you say I was naughty naughty. So where did I slipped in my acting ?

Nepe ji, indeed a poignant poem. I wish all my fellow countrymen have the same compassion as yours.
