Hi Friends,

I am going for H1b stamping in Nepal on Jan 2015 for the first time.
I am currently working with end client through a desi consultancy. Can you guys please share your recent stamping experience and also give information on the documents that I need to take with me to the consular?

Thanks in advanced.

HI All,

I got my visa this week.

First of all I applied for MRP and then only I scheduled my appointment the day after I was scheduled to get my passport.

In the US embassy, I took new passport so that the new visa is in the new passport.

So here are the things I did:

After filling up DS-160, I sent an email to US embassy for my PIMS verification. They send me an email saying everything was all set.

On the day of interview I did not submit any documents. They only asked for my I-797 and new passport.

Here is how my interview went.

US Consular : Namaste
Me: Hows it going? Your Nepali is really good.
US Consular : (Smiles) So did you study in University of **********?
Me: Yes that is correct.
US Consular : What did you study there?
Me: I did Masters of Science in ****** Engineering
US Consular : Your picture at that time looks so much different than now. You must have gained so much pounds.
Me: I love bacon... So that explains
US Consular : (Laughs frantically and then calms down and asks) So tell me what your company does and your position in your company?
Me: I explained one typical scenario that my product has impacted his daily life.
US Consular : Oh.. So you are that guy who does that !!
Me: Haha .. yes that is me
US Consular : Your visa is approved. You will get sms and email in couple of days and you should collect your passport in NIBL durbar marg.
Me: Cool. Have a good one

See, that officer was really nice guy and he didnt even ask for client vendor letters and other bull shits that I read in other dhoti ko forums. Just be confident and try to make conversation smooth.

Regards,
NE_Pats

My experience on Dec 27, 8:30am:

After waiting for about 45 minutes:

Me: How you doing?
VO: I am well, how are you?
Me: Doing Good!
VO: How long have you been working in this company?
Me: 4 years now.
VO: What is your position now?
Me: I am the ***********
VO: What is your current salary?
Me: $******
VO: What is the highest degree you have received?
Me: Two MBAs and Licensed as a CPA
VO: Wow! (Now turns towards my wife, who is there to renew her H4 as well)
VO: How long have you been married?
Her: 6 years
VO: How old is your baby? (She was with us)
Her: 16 months
VO: What do you do?
Her: Stay at home
VO: Everything is OK, we need to request PIMS and will let you know shortly.
Me: Sorry, but we didn't get your name?
VO: (Smiling), we are not allowed to give out our names. Sorry!
Me: It's alright!  Have a good one!

This took less than 2 minutes. Next day received a call from the US Embassy asking if I have my I-797. Told them they already have the copy. (After shuffling thru some papers, she said, yes she has it.)

Next day, received email saying passport is ready for pickup.

FYI: All we took to the embassy was our passports, I-797 and a copy of H1b application which was prepared by the lawyer. (All copies, no originals)

NE_Patriots/amriju/goenkaraj

Thats great news and glad everything went fine without any hassles.

Still trying to keep this thread alive and would like to post another question.

Is amendment necessary?
What exactly is it and do I need to get it done before I go for stamping to nepal?
I got my last H1 renewal when I was with the second client and I am with the third client now but according to my employer no amendment is necessary. Is that true?
Employer (Desi consultancy) tells me that I can go and come back without any issues and he is not willing to file for amendment. Whereas the Indians I work with tell me that it is very important and I should not go back home for stamping without getting that done.

I am confused, your inputs will be hight appreciated.

Thanks,
Jaamin

Jaamin,
If you are still working for the employer who filed your latest I797 Petition, you should be fine. You must have a client letter from your current Clint / Vender. But since your labor has client address mentioned on it, it's always better to have the matching client address.

Thanks

Thanks Amrriju for the informataion.

uhi_kya,

Yes, I have with the same employer for over 3 years now and I was with my previous client when my H1 was last renewed. Now I am planning to go to Nepal and current client does not provide client letter, so you highly suggest that I get my amendment done. Is that right?
Sorry I don't know much about this process and you also mentioned labor has client address mentioned on it, what exactly is labor and does my employer have to file that before I can to to Nepal for stamping?

Your inputs will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jaamin

Guys,

I have a situation here in my company. After I see my W-2, the employer name is not what is listed on my I797 letter from USCIS for Non-immigrant worker. When I talked to HR, they said this is just an independent company through which our company pays federal taxes. There are a lots of companies who use the same independent company to pay federal taxes and other stuffs. I don't understand why employer name is not showing here.

Now my question is, when I am being interviewed by the Counselor at the embassy do I need to show all of my tax documents too? My tax documents don't show the employer name to whom I have been working for. It shows only about the payroll company who issues us a check every other week.

on H1B since last October.

Kaliya

Can't believe you guys scared of going to Home Country for H1B visa stamping....some people just get scared forever...... while in F1, H1..etc.... you guys must be from Texas :)...... I don't know why but i have seen more people that get scared of such things are from Texas !

I went for 2-3 times and no issues at all.....

My recent visit on H1B..

Applied for a new MRP passport, took a new passport with me and I797 , Pay stubs and my employee ID, that's all..

Indian Looking Lady (is she Nepali ? don't know--but she was pretty !): Hello
Me: Hello....

Consular Lady: What's your Job title ?
Me: I am a "XXXXXXX"

Consular Lady: How much is you salary ?
Me: "$XXXXXX

Consular Lady: (smiles)....She seems impressed with my salary ...... Are you married ?
Me: Not yet, but i am getting married soon, that's why i am here.

Consular Lady: oh wow...congratulations ! Everything looks great. Your visa is approved but your PIMS needs a verification...
Me: What is PIMS ?

Consular Lady: It's just a update on our database, when your H1B was approved it needs to be updated in our database.. it should take about 5-7 days.

Me: Thank you..

Got a call from Embassy after a day, "your passport is ready for pick up"........ got married then my wife applied and she got approved too... !

I didn't get any approval from Foreign Department of Nepal.... Nobody asked for anything.....

It was super smooth process....

Update: One thing, when my wife was interviewed i had provided her with my Tax filings..1040..from last 2 years. It was an extra document i thought she might need. And..the consular asked her if she had my tax documents ! then Boom...she had it !

All of above conversations made me believe that you married that consular lady :P

Frustu bro, bhanna payo bhandai ma jpt chai nabhana la. ma ni texas nai ho ra darayera h1b garna najaney bhanney kura hoina. be professional while u respond.
next timlai testai this and that docs chaina bhanney lagcha bhaney why didnt u just go taking only passpirt and approved h1b doc as that is what they ask for during interview
lastly taking foreign department ko stamp is nepal's law. anyone going abroad to work from nepal u need to take it. if u dont take it and u had smooth exit from nepal then good but this dont happen always.

I went for H1B stamping at the end of January this year and I do had a long gap in my employment after OPT. This triggers the visa officer and gave me 221g. She told me to provide all the relevant documents from last 5 years to verify whether to approve the H1B or not. It was very stressful because it was hard to contact the employer and get all the relevant documents of backdated time. But I did not loose hope and slowly started gathering documents as much as I can and submit it after 2 weeks and waited for the response. After two and half weeks I was granted visa. I was lucky enough this time.

From my experience, If you have an long employment gap or you have join the college(non-credible) just for CPT purposes, then it would definitely haunt you back during the interview and it would be very difficult to get visa. Else if there is no employment gap, you have worked in OPT and then applied for H1B and working currently, then there will be no issues, you can go freely and get stamped easily. Above are the individual opinion based upon my experience.

Guys, I am going in April for H1B stamping and am trying to know how many days it takes from the day you take the date, to your interview to the day the passport is available. I am trying to take the least amount of days off from my work so I want to know how much I should plan for. I'm thinking about taking 2 weeks off. Will that be enough?

Thanks!

@hkrishna

In my experience, 2 weeks will be a very tight timeline for you. Sometimes it takes more than 2 week of time to get an appointment. So, I suggest you to make an online appointment before you go Nepal. I went in December 2014 and I didn't make online appointment. When I went for an appointment, I got date after 2 weeks. Also now a days it takes 3 business days to get visa in your hand.

You can fill up the visa application online before you depart to Nepal. You can also call Nabil bank in Maharajgunj where you can ask them the trend of Interview Dates given after Paying for Interview Fee. Once you file application online, you can ask your friends or relatives to pay the Fee at Nabil bank and book your interview date. You can arrange your Interview date the day after you land KTM. If PIMS require, it might take 3/4 additional days otherwise you are straight.
Good Luck, BTW I am also going in April n again Stamping, It's fun LOL. The above was my experience on April 2014. I appear in the interview 2 days after I landed.
