Ferguson fears for title defence

Sir Alex Ferguson admits Manchester United already face an uphill battle to retain their Premier League title after their derby defeat by Manchester City. United are five points adrift of main rivals Chelsea after claiming just two points from their first three games.

"We have given ourselves an uphill fight, there is no doubt about that," said Ferguson after Sunday's 1-0 loss.

"We have to get a win under our belts. We have Tottenham on Sunday. That has become a very important game for us."

spurs can ruin title race for united....they will

Benitez: We were robbed
RAFA BENITEZ blasted ref Rob Styles after a controversial penalty cost Liverpool victory.
And Kop skipper Steve Gerrard accused Chelsea of strong-arm tactics against Styles to force the decision.
Styles ruled Florent Malouda had been upended by Steve Finnan in the second half.
But boss Benitez snapped: “I want to have respect for the referee but only he can explain — but he will not be able to explain properly.

cry babies......you think liverpool were robbed then what u thinnk abut Chelsea when they were knockedout in CL semi when the ball didn't even cross the line (remember 2005 CL semi)...every team have fair share of luck ...don't they???

wow goodlife. crybaby. you know the decision yesterday was blatantly wrong. Regarding CL semifinal, the video evidence was completely inconclusive.

yesterday if Liverpool would have got such a lucky decision on their favor I know this thread would have been inundated with all the chealsea supporter compaining.

Anyway, we dont care. At least we show Chelsea who is better who have to resort to luck to save their face.

You can't WIN premiership in first 5-6 matches but you can certainly LOSE it. Man U lost to tottenham in next match will take them to the brink of losing the premiership.

Lol. How can you write off Manchester United so easily? There are still 35 games to be played for and I am pretty sure Man U will be back on track in no time. Don't ignore Liverpool so easily. The manager, the players have made it clear that Premier League is their major target this season so they won't give in easily. If Man U lags behind in the title defence in weeks to come, then it is Chelsea and Liverpool who will fight for the title. Rafa Benitez is one hell of a coach..he's just as good as Mourinho, if not better.

Personally, I like Arsenal. They play good football. They have a brazilian flavor in their game. Free flowing, attack minded game. It is a delight to watch their game. However, they have many young, inexperienced players. So they are not as strong title contenders as Chelsea or Man U or Liverpool for that matter. Lets see how the mystery will unfold in weeks to come.

no_quiero, that video doesn't prove that the goal is in. William gallas has cleared the ball with his one leg rooted in the ground outside the goal line and the other above the ground. Football rule doesn't speak anything about such condition but in cricket, if a fielder catches a ball over the boundry line without crossing the line with his feet, it's a catch and not a six. So, while Liverpool fans may claim that the goal is in, Chelsea fans have every rights to differ.

Anyways neither you can change that decision nor yesterday's. Although being a Chelsea fan, I must admit that it was a harsh decision for Liverpool. But every teams ride their luck now and then. Yesterday it was Chelsea's turn. Remember, fortune favours the brave so this year is Chelsea's year. I would bet my money on Liverpool for second spot though. Coz although ManU has a strong squad, the stupid Manure fans' ego will cost them everything. Their fans are the most evil of all. heheh harsh but true

Haha. rohi gurng ji. cricket ko niyam lyayera football ma hali dine. Football rule says once the ball is over the line it is a goal. A footballer can be inside, outside or anywhere in or outside the field . Its the position of ball that determines the goal. from the video it was clear the ball was in irrespective of position of William gallas.

no_quiero-jee, I think it's the same in football. Perhaps thats the reason why the catches by goalkeepers with their feet outside the line but upper part of the body stretched beyond the goal line are not considered goal. Also, sometimes the goalkeepers pull the inbound balls out with their body out of the goalline before the ball drops and that is considered a no-goal. Unless the ball drops inside the goal line or on the keeper or defender inside the goal line, how can you say its a goal? By your definition if the ball hits the inside of the post and bounces back it should be a goal, but it isn't. This is my view but you may disagree.

From The TimesMay 5, 2005

They think the García debate is all over — it is now
By Bill Edgar
IT WAS said that the debate over the authenticity of Liverpool’s historic goal against Chelsea at Anfield on Tuesday would rage for years. In fact, it lasted less than 24 hours.
Computer pictures prove that Luis García’s shot, which will be worth around £28 million to the club if they win the European Cup on May 25, was nowhere near to crossing the goalline when William Gallas, the Chelsea defender, hooked the ball away.

Using the Virtual Replay system, which was developed from Israeli missile technology, BSkyB showed that, far from the whole of the ball having crossed the whole of the line, as is required, it was not even close to reaching the centre of the line at the moment when it connected with Gallas’s right boot. All the camera angles produced during ITV’s live coverage of the match were inconclusive, even if most suggested that the official had probably made a mistake in awarding the goal.

Virtual Replay has been used in the past to settle arguments where “goals” were incorrectly disallowed. Given that Chelsea’s place in the European Cup final was at stake, Roman Slysko, the assistant referee who allowed García’s goal, appears to have made a serious mistake.

i watched the manu man city game on Setanta sports.. guys if u get direcTV u get that channel included with the package it seems. for less than $40 a month u get like 100 channels with Setanta sports, and i think u can add the sports package for FSC (fox soccer channel) for extra $10.. then u can watch all the premireship games Live...

if u want more then add the Sky Package.. but that one is kinda pricy.. so i suggest go thru directv and get sports package.

great game by the way... i loved seing that fergusons face cheering for a goal by tevez. But there was no goal and he realized that only afterwards and he turned red with embarasment.
