Some interesting posts i found

Nepali    4/3/2010 11:52:32 PM EST
We are all aware that Rato Bangala is doing the most dishonest academic plagiarism by a) issuing fake transcripts (meaning they "correct" grades of students) and inflate grades b) RBS students can buy essays fro certain price c) they write their own recco letters.

And it has paid off. Look at their college acceptance and look at ours. Its insane and wrong.

The Dixit family is running this scam for so long. We need to destroy it. Let us write an appeal letter to ALL the TOP schools in US asking them to 'blacklist' RBS.

What do you guys think?

ramshyam   4/4/2010 5:40:03 PM EST

I have heard this for many years now, and I think you have to be very careful about how you go about doing this. From what I have heard, RBS never actually releases the mid-term grades to the students themselves but sends it directly to the colleges; the students apparently never get to see their transcript that is sent on their behalf. I have also heard that the counselors there meticulously create a college list so that different students do not "clash" in their applications, meaning that it is unlikely for colleges to figure out the discrepancies. If this is true, and I have been told this by many people including "good" RBS students, what confuses me is whether these students actually do well in their final exams and perform as expected in the States. I have no idea about this.

I think this might be something that SEBS elders should look into. Even if it is true, if a bunch of recent BNKS students make these accusations against arguably out biggest rivals, it might have consequences for them.

It is quite amazing how all of you who have accused RBS of being dishonest have either said 'I heard that...' or 'I think that...'. Everyone needs to realise that you need to realise that unless strong proofs is put on the table, all these accusations are false. They are rumors spread by students who have despised RBS or may have been jealous. Rumor spreads like wildfire and all of you are just promoting this wildfire. I have heard various rumors about all the other school, however, I choose not to share it, because I do not know if it is true or not.

Jumping on to this exploding train, here I am.

I read the comments, I was raging.

FIRST OF ALL: if you got into a low tier college, it probably is your damn fault. OK? I feel thats where the all hatred comes from.

SECONDLY: If you didn't know the application process to apply to colleges, which by the way is, VERY TRANSPARENT, then, too bad for you.

LASTLY: who gives a crap if ur from this school or that school? Once you are here, you are HERE!! congrats!!! now time to make your life.

A word to people who are jealous that other people have "found out" about the holy path they are taking to get into good schools. SCREW YOU! now everyone knows about it. Its not just RBS, or Shuvatara, or Elites. EVERYONE knows about it.

Time to stop whining, and start refining.

RBS students are getting into good colleges because they are smart and talented. Perhaps the one who started this false rumor should stop wasting his/her time with this useless crap and work his/her way to getting a good college, instead. And people, before you start pointing fingers at the "dumbness" of RBS students who supposedly get into colleges because they have money, at least get your spellings correct.

smart and talented my @ss! only a handful might be. just like yomari and cheesecake dont go together, RBS and talent/smart dont glue together.

and about the spelling issue, you might want to open up your own forum of ivy league snobs from RBS rather than come to sajha where we do not discriminate anyone on the basis of misspelling, grammar structure, vocabulary or composition. hope you got the point!

yo kaji sahab...first of all, the very username you choose for yourself says of the kind of person you are  - a pompous character who quite clearly puts himself in very high regard, thinking everyone else is below you...second, if you think that RBS students abuse the power of money and the only reason they get into US colleges is because they shower money - well think again...getting into US colleges is not just about getting good grades, it's about the whole process  - the coorespondence, the constant interaction, basically the whole application process...unfortunately for BKNS students, the Dixit family, have learned pretty much every what, how and where there is to know reagrding this process and the students are just reaping the benefits of the hardwork the school board has done to ensure that their acceptance rate is a lot higher than any other school in Nepal...that's not top say though that RBS students lag in terms of academics - an ex RBS student, my batch completed A-levels with students getting Nepal top in 5 subjects and world top in 3...so yeah, BKNS might have been a prestigous name once, and I'm not saying it isn't anymore, it is still is a school that is held in very high regard in the Nepalese society but unfortunately for you guys, RBS is coming up and has reached that level as well, it is just as big a name for students who aspire to go to the US or anywhere else in the world for that matter and make a name for themselves

and oh yeah, just to make my point - on one of your previous posts, it's "right", not "write"...and you wonder why RBS students get into US and not others - learn to how to write english first, then you may be right  in arguing why RBS students get into better US colleges than BKNS....

there you go again snob......being critical of a spelling mistake.....i dont spell check in word and put it here....while writing in sajha i just jot down and go with the flow.

whats in a name? if i put my username as "intelligent", will that really make me intelligent?? you're trying to act smart by registering a new username.

we might not be perfect in english but we are not snobs and we do it all by ourselves. we do not depend on our parents to pay our school fee and boast about our money and class. i already told you that this is not the place for rich kids and snobs to hang out. its for all ordinary nepalese to share and express and that is why its called "sajha". probably you would need tuition in Nepali to understand that word since you guys started to cry in english right after birth.

BTW its "correspondence" and NOT "coorespondence"

it's about the whole process  - the coorespondence, the constant interaction, basically the whole application process

I hope you will be able to understand the writing(since its nepali) underneath and get the metaphor

Whoever started this utterly nonsensical thread obviously knew nothing about RBS. It's wrong (and insane) to accuse anyone or anything without any proof whatsoever. Thus, it goes without saying that whoever blindly wrote against RBS are people who have spoken out of jealousy and contempt.

To begin with, those who said RBS only has rich and affluent students should first come to see and have a look at RBS before speaking blindly. RBS has built up a hostel for those students who are talented (but who cannot afford to pay) so that they're not deprived of quality education. Which goes to show that RBS makes no discrimination against anyone who's financially unstable. RBS, as Kevin Lal Shrestha mentioned, also gives merit-based scholarships to deserving students, to talented students, to students who are in need.

The one who started this thread should keep his imaginations to himself. He has accused teachers of making "fake" transcripts and letting the students write their own recommendation letters. He's basically suggesting that RBS students aren't even deserving of getting into American colleges. But what is he trying to say anyway? The bottom line is that if students get to write their own recommendation letters, American colleges would no longer accept any student from RBS - because, as a consequence of letting them write their own recommendation letters, any student (even weak ones) could get into good American colleges. Clearly, the person writing the first thread has defied all common senses and logics.

RBS doesn't place its sole emphasis on academics because RBS knows that academics is not the only thing that counts. RBS has plenty of opportunities. As such, Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the original United Nations. RBS holds MUN to teach its students speaking skills, leadership skills, problem-solving skills and so on. Which basically makes students strong enough and aware of what's going on around the world. RBS sends its students to climate change conferences, for example, and to the Indian Model United Nations (INMUN), Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) because it has understood that in today's times, academics aren't the only thing that count. And by the way, RBS is the only school that holds MUN in Nepal. Those who've spoken poppycock against RBS should first pause to question if their own school places equal emphasis on various other aspects; not just academics.

Furthermore, those who've gotten into good colleges have good SAT scores. So, again will someone also accuse RBS of 'faking' student's SAT scores as well? (Let's see to what extent the accusations go.)

And for your information, not all RBS students get into good American schools. There are those who have been denied placements in good American colleges for various reasons. They have gone to other places and have done well to come to work for Nepal. RBS has given that value - irrespective of one's social class. RBS students are clearly intelligent and smart and do not have what's been imaginatively called "connections."

People, the point is that before writing plain nonsense, you should know if you are really correct or not. Unfortunately, there are those who have found new ways of expressing their jealousy. Here's my advice: utilize your time rather than making sensational and irrational arguments against those who have done good. And observers, you should be a little more discerning. Wrong, imaginary and overblown accusations against RBS have sold like hot cakes. But you'd do well to pause to differentiate sense from nonsense. And also, think of the ways that you yourself can do good instead of enviously speaking against those who have done good.

Money attracts money but big money attracts the most. Who has not cheated , Your parents may had done too? ( just speculation) , if not how come you got big house in Kathmandu and your uncle do not have it? Still living in village and same old house.

Bottom line is everyone loves to make easy money and easy money comes from crocked mind. You may not be born when Vanasthali high school was established , how did he do that ? All corrupt work, inflated the marks , find out the where the papers were distributed,a all most all got 1st division, no third division, who ever was in third was upgraded to 2nd division. It is all money, Money talks and bullshit works everywhere.
So I would not be surprised to read such article.  Who ever wrote it did not analysis about his own family background, how he got to a nice privet school with similar pay and posted people could not do it. You were lucky to have a parents like that.

First of all I joined RBS after my SLC and did not have the best opinions about the school and its students either. But after having graduated from RBS, I believe, hands down, that RBS prepares students not only for college but also for life, better than any other school in the country. And if you think its possible to get fake transcripts and recommendations in RBS, that really is the last you can imagine of being able to do there.
Seems like you have not thought of more plausible reasons to why RBS students get into good college, things like just having better teachers, better better facilities, and above all, a better mentality of just minding your own business and doing best what you can do, unlike some people around here.

And if you are wondering why Nepal has not had a chance to develop yet, it is because of ignorant, envious and incompetent people like you. How about using up your time to do something productive rather than accusing the few institutions that are actually doing something good for Nepal, with false accusations. And yes, if you do are capable of reading newspapers, you might have read how RBS students have year after year topped in A Levels, not only in the country but also throughout the world. If you think that THIS, along with getting good SAT scores, is also a result of the power and money of the parents, then I am sorry, I suppose you just have a thick skull.

Or MAYBE... you should start a new thread saying something like...."Is the CIE cheating?" or, "Is the collegeboard fraudulent?" .Yeah, you could do that. Or you could just focus more of your time on getting better grades, improving your resume, understanding what good colleges look for, and then maybe get into a good college.

So GOOD LUCK on that

Let me barge in in this interesting debate and put down my two cents too.

it is a universal truth that  --

a. good schools prepare students to face the world better.
b. good schools have adequate procedures for placement of its students in some of the best schools around the world. This could be achieved through preparation, exams, tests and counselling.
c. those who did not have access to such organized preparation to come to a school in the usa are simply jealous of others' success, especially if you spent half your lives teaching in a private school in kathmandu, frustrated, often not respected by your own students, or even due to salary/wage issues.
c. those who did foster excellent values even after attending some of the most ill-equipped schools in the country in terms of teachers, infrastructure, books etc. do not complain that some brothers and sisters who went to good schools such as RBS are doing well in life. I have seen them compete neck-and-neck with all others, even those who went to best schools in the usa and uk.
d. while everyone has the right to give a shot at everything best that is out there (good schools, good gals, beautiful gals, handsome boys, you name it), only those who did adequate planning encounter the path of least resistance. but the truth is, the degree of gripe and jealousy against students like those from RBS is directly proportional to the magnitude of adversities other "toray-lahurays" encountered in their lives. but it cheers me up that not all of them are jealous. you will find gem of people once in a while in there too.
e. fake certificates and recos? in nepal you can make seals and certificate for a few hundred rupees. it is the value in you as a person that should say no to these cheating means and come out of the crass attitude of trying to accomplish things the wrong way. you are allowed to fail. learn to fail honorably.
f. with that being said, sabaiko bhalo hos, suru chai ma bata hos...lol!
cheers!

Rato Bangala School situated at Patan Dhoka, Lalitpur charges Rs 50,000 as admission fee, including Rs 25,000 in deposit, for all students from class 1-10. The primary level students are charged a monthly tuition fee of Rs 6,800 that includes lunch while the monthly fee for class six is Rs 7,150. The monthly fee for class 10 stands at Rs 7,400. The fee structure is being slightly revised soon to adjust for the education tax.

http://www.myrepublica.com/portal/index.php?action=news_details&news_id=2373

Yearly school fee of class 10 = Rs. 7400 x 12 = Rs. 88800

Percapita Income of Nepal = $473 = $473 x Rs. 71 = Rs. 33583

Only those whose ENTRY LEVEL JOB fetches him more than Rs. 1 lakh can afford this school

How about their future.

If they really cheated their way to top tier colleges, do you think they can handle the top notch classes on subjects ranging from Philosophy to Writing to what not? Just bunch of BNKS dudes who thought only they had the pass to go to heaven! Their so called 'center of excellence' is going down the drain with NPS acting like a seven-headed monster.

Kids from unheard plus twos are making it to the ivy leagues and alike, and you think school run by Dixits, who themselves went to Columbia, needs cheating?

P.S. I didn't go to BNKS or RBS. I chose a better one.
