The International student advisor at Cameron University has given A SEVIS TERMINATION AND OUT OF STATUS letter to two of the current students stating that they were involved in offcampus job. Both of the students are in F-1 status . What are the options for these students to be in status again ? We entire Nepali students in Lawton, Oklahoma are waiting for your views and comments .

I am so sorry to hear about it. To contact immigration lawyer is the best option. Once a lawyer in NYC told me that once you enter the USA there are thousand options to stay here. So don't worry have faith in GOD, it helps...........

The Pakistani Guy is also is at risk I guess. He could not employe illegal worker...Then why he is doing that? You can report to the labor department, or not????????

We tried to contact several immigration lawyers in Dallas, Oklahoma City, Virginia etc regarding the case. As commented by several sajha members , we tried to get idea from Indian Lawyers.
Its ridiculous that most of the lawyers have given us the option to go through College Vice President and President. We tried the meet Vice president yesterday . He was out of office all day. We got an appointment with Vice president on Monday and with President on Tuesday. We are preparing to speak with them.
One of the immigration lawyers in Oklahoma city commented that he would not be able to do anything. He said go through the college student code of conduct and talk with the college administration. He said that INS official would be coming in certain time periods searching for the students and give them only two options either to go to Nepal or request for a hearing. He said he would be our attorney in such case.
We talked with the DSO and other administration regarding the case. The DSO said that if the case would come only upto her than she would leave the student with a warning. She said she would never take such action against a student. A student is 100% safe if the complain is upto her. But this case was taken to higher administartion by the Pakistani himself trying to solve it. The universiy conducted a meeting including the pakistani and they made a decision to TERMINATE THE SEVIS . Pakistani did not even say anything to the students regarding the case. Both of them were still working until one got a letter in a mail .

We are praying to God and look forward in this situation. We are waiting for views from all.

Lawton Nepali

Pokhara 22

do not worry too much, do the university can produce hard proof that you worked illigally? You can visit and hang around in any place where you know your friends and family work? or your family friend own the business. it seemed to me that your university take it personally or some one in university personal have ego problem. University can give several time warning, that is all. for instance, you worked for few weeks, to kee you body and soul, so that you can keep contunue your hugher study. it is humanitarian ground. you can defend you case, as you are going to see VP, be polite and keep your point strong. be strong, dear bro.

what kind of int. advisor is that...seems like racist. usually int. advisor tries to help their students no matter what and that pakistani is screwing everything. i guess he is scared that he will be ined with some charges or hiring illegal employe, so that's the only reason he is doing all sort of things...am really sorry to hear all these...i wish u all the best

one thing you guys can do is, ask help from paki, if he refuses then threaten to complain his business to labor department. he has already made mistake by calling the meeting with SCHOOL to defend his action, which prove that his action of hiring students was deliberate. Drag him to this mess as well, that way you guys might have some chance of help from him.

2nd option: go to the dean or IS director's office and geniuinly ask for forgiveness and even ask if you can be in probation. tell him/her that you did not intend to voilate the law rather tried to make extra money during the crunch time. Also explain that the owner tried to persuade you guys saying its ok and he can handle it (his calling of the meeting will prove this). make an appointment and talk to the directory, make yourself geniunly sorry and honestly ask for second chance.
yes, indian lawyers arent the best, but they could be worse for vunerable nepalese. if you really need lawyer, try to find young dude with hispanic background. at least they are cheaper and easier to deal with.

We have a meeting Tuesday at 1:00 clock with the college President. We are hoping this will solve our problem.

Pakistani is a stupid person that any Nepalese can ever imagine. If we were in Nepal or he was in Nepal doing such activities ; he would have been assassinated already by students.

As for today we went to VP for an appointment . He refused to talk with us and said that everything will be decided tommorow in the meeting with president.

We Nepali student have been writing emails to VP and DSO requesting to reconsider the decision. He has replied saying" some appropriate action will be taken"

Lets pray to God for our friends

Here's a suggestion bros!
Tell the President that you guys aren't the only people who're working off campus without working permits and also share the experiences of other Nepalese living in the U.S. who've been working off campus and how the whole U.S. government has ignored it over the years. Plead with him for the forgiveness and tell him that if you guys got deported then your futures will be destroyed and all the hardwork of your parents' will go down the drain. Ask him that you guys are willing to transfer ( act as if you guys don't wanna do that ) if he doesn't want you all to study there anymore! Try to highlight the financial situations and DON'T forget to bring the magical conversion rate ( 1 dollar - 64 NRS ) in the discussion along with Nepal's per capita - 340 dollars/year and the collapsed economy as well.
Good luck once again!

Hi Pokhara_22,

It is very sad to hear about your situation, and I understand your dilemma.

I know you guys did something wrong against the law, but it can be mended. Guys, please do not panic. I understand, you guys have been going through a roller-coaster ride at this moment, but please be careful on every step you are taking right now.

My question to you- have you given any warning or something like that prior from your International Student Advisor? Or perhaps to any other before??? Is this the first case it had happened in your university? Did an international student advisor send the notice to INS? Anyway, in your case, the best suggestion is to talk with the highest official of the University-President-Vice President-Dean! I know, you guys did mistakes and those higher official people will sure give you hard time approaching them. Forget about their schedule, whether they are available or out of town, that is their typical tactics of dealing with any one who wants to have an appointment, and not to mention your situation right now. Fall semester is way far from now, so take a time. Persistent- that is my motto. Keep on trying. I think you guys are meeting today right? So, please take full advantage of meeting.

Try not to lament too much and try not to be arrogant. You should mention that you made a mistake of doing off-campus employment. Also mention that there should be some sort of warning prior giving such a harsh letter. Tell them you are a very hard working student, and if you have good GPA's, please do not forget to mention them. If you are graduating soon, then take full advantage of that saying with all these years of your hard work and dedication etc.

I am sure talking with the University officials will definitely help you sorting the problems.
Guys, don't panic. Be cool and Good Luck...!!!

'It is easier to give the advice than to receive it'. Having said that, I'm giving few. I feel very sorry for what had happened. But I see there's still a hope as the case is still within the school, and till now the school has the power to determine. I'd recommend writing down the main points that you're going to discuss with Mr. President. Since you know that mistakes have been made by your side, I'll not try to argue or try to justify my actions by saying that other int'l students are doing the same or warnings have not been given. But rather I'll try to focus on few positive sides like others also recommended: boasting about GPA, talking about family conditions and their great hopes from you and the pain they'll get if you had to return, the lessons that you learned from this and talk about all the pains and sleepless nights that you've got from this; moreover, don't forget to add that you're never gonna do this mistake again and confine yourself within on-campus work. In my opinion, talking about our poverty may give the impression that you may go for off-campus works if you're acquitted. You've to impress and try to prove themselves that you're never ever going for off-campus works again and this is the dumbest mistake of your life, and beg them for one more chance. You can also add how your life is going to be wasted if you would have to return home as you won't be able to focus on studies again as everyone will know there you returned there without completing your studies. Not even by mistakes, you ever mention about the mistakes of pakistani or the immigration lawyers that you've tried to contact.

You know better than us as you're in the situation. So my last advice would be to use our suggestions that you think is going to help the best for you.
