Democracy loving Nepali Diaspora in various cities of the US and other countries are organizing rallies to observe Feb 1 as a 'Black Day".

In 'Nepal Democracy Google Group', we have had discussion regarding rallies at the following places,

Washington DC
New York
San Francisco, CA
Phoenix, AZ
Gainesville, FL
Cleveland, OH
Columbia, SC
London, UK
Hong Kong

Washington DC organized the rally yesterday. Some 200-250 people attended the rally. Slogans demanding Constituent Assembly and anti-monarchy slogans including the most popular one, "Gyane Chor, Desh Chhod", speeches and poetry recital characterized the rally.

Gainesville also had the rally yesterday. About a hundred people attended it.

New York will have a rally on the 1st of Feb in front of UN Headquarter (Ralph Bounch Park, 3:00 pm ).

London will be organizing a rally in front of the Parliament on Feb 1.

Other cities are also having rallies on Feb 1.

Although Feb 1 is being called a "black day", the fact is that it was the brightest day in terms of opening our eyes regarding monarchy. I would call it an "eye opening day" instead.

My suggestion: please ensure that respectable number of people attend the protest to show that they are credible and they hold some value. Otherwise, it would be just a waste of everyone's time and the current government in Nepal would not even notice that some protests are being held. At least gather enough people so that it gets covered in regional newspapers, if not national ones. Ask your calssmates to participate. It doesnt matter who attends the program. What matters is how many.

Chhiring,

The purpose was not a showing of strength, but making a gesture. We are organizing rally even at places where very few Nepalis live. I do not know if that makes sense to you.

Larger crowd is certainly better. However, if I am really interested in numbers, I'd look at it this way. Compare these rallies with the ones organized by the supporters of the King.

How many rallies and how many people in them you see in support of the King ?

Zero (not counting the handful of royalists' and neutralists' parade in Sajha ;-) )

Now, I hope these small crowds make some sense to you.

I always ignored politics, but not anymore. Lets not consider what we think is absolutely right and other are wrong.

Maoists had valid reason to rebel against the government, though I will never agree to the level of an arm struggle. Political parties have reason to protest against the king. King had ground to assume the power. Goverment has point to retaliate against the Maoists and crackdown on the protests of the parties.

All three parties are right from their point of view. If your feeling resonates with royalists, you will never be able to appreciate Maoists and Parties. If you are party or Maoists supporter you can not believe that a normal person can be a royalist. As we know, if Mr GP Koirala has to scold someone he will tell him a royalist :). Funny, isn't it?

People think differently; diverrsity is a beauty of nature. A forest dweling ever meditating monk and a NASA cosmologist can't have same prospective to see the world. One (Monk) is introvert and try to limit his mind within himself; where as another one is extrovert and tries to see the universe. You can not say who is right monk or the cosmologist. If your feelings tune up with the scientist, the monk is weasting his life and vice-a-versa. To make correct analysis you have to know what both of them are doing.

Don't run after the partial truth. You must think what would the oponent be thinking and why is s/he doing so. This will help you to reach to the solution. This will make you better than your opponent. This will make you wiser and smarter than your opponet. This will pull more mass towards you and you will be stronger than your openent.

So, lets respect each other. We all have done mistakes, we have to correct them. Maoists, royalists and parties, all three have to self evaluate. We have to sit, have dialoge and reach to a conclusion. There are selfish people in all three groups, however, in majority, everyone wants the welfare of Nepal. Lets leave the feeling of self rightiousness. What I think right may or may not be right for you. I should know this and respect your feelings.

To rule by defeating other and to live by destroying other is very old fashin and uncivilized. We have to accomodate each other. Believe me or not there is no other way out. I feel shame, we are quite uncivilized.

I think, he is the king who can save a lot of Nepali lives. I can see the problem from his point of view and find Maoists and party leaders wrong. However, I am able to see from the point of view of Moaists and parties as well, that doesn't leave the king innocent. King is a father figure, he has all the power right now. This is the best chance for him to solve the problem and become a national hero.

Win by heart not by gun.

Being a Royalist Pimp, who don't see them as Royalist, always show their justification of how the King is acting, reacting. The Maoists do the same. I see no difference between these two.

Please find some time to read this article by Gagan Thapa on today's Kantipur. This is helpful for those guys who thinks "Compromise" with king is the only solution of the current political crisis.

For those "Roylists" and so called "Neutralists", i think one souldn't waste his time discussing with them. Forgive them for their ignorance.

7 parties are crossing all limits now. They are too following the path of violence like their brothers maoists and condoning the shooting. This is a sad day for anyone in Nepal who believes in democracy. The 7 parties now have dug their own grave.

Megalomaniac and kura nabujheko nepali, everyone has their right to raise their voice. Some in the streets of ktm are brave enough to face the police and shout the pro-democracy slogans there but some are not. But we here are also equally concerned about the situation in Nepal, and we want to do in the way we can. Why do we need to follow you to goto ktm to protest? You've nothing to say when they're beating the protestors and arresting people and cutting off telephones, and call brave to those who declare curfew on the day of protest and ban the mass gatherings. Oviously, you guys consider brave and smarter and more patriotic than those who cry for welfare of Nepal from wherever they can. I say my foot to your slogan of 'jaya des jaya naresh'.

Gwajyo Jee - hajur bhagawan ho ki kyaho? otherwise how do you know i am 'jaya des jaya naresh'.if some one doesn't agree with so called 7-parties' principles, means he/she is 'jaya des jaya naresh'? gjab chha ba!!!

Bhagawan nabhae ni abatar chhain ho jasto chha.

i, probably others too, hate 7-parties because of their lack of internal democracy, power hunger, making gyane powerful, creating maoist not listening their 41-point demands in time,100% india orientation,'we are always right'-principle and so on.

they pushed the country into the hell and are acting as 'chokho chor' now.

there can't be autocratic king in 21st century, no doubt, but i am little hopeful from 7-party until and unless new generation without girija/makune 'sanskar' comes in effect. i oppose demonstration for the leaderships of already failed 'black' man like girija(s) and makune(s).

My name means a fool (for your kind information).

I totally agree with your last paragraph. My only further comment is that monarchy had already pushed nepal into the bad conditions; corrupted crooks from parties made it worse, and this KG and maoists made it even worst.

I also feel equally disgusting when I see khumes, wagles, koiralas, makunes, sheres n' their gang. A special rule or understanding should be made to exempt them from being prime ministers and other crooks from being ministers. I understand your concern that we don't want the new democracy to fall into the hands of these crooks again.

Gwajyo, I am neither a king supporter, nor a friend to seven party's movement. I am not against anyone. I just happen to find the slogan, "gyane chor desh chod," li'l funny coming from those who are not in Nepal.
Yes, I did not have anything to say "when they're beating the protestors and arresting people and cutting off telephones, and call brave to those who declare curfew on the day of protest and ban the mass gatherings," and I still don't have anything to say when so called prodemocrats, in the name of democracy, shot a mayoral candidate.

Megalomaniac, may be you've been able to detach yourself from nepal n' nepalese, but not us. Why don't nepali citizens residing in foreign countries don't have right to speak their voice? We've all rights. Don't the people residing in the foreign countries have the voting rights too? Many countries have even established the procedures for sending the votes for their citizens residing in foreign countries. We all know - every vote counts. It is a different question as some people decide to use their voting rights and some don't. But in Nepal, it's much more than voting rights. Not only the people of Nepal but also other humans are too concerned about the worsening human rights and other deteriorating situation of Nepal. I wonder how can you not feel anything about the cutting off of telephones and other problems in Nepal.

Regarding shooting of mayoral candidate, I do condemn it and it's done by pro-democrats. Maoists are not pro-democrats. Actually Tanka dhakal has just called this as 'minor accident'. Is this really a minor accident? I even oppose political parties trying to block filing candidancy of people. The other people also do have equal rights to vote and file candiancy. It just shows that these so-called democratic parties have still not changed, and have not understood the real definition of democracy.

Slogan should have been. . .

Gyane chor desh chod,
Maile ta chade, taile pani chod :)

Mero bichar ma yesto Slogan hunu parne hamro Diasporas haru ko.

Given the way the so called PEACEFUL protest goes in Nepal, I have kind-of developed a liking for protesters in US. This is what we call a real, mature, and constructive protesting. (Derived from constructive criticism ;)). Also, I do not hear of suddenly turned democratic leader,i.e., Murari raj and others dog fighting for limelight. As long as I do not see some people trying to make the most of every possible scenario, for themselves; I am fine with it :).

My sincere suggestion to the protesters would be give a protesting class to other PEACEFUL, UNPAID, CONCERNED, (and did I say peaceful, oh I did, okay) protesters back in Nepal. How about contacting organizations such as Amnesties and other very concerned NGOs, or what the heck, even US government is VERY CONCERNED about happening in Nepal re ajkal. My oh my, I wonder if US intelligence have discovered an oil resources within or somewhere in the proximity of Nepal? I can not wait for it to be another Iraq. Halleluiah!!!

Did I tell you I was more or less for toppling Saddam in Iraq, and my opinion did count ;), but now I speculate if that was the right move? But Bush's hands are guided by the lord himself, or so he claims, thus maybe he will pull off another miracle, like the one he is pulling off everyday by waking up as the president of the United States. He must be doing something right, and I wonder why people do not give him his due credit for his intelligence. :p

And about organizations such as Amenesties who are doing thriving business in Nepal, thanks to Maoists, Gyane and our visionary leaders (are they paid by these organizations too? I wonder... human rights people are earning good re. A good career path, if you want to work in Nepal for now.;)), they (Amnesties and akin orgs.) seem to have millions of $$$ at their disposal, so, they can easy sponsor for the "How to protest - 101" course by US based Nepalese diasporas in Nepal, strictly dealing on--->"What is peaceful protest?" (Pat@ on my back, for being so thoughtful.:) Ha ha!

Let me see who shall lead the class in Nepal. "Mr. Murari Sharma?" (He is a public figure, is he not?) Last I understood, those organization does "pay" decent $$$ as well. Media mileage and dollars, Mr. Murari jyu would be happy to lead the class. Oh did I tell you, it could be counted as samaj sewa as well. Harey shiva, bhagye nai baliyo waha jasta haruko. :). Jaha gaye ni hatt ma laddu ;) Wah wah!!!

Sometimes I feel, these Netas, Maoists and King are all together in this business. Maybe they have all decided to suck as much as possible for another 2-3 years before they come up with some clever and go-halves with the power thing.

For now, it seems that Monarch is sucking national treasury in light speed, our "dear" (pub intended) political parties have a legitimate income from donors and their alma-mater, our ever so concerned neighbor India, and Maoists, I mean what do they care? They are not even human.

Okay screw it! New slogan for your rallies people,

Gyane chor desh chod,
Maile pani chode taile pani chod :p

And hey, think about the protest class in Nepal like I mentioned. There is lotsa $$$ in there for "some" interested folks.

Jai Nepal,
IndisGuise :)
