Situation of Nepal is getting worse everyday due to corrupt politicians. Sometimes I feel like Nepal will be better off as an Indian territory. What do you thik?

giordano, you should be proud to be a human, to be an earthling.
'Proud to be a Nepalese or any other nations' shows some good sentiments attached to the land you were born in, am not against this sentiment,but  remember, borders were created, we first are human and then earthlings, and then whatever name  you wanna add at the end -ese,-can,-ians at the end.. your choice.

Should there be apocalyptic scenario , say massive Apophis Asteroid hit our planet in coming year 2032, say it hit the mediterranean region around equator, do you really think, being of certain nation will save you from catastrophe? 

so why all this fuss. We belong to this planet, whereever we're treated better, we have a choice to go there, How can we be traitors when our only wish is to be in better place? Isn't our only reason of existence is to be happy? Introspect yourself, every single move in your entire life is geared to become happy and SHOULD be to make other happy. Many fail miserably to achieve it, few succeed.

Few things in my opinion, Nepal will never be taken by India or USA, namely because of China being in close proximity and China will never take over Nepal either because of India and USA influence. Having said that why would anyone want to take over Nepal? what is the ROI that will justify waging a war to takeover Nepal? India will never annex Nepal because they know that is not going to be fruitful for them, they have learned their lesson from sikkim and mizoram/manipur headache.  They are already influencing Nepal's policies by pressuring the ruling party, whether it is maoist, congress, monarchs or otherwise by dictating the policies that favor them so why even bother? ultimately our geographical location forces us to comply with them and there is very little we can do and they very well know this.

In that regards India has already taken over Nepal, modern day occupation of a foreign country does not involve forceful takeover, rather it involves creation of policies that favors one's nation as much as possible without having to shed a single drop of blood.  

 Our Politicians are nothing but Puppets of Indian Government. They have all been castrated therefore only have the ability to bark and not bite. Maoists came into power hoping to gather up their mojo and put on a show but ended up all castrato. 

Wow I didn't expect this much response since it was only a rhetoric question. Because as we know it, it is highly unlikely that India will be directly able to take over another sovereign country in this day and age. But as couple of you have pointed, India does not need to take over Nepal because India already has pretty much full control over Nepal be it social, cultural or political.

Inspite of us marvelling at our bravery and being blessed with Mount everest and buddha birthplace, India has always held control over the socio-political aspect of Nepal.

Some of us responding here have lived out of Nepal for sometime so we have different experience in evaluating patriotic sense with common sense. We grew up being fed propaganda text books extolling the greatness of our ancestors and our kings thus holding us captive in our deepest mind to burn that unflickering candle of patriotism within us. Brainwashed to find great value on a giant piece of stone and the luck of birth of Buddha, our sense of false pride has constituted our ego for lack of anything else major or worthy of being proud.

Some of us have recently left Nepal in search of better opportunities and the years of brainwashing of false greatness is still there so we will try to hold on to the insignificant hollow pride.

After becoming the so called 'global citizen' one has to recognize the essence of freedom of choice which brought you out of Nepal in the first place. Of course you have emotional connections but you chose to leave it all behind but you still have enormous pride for being a Nepali and it is engraved in your ego. But as a practical person, if someone ask what you are proud of then there is no achievement or anything else you can say besides the overused mountain and the buddha.

Perhaps instead of holding on to the hollow pride, we can move on as a whole and accept the truth and the reality that Nepal is a failed state created by the greed of politicians who mostly come from poor underpriviledged upbringing and continue the cycle of the neverending downward spiral.

It is difficult to imagine what would stop this process. Have any of you thought what would actually stop this cycle of corruption and greed?

look at where nepal was and where nepal is right now. things are not as good as it we hoped for but it's not that bad either. progress and development takes time. nepal is going through revolution right and she will definitely come out winner in near future.

The place of birth is a man made restriction as far as border of land while a mother is someone who gave you birth by keeping you in her womb for 9 months. There is no comparision to mother and place of birth. If one were to do a study on any Nepalese who says "I am proud to be Nepalese", you will find that these people come from middle class or the upper class, who will not suffer no matter how long it takes for Nepal to be a success. So they have all the patience. They form 10% of Nepal's population. I also belong to this 10% who can afford to wait for a successful Nepal.

But is this about the 10% or the 90% who really struggle from day to day to make ends meet, struggle for proper healthcare, struggle for almost everything that one should not struggle for to function as a human being in an ordinary life. Why should this 90% keep on waiting?. They are the ones to suffer and always wait and wait. Who are we the 10% to always decide for them to wait. What if you belonged to that 90% needing food, shelter, healthcare, job, etc?. Would you still have that patience to wait?. Why should they even wait 1 minute, let alone wait for yonks.

If i were president of Nepal, i had do the most Anti National thing. Call for a referendum to be ruled by white people (USA). At least this 90% will see some relief. Even joining India is a great idea that i would discuss with my kitchen cabinet. IF this is done in a legal way, UN will have no issues. Puerto Rico is also contemplating joining USA and could be a reality of the near future. In fact Mitt Romney had shown them the green light. Noone can do anything if this is done legally and it is high time that educated Nepali youngsters got together to put forward anti national ideas which could benefit the 90% citizens of Nepal.

This is serious!. Vote for USA of Vote for India in such a referendum. Anything that is better for this 90% of Nepalese, is worth it for giving up this concept of independent  Nepal. If being a lengdup dorje is beneficial to this 90%, long live lengdup dorje and his shenanigans!

It seems like there are two types of Nepalis.

The first kind has a constant need to feel connected to something to feel important. So they will connect themselves to their caste, nationality and national pride.

The second kind have been sort of liberated, if you will, to see a broader picture of life.

@giordano, am not trying to change your view. Sorry if I sounded so, I was infact hoping for goodness in the quality of Nepalese people's life. And, for me, it seems at the moment, only merger could solve this crisis. There was no Nepal, when Buddha was born, and there was no Nepal when Mt Everest stood tall during all these Earth's geographical changes which took place eons ago. I simply don't understand what all this drama is for. Probably, it's the media hogwash who deliberately played songs and videos of how dearly their land is to them. Thats how they do it in China, thats how they do it in North Korea, India and Nepal and so many others. I don't blame you. I just think little out of the box. It's cause of such brainwashed bunch, there are wars and violences everywhere who would kill/die for the sake of invisible fake beliefs or for their own selfishness. I feel regret instead of getting angered at, when I read their limited mental capacity to think and how they express.

Why do you see a constant unending line of Nepali men and women standing to get an opportunity to work abroad? why do you see so many nepalese kids going abroad? why do you see people filing for residency in foreign land? if things had been an ounce better then people should have been flocking back. The reality is things are not better for anyone in Nepal, people have now accepted this dishearteningly dire situation as the new norm. As soon as the small percentage of privileged people get into their gated compounds and in the security of their homes they forget about the gloomy existence of the world outside that most people are facing everyday.

I clearly forsee India is not going to takeover nepal. All india wants is a fully puppet Nepal, full control over defense, foreign policy, and all the resources. Even if india takes over, somehow, Nepal will be a hell like Afghanistan and she will be a pain in the hairy dhoti ass coz many people will still chose to die as nepali than being an indian. 


 I recently went back home and found things have improved quite a bit except the law and order. If i am not wrong this utter chaos will not last longer if we have a few good and visionary leaders. So wait, do not panic. If educated and learned people like us start thinking like this we'll be getting nowhere even if we are annexed to usa or japan. Coz it's fugitivism. Stop being losers folks. Compared to India our ranking is not good but India has not made any progress either. 
If Indians start to think the way you think may be they will say "because of corrupt politicians India is getting worse everyday may be they are better off a Chinese territory.

Just a reminder, China thinks Arunachal Pradesh is a Chinese territory 

 As it is, India will not let Nepal develop. If Nepal develops, Nepal will automatically incline towards China, which they don't want.

1) India started the Maoist war
2) India started the Madhes movement and started handing out citizenships to Biharis, Bangalis and Pakistanis
3) India is trying to incite racial violence in Nepal by instigating Janajatis, Tharus and Madhesis.
4) India doesn't facilitate trade with Nepal in anyway and always slaps two way tarrifs on Nepali exports. 

India's long term goal is to capture Nepal's resources and make it a huge market for Indian goods. 

I think Nepal should join the Indian Union as well. In today's globalized society, country and nationalism have no value. The only thing that matters in capital and resources.
