Copy paste SUCKS ? maybe not!! i put the source down below!!! okhay i will put down in my own words...
~ the first question asked on my network security class was.."who owns the Internet ?" The answer was NOBODY... so to me CISPA right now is trying to control the internet in name of Security. the internet needs to be free and open. i can, as of now, go to forums and talk about my dissatisfaction about the government without getting caught. heck this will change with the CISPA. maybe one day i would want to work in a government agency and the first thing they pull out of their drawer is my browsing logs!! my porn history? my atheist views ? pictures from my fb where i look passed out? So, instead of me being judged by my ability or knowledge i would be judged by my Internet activities.
u think 311 million people are hard to monitor ? i doubt that!!!
all u have to do is put the red flags when anyone types words like... Al qaeda... eff america... ..communism...n blah blah blah....
Also.. i use TOR ... not cause i am DDOSing websites in support of Anonymous...its just that i don't want google to be storing my browsing activities. I DONT .... i don't do criminal activities in Internet but still that doesn't mean that someone over the monitor needs to know what am i doing by reading "Communist manifesto" or what am i drinking in Starbucks.
i do see your points as well but with this bill PRIVACY is gone...
n the bill hasn't passed the Senate yet!! where the majority is democrats!!
Another news: Microsoft backed off from support of CISPA (looks like they joined the mob mentality)LOL

dont give up!! healthy discussions are fun!! :P
here are my two fav quotes:

"Opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks."

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Let me start this with quote(if you also mention who quoted those quotes, that'd be great rather than sounding it's your own) as well,

'People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness.
Just because they're not on your road doesn't mean they've gotten lost.
-Dalai Lama '

I've never said what your thought is wrong. I was just arguing that at least we should use our own logic not others. You still have not read that bill on your own, and I already have mentioned that if you read the bill and you still have the same idea, I would respect that. But if you think I don't need to read that pages long bill, but support those who already read the bill, I've no words to say.

and, you are saying with this bill, our privacy is gone?, welll.. read what I said above.. our privacy is gone long long ago brother. If you torrent and seed, and the owner finds your IP, your ISP sends you a big old NOTICE OF COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT right on your door. I'm not faking, just go and search google with that keyword(NOTICE OF COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT) and this has been going since 2006 so far I remember. Way before SOPA/PIPA or CISPA was even thought of.

What I'm saying is, now they're declaring openly that they're doing it. Before, they were already doing it without our concern. The only glitch is that they want to take our right to sue on privacy concern. That means we can't file lawsuits against those companies who handed our information to government. This is it. All this outcry is just over this. Not that it's some new BEAST unleashed upon us. I agree there are couple of more concerns as well. But the whole thing is over it.

BTW, "nobody owns internet" is little narrowed-down idea. We all know who created internet, Tim Berner Lee. He wanted to have that network where everyone of his colleagues from around the world could access the database regardless of whatever operating systems they were using. He just wanted to share some information. He created first hyperlink page and to access which he coded the first HTTP browser ever. I forgot the name but he did. This very basic concept of network accessibility revolutionized the way information was shared. Overtime, other corporations tried to take over it and it scared the shit out of him. He set the standards on how the web should be laid out and regulated, WWW consortium was born. Oh yeah, they set rules on internet. In another word, they control it and on that regard, they somehow control internet.

And remember, they have 'kill switch' on internet as well. The moment it's turned on, internet is dead on every house in the planet. Don't think your ISP is the who gives you internet, supercially YES but at core level, they don't.

You are right, nobody owns Internet Yet everyone owns it :D That's the definition of network, isn't it?? ;D

 "[Present Time]
Obama didn't veto the bill because it's re-written over internet privacy concerns. "

The bill still has to go through the senate and then to Obama's table. So it is early to say if Obama did or didn't veto the bill.

okhay i know how the history of internet! u might wanna go beyond tim berner lee!! :P !! CISPA is not only abt the copyright infringement!!! its about the companies handing over the information to the government officials. its about how the government uses the data!!! i really don't like the idea of government having to know all the stuffs we do ..i don't like the idea of being monitored about all my browsing activities and what i post on forums!!!! and abt your copyright infringement!! yes you will be fined for downloading those contents!!! i know people being fined for downloading "hurt locker" movie. YES i am aware of that!! i have heard about the testimony of AT&T engineer who said that the whole backbone of the internet was tapped. Facebook & other companies share our information too, YES I AM AWARE OF THAT TOO!!! i dont use my real name in facebook!!! i don't put obnoxious pictures or anything that could be used against me !!! REASON ? i guess you know it!!!

HERE's the thing!!!its about right to freedom and privacy!! i know our privacy has been invaded since LONG TIME !!! but does that mean we have to support this bill!! maybe people can show there dissatisfaction against the government!!! and what irks me that these leaders have not realized that you can't control the internet!!! think of how this bill can be disastrous to the people!!!
and yes about "KILL Switch" i know abt that!! think what will happen to the infrastructure of this country!!! i hope they dare to do it!!:P

Some muslim terrorists were responsible for 9/11. so do we go on to label every muslims as terrorist? or doe we find ways to secure the facilities?
just coz some hackers are hacking and stealing information, do we look for our faults on system or we go on to impose bills like CISPA so we can monitor the shit out of people!!! Remmber SONY pictures ? even being a tech company they were storing passwords in plain text!!! So do we really blame hackers or the organization for putting up a shitty security!!! there are many tools used in hacking...can't believe so many websites are vulnerable of simple sql injection!!!!! AND THEN THESE STUPID ORGANIZATION WANTS HARDER LAW ON HACKING!!!!

bro if u are not that concerned about privacy!! let me remote login in to ur comp!! :D i hope u wont mind letting me see what u do !! since u are a good man who does no harm!!!

and abt torrent and seeds!! i do it all time!! i am not proud of it!! but i cant help it!! :D Sharing is caring!!!!

u know what wud be fun!! those porn sites releasing the porn search of senators!!! O.o

for me Obama saying he would veto means the bill is still not good enough!!! he wants another bill with harder laws!! :P

here's an interesting post!! i linked to washington post since u dont like GIZ

alece, thank you for your comment. You are getting me wrong. I'm neither favoring this bill wholeheartedly nor scared like hell as some of you are. The whole point of me writing things about CISPA is it simply doesn't matter to me, either be it or not. They've been doing this since ever in the name of national securities.

Remember, more and more infrastructures are being digitized. Remember how iran's nuclear structures were tampered through cyber attacks? The very same thing could happen out here to our structures. More stuffs like that are digitized every now and then and when it comes to affecting those physical structures through the means of cyber attacks, its concern remains no more in the realm of internet. It becomes the interest of national security and when it comes to national security, they'll pass this bill no matter what.

I would be happy just like you, because just because I don't have anything to hide doesn't mean I don't have anything to keep private.

I'm skeptical president obama vetoing this bill unless there is no amendment.
I'm also hopeful there will be the change of tone of this bill from ,'

"hey, we'll collect each and every information about you in case we smell cyber threats or anything like that coming out of you, and when internet companies are involved in providing informations about you, YOU netizens CAN NOT sue them, is that understood? You can sue nobody."

to

"hey, we'll collect every information about you in case we smell cyber threats or anything like that coming out of you, and when internet companies are involved in providing informations about you, YOU netizens CAN NOT sue them but if you are wrongly victimized, you'll be compensated or the accountable one be put on justice for providing wrong information " or something like that

This bill also needs to address how our information are going to be used thereafter. If they do it, I don't see anything wrong on the bill.

Dude, I feel sorry for every one of us, do you know how Google eavesdrops each and every one of us. I've personally seen them doing it. There are many others. They do it without a word. What else can we do? Most of us so tech-morons anyway.

I've already given up you know.. Just be good do good, stay out of harms way. That's all I've to say.

@bittertruth
"if you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about"-- i just dont get it...
-Suppose you walk into a grocery store and the owner keeps following you just coz he thinks that you might be trying to steal a candy even though you are a legit customer. how would that make you feel ? what if he says, "i don't think you are going to steal but you know just making sure" ? i bet you know how indians feel when they see a black guy in store!!
- how about someone following you all the time with a knife and he says, "hey i am not going to do you any harm!!!". what wud be ur response?!!!
this is a wrong approach buddy!!!
and abt the image:
looks like that guy didn't know how to view wikipedia on the blackout!!!
and about the pic above!!
here's what i think!!

i didn't even bother to watch that!!!
my point is just that nobody likes the idea of being followed or monitored, except you!!
CISPA is just not the right approach for the cyber security!!

you missed the fun then :D

btw, you are again making a wrong assumption about me.
Khai kura bujheko saathi.
I don't like being monitored as well. CISPA is nothing new,
it's same old law with little twist here and there.
I don't like it either.

If I've to vote, I'd vote against CISPA.

 1. If you think HTTP is internet, you are wrong.
 2. If you think you have a KILL SWITCH for internet, again you are wrong.

It is different autonomous systems getting together to form a network for everyone sharing content among each other. It is a very distributed system, though activists like Anonymous always argue they can take down 13 root-servers and take down the internet. False!! It is not 13 servers that scale for such massive distributed system. There are many characteristics of the Internet that is quite difficult to take down in its entirety. You might blackhole youtube from a Pakistani ISP, but not the Internet.

Corporations might think CISPA is more inclined towards security and not privacy that very much. I would agree. From a corporation point of view, they know how vulnerable the Internet has become. They would absolutely want to work with the legislators than themselves trying to defend against security.

But the bigger picture is - when laws are written there are clause(s) that can be taken advantage of. There will be some lawyer that will try to take advantage of it for their benefit. I support a secure Internet, but I also support an Open Internet.

I think this is just a beginning of the new era. Cyber threats and security is as much of a national security concern, as anything else. But there is a need to secure the fundamentals of Internet. That is connectivity, sharing and openness. We have to come to a compromise, but nobody knows for sure YET where that compromise lies.
