Very interesting topic. I wouldn't go as far as broad brushing an entire community because most generalizations are easy to poke holes into and the answers you come up will often get you only as far as the next hole in the generalization.

Sure immigration can cause dislocation - mental, emotional and social. And the dislocation gets aggravated when the values of the society you born into come into conflict with the values of the society that you are now a part of. A lot of people cope with a situation like this by putting their own personal values ahead of everything else and it works for many of them. To me it matters less whether you see yourself as Nepalese or American, or both, or neither, the important thing is are you at peace with whatever it is that you see yourself as? If yes, you probably don't have a reason to read this thread, but if no, why not? How many of those reasons have to do with reality and how many of those reasons could be misplaced perceptions? Does it then help if one at least tackle the mis perceptions?

All right, enough said. My intent is not to point fingers or prescribe any thing - I am merely raising the questions I ask myself when I have to deal with something like this.

I have never understood this phenomenon either. Something in me aches for nepal but something in me is so happy to be so far away from Nepalese and my relatives specially. But, regarding backbiters i think we are far behind than other people in the world.

never lived in nepali community and i have been here for like 7 years but i know i would hate it cuz no offence i hate nepalese who come to US they jus turn into jerks including my cousin well one of em and that is the reason i go after american girls too lol never went out with a nepali girl except in nepal

Nepali theto is damn right. Our folks r indeeed overly nosey. So quick at pulling up all the details including and not terminating @ how someone takes a shit in the bathroom. Just give that extra space to ppl who want it. Leave 'em alone unless u r asked to approach.

Every community is like ours. Difference is language, tone and the way they presents.
There are all types of character in every country and community. Nepalese are straightforward. But not different than other communities. Sometimes I miss my expression when I can't speak my mother language and need to force myself to translate in english. Actually I like my Nepal and community. But sometimes feel difficult to deal with people. It is same here and there, everywhere.
