Hey guys!! What do u think about cloning in general and Reproductive (esp. Human) cloning in particular? I think with the available technology u can clone a human? How about cloning Bill Clinton, Mandela or in the other hand cloning Bin Laden, Bush. May be we can think about cloning GBBS, Paras, Prachanda, GP and MKN and of course our great PM SBD????? Well, cloning them would be worthy in any sense?

Note: I don't know if this topic is being discussed before in Sajha!

So far I only know two types of cloning that have been experimented. The first one at genetic, cellular and tissue level which is not intended to create a clone individual and the other one is to create an individual. For there are both advantages and disadvantages to cloning, I still think this technology should carry on. What can be done will be done? I think it is useful in understanding diff diseases and its treatments, creating organ tissue reservers, in creating children for individuals and I guess for immortalization of self.

Cloning researches leads us to greater understanding of the cellular life cycle, like to know why cells divide. IF somebody has cancer n it needs to be treated first of all it becomes necessary to know why and how cancerous cells mutate and uncontrollably divides into millions. So basically it is important in the manipulation of curing n preventing diseases. N cloning is also helpful in neuroscience to give us the understanding of why spinal cord tissue, brain tissue n heart muscles do not regenerate after injury. And

I think none of the people yu mentioned above should be cloned. The one i wanted to be cloned is not in the list.

so more later.......

I don't have a vast knowledge on science like what some of the pplz who wrote in this thread does....but still what i would like to say is that cloning is fine so long we human know where our limit is....we should not try to play GOD....and interrupt the eco system of the nature...Anyway thanks alot for all the information regarding the cloning....it was really very knowledgeable....cheers.

Hey, Indisguise, u are hilarious....but for a while u did make me ponder on the issue....coz me also ardent fan of Ashwary Rai...heheheheheh...

Ok lemme try to move back to the topic;

I have two concerns with this type of research (both cloning and stem cell research):

1. Western society is already obsessed with''perfection". Down this road of research lies the ability to produce "perfect" offspring. This will, in my opinion, serve only to further increase the division between "haves" and "have-nots". For an hypothetical example, look at Nancy Kress' award-winning novel Beggars in Spain, which is about a generation of humans engineered not to need sleep and the resultant conflict between them and the rest of humanity. While this science has the potential to benefit humanity, I believe it will also be misused for personal gain, opening up a whole new world of societal problems.

2. Diversity is key to the survival of species. This concept is altogether lost on those who would use cloning technology to make us all better and more similar. Again, a more far-future problem, but a problem nonetheless.

Having said that....

I recall i am not against this type of research. Let's face it, it's going to happen anyway. In the past few years Western governments tried to put the brakes on, and as we now see, the Koreans went ahead and did the research anyway. Better, in my opinion, to charge ahead in full public view, and with the resources of the Western world, than to let all the advances happen outside any transparent scope of examination.

I'm a firm believer that if you decide to go with scientific advancement (as a culture), then you should go all the way. Ditch the luddites, as it were. Scientific advancement has brought us a lot, from good (pennicillin) to the bad (nuclear weapons). With every new advance we have the potential to solve problems or create more. Instead of shying away from it in order to avoid the bad, we should support research and hope for the good.

Have your say.

If eugenics is a possibility, it'll come from Asian nations. Europe is too egalitarian, and America is too religious. Asians don't give a flying fvck about moral values, they just wanna rule the roost. This is one reason, IMHO, that the decadent West(not my own words) will lose to Asian nations like Japan and China in the long haul. So before sh1t hits the ceiling, America and Europe will need to wise up, get their acts straight, and ditch religion as well as political correctness, both of which are anti-progress, that MIGHT hurt innovation. Instead of putting the pedal to metal with respect to stem cell research and going full speed ahead, BushCo. with his obstinate streak, has managed to bring progress to a complete hault in this regard. Now supposedly 30% of Americans identify themselves as evangelicals, among which 70% favored Bush over Kerry. So it's obvious that they're a powerful force in American politics to be reckoned with.
As regards to cloning humans, reaching that goal will take a long time. In the United States, if I am correct, human cloning research has been banned. Same in many Western nations. I don't know how it is in Asian nations though, but I bet my bottom dollar that they'll be the vangards in cloning research.

THIS ACTUALLY STARTED OUT AS A GOOD THREAD BUT SOME PEOPLE JUST CAN'T GET THAT AND STARTED TO SHOW THE PRODUCT OF THEIR BRAINLESS MIND BY WRITING UNNECESSARY STUFF. IF U DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT CLONING DON'T REPLY IN THIS THREAD OK . MORONS
I THINK THE BEST WAY TO CLONE WOULD BE USING EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS. IF WE CAN JUST GROW THEM ARTIFICALLY IN VITRO ..... THAT WOULD JST BE AWESOME

HERE IS WHAT I WROTE ABOUT STEM CELLS FOR ONE OF MY CLASS

Bhattu
Stem cells are primal, undifferentiated cells that can form any cells in the body. Basically there are two types of stem cells; the embryonic stem cell and the adult stem cell. Embryonic stem cells are derived from the blastocyst (future fetus). A four day old zygote contains cells that can later develop into any of the 220 kinds of cells that make up the human body. Adult stem cell is found in all adult human being. Adult stem cells are undifferentiated cells that reproduce daily to produce certain specialized cells; for example adult skin stem cell give rise to skin cell(1). The embryonic stem cell can be harvested in laboratory and artificially made to produce the different kinds of cells. These cells can then be injected into an injured human to cure for the injury. For example stem cells can be differentiated into heart muscle cells and injected into heart of patient suffering from heart attack(1). The cells repair the injured heart muscle and replace them producing a healthy heart. This experiment has been successfully carried out in lab animals but has yet to be tested in humans. Transplant of embryonic stem cells have enabled animals that suffered spinal-cord injuries to move legs and partially support their body weight (2).
Adult stem cells as said earlier are cells that are undifferentiated and are usually dormant. They are activated by disease or tissue injury. Till now the adult tissues reported to contain stem cells include brain, bone marrow, peripheral blood, blood vessels, skeletal muscle, skin and liver(3). But these cells only produce specific kind of cells i.e. blood stem cell would only produce blood cells. Blood forming adult stem cell from bone marrow has been used in treatment for as long as 30 years (3).
Researchers are still pushing for embryonic stem cells because embryonic stem cells have the potential to develop into any kind of cell whereas adult stem cell only develops into certain specific cells. Also adult stem cells are slow growing so the amount needed for treatment is not sufficiently produced. Whereas embryonic stem cells proliferate readily and vast quantities can be produced.
But there is a great debate surrounding the use of embryonic stem cells. The pro-lifers and hardcore Catholics oppose the research because they think it?s killing the embryo. But the stem cells are only taken out from embryos that have been rejected in the fertility clinic and that are bound to be destroyed anyway. President George Bush has allowed for federal grants for research involving the existing embryonic cell lines. But researchers say that is not enough. There is already 60 genetically diverse stem cell line in existence. Even the religious right wings are divided in this issue. Some believe an embryo is a new life and shouldn?t be killed while others say an embryo developed outside of womb in a lab can?t be called a genuine fetus.
Me I believe that stem cell research should be undertaken at any cost. It may not cure all the diseases but this is purely a quest for knowledge and I don?t see any point in arguing about the life of the embryo that is going to be thrown away anyway. Better use it in research for betterment of humanity than to throw it away.

And while you are still here, lemme say a not so well prepared farewell speech to you [ aba tapai sanga speech classes na liye pachi yestai jpt lekhna aucha ]

Idieguise, first of all thanks a lot for reading each and every post of mine with so much dedication and concentration and obsession remembering each and every word I say so that you can mention it in other threads as well.Awwww......I am NOW aware, this whole passion abt following me in Sajha STRAINS [sajha threads] and yapping , simply STEMS from the fact that I refused to acknowledge you after sum days of talking to you SUM MONTHS ago.
Konngratulaschions to you today ! Mission of making meh reply to you has been accomplished. [ HAJUR LAI ATEE NAI BHAYECHA BHANERA REPLY GARDI HALEKO NI AJA ] *Grins*

Hmmm...such dedication I have NOT seen * a round of applause*. But sweetheart, why can't you get it in your ORIGINAL, INTELLIGENT,DEDICATED HARD-WORKING brain , that I can't simply be bothered to talk to you ?
Or maybe I just prefer to date my cadavers who I find more stimulating than you? Or maybe I prefer to sing in my own bathroom OR with my band/solo in sano tino/thulo masino , sumtimes in the biggest concert in the history of Nepal ?? [ its another thing that I refuse to sing in each and every opportunity that comes my way due to my own reasons,..kyarnu afu ta alchi eeestupit pariyo, hajur jasto sabai opportunity ko faida uthauna nasakney....sachi singing classes pani lina aunu parla baru hajur sanga, malai khasai ramro gauna ta audai na but I try... ]

Anywayz, afno barnan ko lagi dhanyabad.Aba most BEAUTIFUL guy in Sajha imagine garda I shall imagine a non-golmatol, non dalle tall na tall, seto na seto, middle size eyes bhayeko IndieguiseE mitra. * Smiles*
