I had promised that I was going to start my own thread regarding stock investments and the markets. So many things have happened since last time I was here and I really do not feel like sharing my knowledge. But a promise is a promise and there have been few people that have emailed me and supported me.

This thread will deal with investing in the stock markets. I will not discuss individual stocks but discuss ETFs like SPY, DIA, IWM and QQQQ. The one good thing about trading ETFs compared to individual stocks is the the ETFs provide instant diversification among similar companies within the same sector.

I will post more as we go along, regarding entry-price, profit-target and stop-losses. I do not think that any ETF is good or bad. It is good only if I'm making money and bad if I'm losig money.

If you have not been in the market so far, please read this as an information piece only rather than my recommendations. There is risk involved and you should know how much risk to take on any position.

Any suggestations, comments and criticisms are welcome as long as it is market related. If this thread gets out of hand and we start discussing off-topics, I'll stop posting.

Have a happy new year!!!! May 2007 bring you and your family lots of joys and riches.

I have one question, individual share acts differently then whole index such as nasdaq. I mean there will some ups and some downs for avearage up and down. How does this index significantly effect the individual stock?

ESLR and SIGA recovered my yeserday's loss. I was expecting the same from ASTI but it didn't perform that well today.I am still keeping ASTI, SIGA and ELTR.

Aman: Index is just a group of individual stocks. You'll need to look at the corelation between the stocks and the index. For example, QQQQ which is composed of the 100 tech stocks will have more of a positive corelation to INTC than to SIGA.

If an index is down, it could be because majority of the stocks in the index are down or some of the stocks that are weighted heavily are down huge. I usually track the index because it tells me how on average nist of the stocks are doing, Then I can drill down and find individual stocks to buy or sell.

It is said that 75% of the stocks go up or down with the market. So, in a bull market if you were to buy 4 stocks just by random chance 3 of the 4 will go up. In a bear market a company could be relly good and still not go up in price because of the general conditions.

Here are my picks:

CVDT
HAYZ
APKT

You know the drill. Put these on your watchlist. Buy it after the 1st half-hour only if the price goes above the half-hour high.

Stop will be below the low of the day.

CVDT is a bulletin board stock, so be very careful. If you want to buy very small osition and gamble, then it is okay.

NYT reporting that Blackstone is going to buy SLM. When you hear a buyout of a company by private funds, it is a good idea to buy it's competitors.

Here is my pick: NNI.

I didnt' go through all the posts in this topic, but I would like to suggest using Sharebuilder.com if you want to start out small. You can invest any amount you want, so you can practice doing that before you invest big.

E ji,

CVDT is no longer CVDT, but CVDT.OB... and of course it is going up on the first hour.

Good forecast.

also, I like your correction on my short-comings regarding jargon in the trade. Reciprocally speaking, is there a website where I cud get some cool jargons to update myself? Would be much appreciated.

Looks like market is not in the mood to think too much over the week-end. Am seeing lots of reds. Hmm.

Best~!

yep, but I see lots of fluctuations. At any rate E ji, has been bang on monies when it comes to logic part. He cannot dictate the big guns, but he can understand them well.

Kudos to that!

Cheers!

Netfreak, Bri: I'm happy that it is working for you and you are making money. I had the 2nd best day today this year. Pretty happy about it. Taking the rest of the day off and enjoying the weekend.

Guess, what a 2nd best day looks like? Sorry, I'm being a little arrogant here.

That's not all mine. I have to share it with our investors and 2 partners. My goal is to be a millionaire before I turn 30. I don't know if it will happen because there is 6 months left and I'm taking the summer off.

Yeah, it's true that I don't drink, unless it is some good wine to celebrate something special.

hmmm, that is even better. Two uptakes on that being;

you are a third party. Meaning you look at monies not emotionally as an investor, although you are also responsible for it.

Whether you turn Millionaire by 30 or after, is just a number game again. I look at it saying, you will make one sooner or later. But what with all those monies, is something you will hafto readdress at some point of time in your life; i,e when you feel you have reached there where they say you are over fear and greed.

Yes, a French wine would suffice. Possibly bottle of 20s or 40s. Depending on which WW you liked. hahaha.. Just kidding. I can suggest some.

Ani, Post MBA is just a jargon overstated. It is the years after you finish your MBA. Which is bull-horn for most part. I think you beat the MBAs with your insight.

All the best!
