hello all sajhaties,

this is my attempt to cure some of our ICC Cricket World cup fever by playing online version of World Cup cricket (to the one who doesnt like cricket: do not worry it will not consist of too many rules and it certainly wont take your whole day either)....it will be more like of a prediction game ....the similar to what we earlier did during NFL...i was highly impressed y it and huge number of responses...i can only hope it will be the same for WC Cricket

...so here is what is in store for the game:

PREDICTION MODEL

You must predict:

1. The game outcome (team 1 win, team 2 win or draw)

2. The margin of victory (i.e. runs difference AND wickets difference*)

* In cricket the judge of victory is determined by the coin toss, and as we won't know until each game starts how the victory will be determined, you must pick both options.

Points are awarded as follows:

Win Point (WP) 1.0 (for round robin, Super 8), 2 (for semi-finals), and 3 (for the final)

Margin Point (MP) 0.5
(A Margin Point will be awarded to every player whose margin prediction is within 30 runs of the real run margin or 3 wickets of the real wicket margin. You must correctly predict the winner of the game in order to qualify for a Margin Point.)

Bonus Point (BP) 1.0 Scored by player(s) whose margin prediction(s) is/are the closest to the actual margin. Each if the players will get 1 whol epoint point in case of ties. Once again, you must get the game outcome right (i.e. earn a WP) in order to qualify for BP.

i didn't make it too completed, did i ?

I will provide the scoreboard (which will be in an Excel spreadsheet, remember its online version we are playing) every week on saturdays after the saturday's game outcome

so, we ready for the toss?

P.S. There will be a 'trophy' for the winner ...the more the number of players, the bigger the trophy. It's a promise that wil lbe kept.

Result of Game 2:

New Zealand 263/8 (50 ov)
Ireland 134 (37.4 ov)

New Zealand won by 129 runs

"The bearded Vettori comes up with a yorker to wrap up a big win."

Someone had a question, "will Vettori be on a Hat-trick for the next NZ match, since he took two wickets in last two balls of the match ?"
Answer:Nope. It doesn't carry on to the next game.

Coming up tomorrow: South Africa v West Indies. Hopefully, it will be a cracker of a contest.

Drifting clouds,

ok your requeted changed has been honored. BUT you still haven't replied your prediction for New Zealand v Sri Lanka ...your answer is invalid.

and as for your question regarding providing more points for Super Eights ..its a good idea....but its too late, and we had already decided in the beginng that supereights will have same points as round robin but semi finals and finals will weight double and triple points respectively...soo good luck there...and we always don't play to win, do we?...sometimes we play just to get the feel of game

some 'interesting' pics there bidhan40...thanks for sharing

Result of Game 3:

South Africa 356/4 (50 ov)
West Indies 289/9 (50 ov)

South Africa won by 67 runs

"South Africa now have six points, they're fourth in the table and it means West Indies are all-but-out of it and they will need South Africa to lose both matches."

Result of Game 4:

Bangladesh 143 (37.2 ov)
England 147/6 (44.5 ov)

England won by 4 wickets (with 31 balls remaining)

"Well, England win the match but hardly cover themselves with glory, while Bangladesh again underline that they are in the Super Eights on merit. The England dressing-room look relieved more than jubilant. "

Result of Game 5:

New Zealand 219/7 (50 overs)
Sril Lanka 222/4 (45.1 0vers)

Sril Lanka won by 6 wickets.

"Pretty clinical from Sri Lanka. No drama, no urge to indulge in showmanship. No frantic hitting. There was no need. 220 was not a stiff target and they jogged home. Two more points. New Zealand have tasted defeat for the first time in the tournament."

Ranatunga, sitting in a television studio, is not quite thrilled with the way SL approached the chase. " I am a bit disappointed with the way they played. They should have struck to their usual aggressive game." He would have liked to see the likes of Jayasuriya playing more aggressively. Well.... you can't please everyone.

Result of Game 6:

Ireland 91 (30 ov)
Australia 92/1 (12.2 ov)

Australia won by 9 wickets (with 226 balls remaining)

"Well, that was sadly predictable. But, my, Australia said they were going all out for the win, and they didn't make any mistake in doing so. They may have tinkered with their batting order, but sending Hussey and Symonds for some practice proved a good decision. Thanks for joining us today, do return tomorrow when New Zealand take on South Africa."

Result of Game 7:

South Africa 193/7 (50 ov)
New Zealand 196/5 (48.2 ov)

New Zealand won by 5 wickets (with 10 balls remaining)

"McMillan stayed there til the end, unbeaten on 38 to add to his three key wickets. New Zealand beat South Africa by five wickets to seal their place in the crucial round coming up. They won the toss, and having come unstuck themselves batting first in St George's against Sri Lanka, opted to field first. It paid off on a difficult batting strip, as Bond and Franklin wasted little time with the new ball. Gibbs and Prince added 76 in 17 overs, but it was the gamble of bringing on McMillan that hammered in South Africa's fate. Chasing 194, New Zealand were sluggish, but Fleming played a dour captain's innings and then that man Styris added another World Cup fifty. And yes, no surprises, McMillan is the Man of the Match."

Probably this week we played some of the most difficult games here at Sajha World Cup 2007. The matches between big guns made it very hard to predict. And the score by the end of WEEK 5 says it all !

This was the week for sa54 where he played some wonderful innings and went home with 4 'man of the matches' including a hatrick from game 2 to 4.

The other player to watch this week was Tusaro. If you remember, he had just climbed to 3rd spot last week pushing amanush to 4th spot by a narrow margin of 0.5. This week he has climbed another spot to be crowned with 2nd position to upset test005. Born_to_rule probably will have some sleepless nights this week ! 3 duck outs for born_to_rule this week might cost arms and legs next week.

So, here I present you the total Result by the end of WEEK 5:

Well last week was quite good for me but I dont think "I will have milk and rice" all the time. But its nice to see so many of us fighting very hard for the semi final place. very close contest indeed. May be I have peaked too early - now only slump in form is possible. You cant be hitting centuries every game.

Iwould have prefer to bat at no 6/7 as a slogger but today I have to go at no 3 and dont know if i can face the new ball. sa54 and hi_nanu please try to stay there until the power plays are over

This week will be difficult to predict too because of many teams either out or already in the semis. There will be no pressure and any team can win the matches that do not have much importance.

Here is what I have quickly come up with, might have to change later if things change dramatically - Apr 17 is the key.

1. Sunday, April 15: Bangladesh v Ireland --> Bangladesh by 40 runs or 4 Wickets
2. Monday, April 16: Australia v Sri Lanka --> Australia 45 runs or 5 wickets
3. Tuesday, April 17: England v South Africa --> South Africa 30 runs or 4 Wickets
4. Wednesday, April 18: Ireland v Sri Lanka --> Sri Lanka by 95 runs or 7 wickets
5. Thursday, April 19: West Indies v Bangladesh --> West Indies by 45 runs or 6 wickets
6. Friday, April 20: Australia v New Zealand --> Australia 60 runs or 5 wickets
7. Saturday, April 21: West Indies v England --> England by 30 runs or 4 wickets
