hello all sajhaties,

this is my attempt to cure some of our ICC Cricket World cup fever by playing online version of World Cup cricket (to the one who doesnt like cricket: do not worry it will not consist of too many rules and it certainly wont take your whole day either)....it will be more like of a prediction game ....the similar to what we earlier did during NFL...i was highly impressed y it and huge number of responses...i can only hope it will be the same for WC Cricket

...so here is what is in store for the game:

PREDICTION MODEL

You must predict:

1. The game outcome (team 1 win, team 2 win or draw)

2. The margin of victory (i.e. runs difference AND wickets difference*)

* In cricket the judge of victory is determined by the coin toss, and as we won't know until each game starts how the victory will be determined, you must pick both options.

Points are awarded as follows:

Win Point (WP) 1.0 (for round robin, Super 8), 2 (for semi-finals), and 3 (for the final)

Margin Point (MP) 0.5
(A Margin Point will be awarded to every player whose margin prediction is within 30 runs of the real run margin or 3 wickets of the real wicket margin. You must correctly predict the winner of the game in order to qualify for a Margin Point.)

Bonus Point (BP) 1.0 Scored by player(s) whose margin prediction(s) is/are the closest to the actual margin. Each if the players will get 1 whol epoint point in case of ties. Once again, you must get the game outcome right (i.e. earn a WP) in order to qualify for BP.

i didn't make it too completed, did i ?

I will provide the scoreboard (which will be in an Excel spreadsheet, remember its online version we are playing) every week on saturdays after the saturday's game outcome

so, we ready for the toss?

P.S. There will be a 'trophy' for the winner ...the more the number of players, the bigger the trophy. It's a promise that wil lbe kept.

Nice job Hi-nanu - you actually got three amazing guesses last time around. great!

Here are my guesses for this week. I am going with Srilanka in both matches. Hope Murali does the magic.

1. Sunday, April 1: West Indies v Sri Lanka ....>Srilanka by 40 runs or 5 wickets
2. Monday, April 2: Bangladesh v New Zealand ....>New Zealand by 80 runs or 5 wickets
3. Tuesday, April 3: Ireland v South Africa...>South Africa by 95 runs or 7 wickets
4. Wednesday, April 4: England v Sri Lanka....>Sri Lanka by 50 runs or 5 wickets
5. Saturday, April 7: Bangladesh v South Africa....>South Africa by 85 runs or 4 wickets

Bangladesh and Ireland are so predictable. its either everyone gets points or none. I wish there were India and Pakistan.

Hopefully there will be some upsets

thank you, thank you and thank you test005, Sa54 ad tusaro for you picks for this week...you guys are playing strong like the Super Eights itself...keep hanging tight guys

...seems like its only me supporting West Indies today huuh?...oh well, its the different opinions that make a horse racing popular right?

i agree with you tusaro...i miss India and Pakistan in super eights too...it would have been more competitive and fun with their presence ...but with that said, lets not count our chickens before they hatch ...Ireland has already shown some promises from the game with England ...i wouldn't be completely surprised if we see some upsets in super eights

Result of Game 1 for WEEK 4:

Sri Lanka 303/5 (50 ov)
West Indies 190 (44.3 ov)

Sri Lanka won by 113 runs

"Jayasuriya's ton - and Sri Lanka's enthusiasm - proved a big difference there, with Sri Lanka racing to victory. West Indies' high point was when they took two early wickets; from then on it was all Sri Lanka. This could spell the end of West Indies' World Cup hopes - technically they're still in the competition, but on the evidence of their recent games, they're not looking cohesive, nor a well-oiled unit.

Sri Lanka deserve their victory, let's take nothing away from them."

Result of Game 2:

Bangladesh 174 (48.3 ov)
New Zealand 178/1 (29.2 ov)

New Zealand won by 9 wickets (with 124 balls remaining)

"Another professional performance from New Zealand. Another win. Two more points in the kitty. Six in total. Tough opposition awaits them though. Australia, Sri Lanka and South Africa. Hopefully.... we will get to see some tough contests."

Result of Game 3:

Ireland 152/8 (35/35 ov)
South Africa 165/3 (31.3/35 ov)

South Africa won by 7 wickets (with 21 balls remaining) (D/L method)

"Well, an emphatic shot(a superb six!) in which to bring up a win - and, in spite of a relatively cautious last few overs by South Africa, it was a fair walk in the park for them. Ireland were, as they have been all tournament, courageous and never gave up."

Result of Game 4:

Sri Lanka 235 (50 ov)
England 233/8 (50.0 ov)

Sri Lanka won by 2 runs

"Well, this has been excellent stuff from Sri Lanka, holding their nerve, bowling well and that's a great match and they deserve the win. Good batting from Nixon and Bopara, sneaking up on the outside and taking England close, but with no cigar. There will be some consolation, though, as the defeat is so narrow, it won't have much of a detrimental effect on their net run rate if it comes down to it.

This is the kind of match the tournament's been crying out for. A fantabulous game."

This has been a wonderful week of cricket.

We got to see one of the best games of the world cup where England despite getting 9 runs in the last over couldn't get the needed 3 runs in the last ball and lost to Sri Lanka by 2 runs, and then today we saw the world ranked 9th bangladeshi young team beating mighty number 1 South African by unexpected margin of 67 runs.

Going with the flow, here in sajha world cup, hi_nanu played another fine knock of consecutive 3 'man of the matches' this week by stealing all possible points in game 2, 3 and 4...she has done this 2nd week in a row....congratulations.

also, tusaro has climbed to third spot leaving amanush to 4th position by a narrow margin of 0.5

So, here is the Result of the Sajha World Cup after end of WEEK 4:
