Back in the days, AVM (Adarsh Vidya Mandir) used to be the default top school with most of the SLC board toppers but there would be some gangs or hooligans where we would fight with our brothers from the Jawalakhel St.Xaviers. They would come to our school and fight and break our windows while we would do the same. I suppose it lasted a few years but it was a matter of school pride for us. I believe most of the students back then now hold top jobs in banks and the ones that came to US are successful too. After some time, i guess other schools like Budhanilk took in the talented students.

Share some stories of school rivalries in Nepal

AVM vs Vanasthali was top rivals when it came to gang fight.
Gyanodaya vs St.Xavier's in Basketball (Coyne BB League) although nobody could beat Lincoln school.
Vanasthali vs rest of the schools for SLC board toppers

The basketball rivalry was something to behold during those days. There was a urban legend that GBBS team who lost to xavier's in the finals purposely stayed in grade 10 for another year to avenge their defeat. haha! I think it was because GBBS team was simply bigger and stronger than the Xavier puny players. But when it came to skills on the court, Xavier's was much better.

Army school was pretty good at football (Birendra shield) and then later it was Galaxy school with their junior ANFA team members

Anyway

St.Xavier's vs Budhanilkantha (Boka school rivalry)
St.Mary's vs Triyog (Bakhri school rivalry, I heard they had competition at who would say "chyaaa" the most and who could talk NepEnlgish combo the most)

those were pretty big back in the day

Haha. Are you sure about your "was" bit? From my knowledge, they have the most dominant soccer team winning almost about every competition they've entered including recent National level football shields (two years in a row).

Do you guys even remember these two events?
AVM vs. St. Xavier Jawalakhel - 1990
AVM vs. Vanasthali - 1991.

Man.. if there will be any histroy written in shcool gang fight in nepal.. these two would top the list. It was scary where whole district police has to involve to break out the fight..which was like war..with everything except fire arms. The rest of the schools then copied them.

@Khairey..........
AVM vs Xaviers......AVM attacked Xaviers school, vandalize Xaviers school.

AVM vs Vanasthali... Vanasthalian used their school bus to commute , attacked AVM, vandalize property worth of Lakhs if not crores. Few of the Vanathalian got arrested too. Those days Vanasthalian were well known for gunda gardi . I have seen them fighting wherever they attend inter school function.

AVM vs Lab....students from Lab went on rampage at AVM, barged into the classroom, beat up AVM students.

AVM vs. St. Xavier Jawalakhel - 1990
AVM vs. Vanasthali - 1991.

I still don't know what was the reason for that big fight. I know vanasthali went to AVM with their 6 or 7 school bus fleet, attacked school premises and even neighbors buildings and vehicles. Large corn field just infront of AVM was flattened by too many polices and Vanasthalians. Before that I heard AVM went to one of Vanasthali bus stop and brutally beat up the whole students on that bus.

And with St. Xaviers Jawalakhel, I heard police had to even fire several rounds of tear gas.

Most of those involved in fighting are in their late 30's to early 40's now. Not sure what they are doing now.

Khairey,

The reason was innocuous like all gangfights. AVM bus passed by Xavier's. "Few Romeos" (who later got expelled) from Xavier's took a cheap shot at some of their pretty damsels :), the rest as we know it, is history. Do we need a valid reason for such fights in Nepal?

Mayur bro, when it came to SLC no other school came close to Vanasthali, epically from late 80's to mid 90's.  I remember that 1991 incident.  I was on 8th grade and few guys from 9 and 10 grade came to our class screaming something like few of our students (vanasthali) were attacked by AVM student.  All of the suddent we ran outside, got into one of the school bus which drove to AVM and started vandalizing the school.  Man those were some time, no fear of what so ever...I also remember during the andalon of 1990 Vanasthali student beat the crap out of some police who came with just stick and tear gas…

Having Spend my entire school life at Vanasthali I have to agree with Chaurea that it was more like gundruk khadya school, way too many students with no sports at all, but still had the best 10 years of my life there.

Sanju.baba, you have to give credit to internet, video game and the technology for that.  Also, when we say good times it’s not all about beating kids and fighting...it’s the memory..good memories from our teenage days.

I am not sure how anyone can label these memories as good memories. I was from Little Angel's and heard that a twin named Luv and Kus were the main ones getting into gang fights. Apparently one of them had a hammer nailed into his head.
Beating up people and causing harm can in no way be good. Now that we have grown up and can look back to our stupidity or simply cruelty, we should recognize them as such and not label our childhood memories as being good. Put yourselves into those who were beaten up badly or even stabbed and changed their life and that of their parents forever.
