In my point of view....

I studied some Mahabharat materials and sources..

Yes, I believe that Mahabharat war was actual “First World War” and it’s happened in ancient time. BUT… there was not TRUE that Rawan flying, Hanuman flying like in Mahabharat Hindi low quality movie. Hanuman was not a monkey but Hanuman was a native indigenous jungle tribe man.

There were lots of indigenous tribes killed in that First World War where they came from many countries and joined for the world war.

Mahabharat was happen but you must brush up Hindi Maharat movie. Otherwise you live/think/believe stupid things but not actual true ancient history.

JUST DO NOT FOLLOW STUPID LOW QUALITY HINDI MAHABHARAT MOVIE.

Jhyamma haannu jasto

Mahabharat is a stupid low quality movie re

When Hanuman starts flying in Mahabharat, when Rawan starts pulling dropadi's sari in Mahabharat of course it becomes stupid, haha

Bro, Mahabharat was the biggest hit epic ever when it was released and to date too.

Regarding its actuality, well there are lots of evidences that it happened. Of course so called animated thing may not have happened, but the story, the war is said to be happened. Even Nepal ma tyo bela kiran bansha rajya thiyo re and kirat banshi raja harule army pathko thiyo re kuruchhetra war ma. I had studied once in our history about that.

P.S. Please don't make Indrajit (Meghnad) come and fight with Arjun hai at least.

Some archeologists and historians believe that the world goes thru different 'yugs'. Every yug however goes through destruction, at the end of which, civilization has to begin again. Mahabharat itself could be a tale of one of those civilizations that existed once upon a very long time. However, a lot of stories within the mahabharat need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Archeological expeditions have found palaces buried deep within the grounds with artifacts purported to be from the mahabharat times. Some religious theorists believe that during that time, people had mastered the art of spiritual science hence the technology depicted during that time could have been possible. Even radioactive remains have been found in the surrounding kurukshetra region of india pointing perhaps to a nuclear warfare.

Even the epic of Ramayana with it's unbelievable army of man and monkey may actually have some truth in that a race different than indians were considered to be the monkeys. If you look at some pictures of George Bush it's not that hard to believe why.

The TV show is far from fact. the underlying story in Vagwat Geeta and Mahabharat might have been true, but not all the details.
These epics spans through generations, from first king Manu to Pandavas. No one person (say Ved Vyas) could have witnessed and written down such a story. It has also been hypothesized that the phrase "Ved Vyas" was a title for storywriter. There could have been several Ved Vyas covering different generations (assuming the epics are based on fact). It is very likely that the actual story was exaggerated.
Talking about archeological evidence, they have found Dwarika burried under a town in Gujrat. Not 1 not 2 but 10 of them burried, one on top of another. !!! suggesting several cycles of civilization and destruction.

Gauleketo,

I am glad you asked this question, because there are stupids like BirajSharma who make pronouncements without any underlying basis, and some people believe such pronouncements and the whole saga get distorted.

So,regarding your question of whether Mahabharata war actually happened, the answer is yes. It is a historical document. However, it was written over time, written probably several times, and several stuffs in it are probably untrue. But there is no denying that a war of epic proportion happened in Delhi about five thousand years ago--and that the kings of Hastinapur (i.e. near Delhi these days) wielded such power in Indian subcontinent that kings from around the subcontinent took part in it--a total of 4 million armies (18 akshyauhini) fought with each other for 18 days until everything was over. People involved in the war were great men of their time, good people were in both sides, but make no mistake, one side was evil and the other side was good.

Mahabharata survived for other substories and philosophies within it. The most famous of which is Srimadbhagabat Gita. Bidur's idea of how a state should be run is enshrined in Bidurniti, and Bhishma's ideas of how to govern a country are recorded in shantiparba as he tells these things to Yudhisthir. The book is a fountain of knowledge, and it served as a guide to generations.

Here is one beautiful example: Gorkhalis often claimed that they fought Dharmayuddha--a war that is not fought in the night, and after the war, you give back the bodies of fallen soldier without harming them. If you read the English writers describing England-Nepal war, you see this was exactly how they fought. While in countries such as Afganisthan, after a white soldier was fallen, the Afgans used to cut his genitals and put it in his mouth, dismember part of his bodies, steal shoes, in Nepal, Gorkhalis used to start the war in the morning, and in the evening, both sides used to exchange the corpse. The way British saw it, in the whole world, they didn't see such spirit of war.

Pire seems to have a lot of knowledge on the subjectmatter. I agree with most of what Pire has to say. The last paragraph about Gorkhali (which I think applies to all Nepali) sure makes us feel proud.
however I disagree on this one line from Pire: "..... good people were in both sides, but make no mistake, one side was evil and the other side was good."

I disagree because, the bad guy of ramayan - Ravan is worshipped in Sri Lanka. He has written beautiful poem praising Shiva which is still sang at Pashupatinath. He might have done a lot of evil but I dont think labeling him or any one side of mahabharata as evil.
Yes the stories and TV series present these people as evil. I disagree to them because I think there is good and evil in everyone.

Generally speaking the bad guys of the history has been the ones who lost. Hitler, Stalin, Saddam, Ravan, and Duryodhan were all loosers. If they had won the war somehow we would have read pages and pages of how great those folks were.

About Mahabharat, i believe that the incident actually happened because it is ancient history more than an epic. If you believe in Greek Civilization you would believe in Indian Sub Continent civilization as well. I am sure lots of Mahabharat contents are fabricated and written in a way to please the kings. Such as bringing a new wife home and getting welcomed by the old wife.

Neverthless a great Epic and kudos for Vyas to bring it to us.

i think the story of mahabharat is pretty much one sided... may be someone  wrote the story to please the winning side  hoping to gain something out  of them..putting duryodhan on the bad light...i think the war did happen..though!

Nope, Mahabharat is about Philosophy with ornaments of a grand story. It can be interpreted as art or philosophy. That's how they did it back then in South Asia. I believe the main point was philosophy no doubt but I would not be surprised if both art and philosophy were given equal weight.

dont exactly agree with Birajsharma... If I were a king[of equivalent power] i wud've sentenced u to death.

back to topic... talking about evidence and facts, think about Da Vinci Code... lots of facts used to make a fiction!! mahabharat might be same as well.

talking about "low quality hindi movie" what better way to deliver the events than how they've done.. to make children glued to the tv screen, make it funny and witty at the same time. without those animations, it wud've been another epic "kabhi saas bhi baru the" or something like that.

at sexyinsari...leave ur guleketo.. i will give it a try..haha
