TGIF! Hope everyone is doing well. Time's flying by pretty quick. Tihar is almost around the corner. Speaking of which I hope everyone had a nice Dashain celebration. For those students stuck in what seems like the middle of nowhere. Enjoy life within the four walls of the college if that's what you have right now, while you can. College is definitely the best time in life yet we tend to want to complain about it tirelessly. Being human we can't be satisfied with anything can we? Well, at least we can try.

I had been meaning to add this small feature in sajha which would have meant a lot as far as retaining lot of great writers in sajha. I have to blame nothing else but myself for being lazy enough to not think it through and implement it. Because of my lazyness of sorts, sajha has lost or has been missing a lot of brilliant writers. Many new members have not had the opportunity to reading from many great writers who have taken a leave of absense from sajha.

I'm hoping it's not a permanent leave, and I hope users like yourself can help bring them back. Writers like sajha gazer, ashu, john galt, sitara, juggy, sum_off, amber, nk, najar, isolated freak, lot of whom are from long time back and only a few of you oldies may remember them. In fact there are many others and I hope you can help me in filling up those names. In any case, here's what I have put in sajha so that hopefully we can retain good writers in sajha if not bring back other good writers who have decided to melt into oblivion from the world of sajha.

I have added a [subscribe] feature next to each members name in posting, as well as in the userinfo page for any user, whereby registered members can subscribe to the writer. When you subscribe to a writer, your name is shown in the subscribers list under the writers profile. This is the essence of this very simple addition. Another important part of this feature is the email notification. There will be two kinds of notification emails being sent out every night at 11:30 pm. The first notification goes out to all users who have subscribed to anyone - if the subscribed writer has written anything in the past 24 hours. You will get notification of posts by your favorite writers in the last 24 hours if you have subscribed to any writers.

The second notification goes out to the writers informing them who have subscribed to their postings in the last 24 hours. This can serve to be a reminder and acknowledgement to writers who have left sajha for good that their writings are still being cherished here in sajha. For active writers it can serve to be an encouragement.

I hope you will use this feature to help sajha users have more access to more excellent writings, stories and other interesting information.

You can find a member by using the "SEARCH MEMBER" feature above the Vianet banner on the right. When you click on the members name in search result, you will get to the user info page where you can see the [subscribe] link on the same line as the username.

Happy Subscribing to many good things to come.

Warm wishes for a happy and prosperous Tihar.

Please use table below to subscribe to these excellent writers. We would like to see them back in sajha. If I have missed any please let me know via this thread so I can add to the quicklist below.

San you might be enthusiastic about this since this is your site, but I don't think these writers are interested or enthusiastic that's why they don't write here. No offense.

I never said this site sux. I wouldn't be here if this site sucked and neither would you. My observation was only about the writers who don't post anymore.

Great Idea.. I have noticed that a LOT of brilliant writers dont write anymore.. but I should agree that eben if we do subscribe to thes writers.. it really wont mean a thing until they really write! Will these writers be informed that people are sunscribing to them. If they are notified of other's subscription, maybe they will be motivated to write more!!! What say you?

Rythm,
Every evening there will be a notification email sent to each writer who is subscribed to. Hence even if someone hasn't been to sajha in a while, then the notification will get to serve as a reminder that their legacy is still being enjoyed in sajha.

San Dai,

What you are doing is great. In addition, I guess, we should be asking ourselves why did we loose these great writers in the first place. Somewhere, something happned. I don't know the exact reason or I cannot pinpoint a moment, but something did change. It can be one of those days when we all were afraid to open sajha in public or it can be one of those threads filled with vulgarity and filth. I know Sajha is like a CHAUTARI where anyone can come and enjoy the shade of PIPAL, but if somebody starts destroying the very fundamental of the chautari, as a rightful owner, you have a right to filter the flow. You have made wise and right choices in the past and I hope you will in future too. Its just that past is reflecting a lesson upon us, although bright and displeasing, we ought to behold it.

To be Honest San, Bygones are bygones , if not , Let bygones be bygones.

I would rather think - a nice way to bring these writers back from their busy and progressive lives - would be to create ventures for new and fresh writers. When they see that their herds havent yet flocked away , i bet they'll join and have stories to tell , appreciate , share and have fun.

May be we all gotta learn to live with change, and yet, not make a difference.

Hahahaha...San bro,
It's almost like asking your ex to come back and have an intimate dinner with you so as to relive the bygone "romantic" days once again hahaha... Nothing wrong with the want, but I wonder  how many exs do ACTUALLY return to their exs just because the poor guy is missing her sorely hahaha...

On a more serious note, and this is to the larger audience:

"Who Moved My Cheese?" - Spencer Johnson, MD.

I recommend this book to all. It's one of the SHORTEST reads you would ever come across (which BTW is a major plus for a lazy reader like myself) but boy, it also happens to be one of those books which come once in a while (sometimes, in a blue-moon) that actually "change" the way you look at your life (of course in the most positive of ways). It will teach you how to deal with unanticipated/undesired "changes" in life  -- the changes could be big; like those in your work arena (lay-offs, demotions, transfer) or in your personal relationships front (break-ups, deaths, exits and all...) or, as I see, a small one; like here in sajha  -- the so-called "good" writers leaving the place.

And the teaching from the book is not just the two words which how-so-frequently we like to tell ourselves and other people who went through the change - "Move on!". It's further beyond and more subtle than that!

Anyways, coming to the point -Sajha definitely has plummeted in quality of late and many  "good" writers leaving or not-writing is one of the reasons. I myself fall short on enthusiasm to post threads these days as most of them tend to go un-noticed and/or un-discussed at the depth I would normally anticipate/want.

Apart from that, being a member of this forum for a while, I feel it's hard to get going for long in a forum where life is, for the most part, virtual. You come, shout, sing, dance, talk, read, write, analyze, listen to music... for how long? You had all the vigor to fire your keyboards while you're young but now you wish you could talk to them in person and save all your energy/time instead of replying them from behind the screen.

In this mortal world, everyone has limited cells/gusto after which the energy meter starts beeping (meaning you need to recharge or you will die) and with the energy crisis going on (gas price hike and all ), you don't have much choice than to leave the place you once loved and find a life elsewhere.

In other words, we gotta accept the bitter reality which is: people die and so do posters in sajha

I think for most of the writers we're talking about in this thread, the stuffs I just told applies. I think/hope some of them are on a temporary leave only and that they will get back, once they rejuvenate themselves. But frankly speaking, even if they don't, I feel we have enough "good" writers on the horizon who would/could carry on with the legacy the others left.

Either way -- it's just a matter of time, I would think.

Best of luck and happy tihar to all !

Regards,
LooTe
