We have a Nepali Pundit here in our area, This dude don't respond if the religious advice doesn't have monetary gain to him. And these pundit can summarize all pujas in what ever time frame fits them. So I just figured out I would just ignore these pakhandees and do simple pujas.

My argument in favor of the mass conversion of Dalits to non-Hundu religion, from an old thread.

Thread: Caste Dynamics: Buddhism's appeal for low-caste Hindus
Date: 13 Nov 2002

"There is no dispute that despite our efforts of past whatever years, the casteism continues to harm and humiliate Dalits. It remains a formidable evil and a shame of Nepal and India. It remains to be eradicated. In other words, what we have been doing so far for it is not enough. What more can we do ? That is the question."

"I want to say upfront that I do not have a preference in religion... All religions are imperfect. So the usefulness of the conversion of Dalits is not the benefit other religions provide but rather the message it sends to the supremacist high caste people as well as Dalits themselves. It is like when an abused wife leaves her abusing husband and be with another man, it is not the other man but mostly her decision to leave the abusive husband that forces the abusing husband to give her the respect she deserves. He might try to look down upon her if not challenged. But when she will look at him eye to eye and say, ‘fu-k your supremacy, I am no longer your slave’, that bastard will not dare even in his dream to disrespect her. How about educating the abusive husband. Well we must by all means. But don’t ask the wife not to leave him."

Nepe:

Yup, you are right. Those who believe in Higher Caste like we have in Nepal are indeed similar to drunken and abusive husband. We gotta root them out. Converting those Dalits to Buddhism is one way. At least, they get respect they deserve. Those need to be challenge as they have way too much ego than they can carry in their shoulder.

Indeed, that is one of the reason Our Country is Always in Trouble. At least, with Republic in near distance, we know that Process has already started.

Leaving the abusing husband is a revenge. Religions forbid taking revenge.

Got to look at the cause, and IMPROVE the situation but not revenge. This should be done by both sides.

Nycketa-jee,

Republic does liberate us at least mentally to be free to think outside the box of "traditional fabric" of the society and innovate ways to meet our newer needs.

As for remedies of casteism, Dr. Ambedkar's way is, as you rightly said, might be ONE among several different as well as complementary ways including EDUCATION, as copycat-jee just reminded.

Sometime ago I was sharing and discussing what I thought could be a new complementary approach: "decasteification of surname" (थरको निर्जातीकरण)।

Here is the discussion:

*********************

"De-casteification of surnames is one of many minor but significant social reforms I think about Nepal.

Letting people freedom to choose names, surnames, religion and everything a Nepali is entitled to is going to be among many socio-political reforms I am going to pursue (no, not limited to cyber-activism !).

So, I will be promoting one broad basic right of Nepali citizen (freedom of a child from being imposed religion and surname of parents !) in the new constitution. Seriously."

*********************

My proposal does let freedom to those who would like to choose to inherit their parent's surname as their identity.

...I am myself aware of some arbitrary cases of surname changing. My proposal to make it legal from arbitrary.

Of course education and other factors have made the "basnsuri" have more and more feeble sound. However, my proposal was "Na rahe baans, Na baje baabsuri".

I thought "decastification of surnames" would be self-guiding if not self-explaining. Anyway, "decastification" was the purpose and "freedom to choose surnames" was the method, in my proposal. The idea was to let anybody to choose/change any surname any day of their life so that, as more people do that, a particular surname remains no longer limited to a particular caste. The idea is to confuse the caste. Of course a person who is proud of his/her caste and does not want any outsider to use that caste will not be happy with it. But who cares the caste chauvinism ?

It should be obvious, this method is primarily intended to free people from the stigmatized identity. The reason I chose "freedom" (as a matter of fact, I would like to make it "encouragement") "to choose any surnames/caste" was to avoid Mahatma Gandhi's error. Gandhi thought he liberated Dalits by just giving a respected class name of "Harijan". It did not liberate Harijans from their stigmatized identity.

1. The practice of changing surname is very rare and arbitrary. As far as I know, there is no law that deals particularly with this issue. However, arbitrary change of name/surname could be interpreted as fraudulence (किर्ते) by some existing laws, I suppose.

In any case, I think, a lot of people (from stigmatized castes) will go for changing their surnames (caste) if they know that is welcome. It is important to note that I am not talking about "mass conversion" to newly invented surnames. I am talking about individual and discreet conversions.

2. If you are asking for detail of my proposal, it is yet to be worked out.

However, the major ideas, some of which I already discussed, are something like this:

● Incorporate the freedom of surname (do not call it "caste" because that will be constitutionalizing the casteism ) in the article regarding basic rights in the constitution.

● Bring a law that allows a citizen to change his/her surname any time.

● Educate people (GOs, NGOs, POs can help with some kind of campaign).

Nepeji:

I meant to say following are one of many ways we all can give and get justice for everyone.
1. Converting to more open and respectable religion.
2. Republic frees us from caste and autocratic system. It may not eliminate, but opens a gate to better representation.

Buddhism is a religion and philosophy based on peace and love.It is a path of practice and spiritual development leading to Insight into the true nature of life. The experience developed within the Buddhist tradition over thousands of years has created an incomparable resource for all those who wish to follow a path — a path which ultimately culminates in Enlightenment or Buddhahood.Buddhism does not include the idea of worshipping a creator god.The basic tenets of Buddhist teaching are straightforward and practical: NOTHING IS FIXED OR PERMANENT; ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES; CHANGE IS POSSIBLE. Thus Buddhism addresses itself to all people irrespective of RACE, NATIONALITY, or GENDER. It teaches practical methods .....which enable people to realise and utilise its teachings in order to transform their experience, to be fully responsible for their lives and to develop the qualities of Wisdom and Compassion.

Well!!!! here are some philosophical quotes of....... BUDDHISM......

You can explore the universe looking for somebody who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself,
and you will not find that person anywhere.

Conquer the angry man by love.
Conquer the ill-natured man by goodness.
Conquer the miser with generosity.
Conquer the liar with truth.

Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle,
and the life of the candle will not be shortened.
Happiness never decreases by being shared

Make an island of yourself,
make yourself your refuge;
there is no other refuge.
Make truth your island,
make truth your refuge;
there is no other refuge.

Do not pursue the past.
Do not lose yourself in the future.
The past no longer is.
The future has not yet come.
Looking deeply at life as it is.
In the very here and now, the practitioner dwells in stability and freedom.
We must be diligent today.
To wait until tomorrow is too late.
Death comes unexpectedly.
How can we bargain with it?
The sage calls a person who knows how to dwell in mindfulness night and day,
'one who knows the better way to live alone.'

Do not try to become anything.
Do not make yourself into anything.
Do not be a meditator.
Do not become enlightened.
When you sit, let it be.
What you walk, let it be.
Grasp at nothing.
Resist nothing.

The beauty of life is, while we cannot undo what is done,
we can see it, understand it, learn from it and change.
So that every new moment is spent not in regret, guilt, fear or anger,
but in wisdom, understanding and love.

View all problems as challenges.
Look upon negativities that arise as opportunities to learn and to grow.
Don't run from them, condemn yourself, or bury your burden in saintly silence.
You have a problem? Great.
More grist for the mill. Rejoice, dive in, and investigat

To be angry is to let others' mistakes punish yourself.
To forgive others is to be good to yourself.

WELL!!!!!!!!

My religion is to live and die without regret

PEACE.........!!!LEE

Religion is a language of expression is a path to god. It doesnt matter which one you speak all you need to know is the expression and the word you choose does not go in vain. It does not matter which way you walk all you gotta make sure is you clear the pavement and make it easy for others to follow you.
God is one. It is our soul, like we feed our earthly body, prayers are the food for your soul.
Like food keeps living being alive prayers keeps your soul. like you choose your favorite food among the once available to prevent starvation you may choose religion, but all you should be care is to serve.serve so that no starvation exists.
morals of all religion are same, same is the cause, all purifies your soul, all leads you to one destination LORD.

Chunlee,
FIRST READ WHAT I AM REFERING TO BEFORE YOU JUMP THE GUN. he he I AM TALKING ABOUT VOLUMINOUS NEPE's PLAN ON CHANGING LAST NAMES. Well his highness Nepe does not want to clear any path for anybody .... or rather HE WANTS OTHERS TO CLEAR THE PATH FOR HIM SO HE CAN GO AND CLAIM WHAT"S RIGHTFULLY HIS ... HIS REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP. This Moron wants to eliminate people's names(the very identification which defined us for centuries) and raffle out new ones. In other words wipe out our heritage and history. YEAH GREAT THINKING MORON.

EVERY RELIGION IS EQUAL.THEY ALL LEAD US TO ONE PATH WHICH IS ENTIRELY TRUE.HOWEVER, IN SOME CASES OR LET'S SAY IN SOME RELIGION THEY DISCRIMINATE THE PEOPLE......FOR INSTANCE. PEOPLE OF SOME CAST OR SO CALLED DALITS ARE PROHIBITED TO ENTER INTO THE TEMPLE OR MONASTERY OR EVEN THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH THE THINGS.WHAT DO U THINK....... IS THIS FAIR....ISN'T THIS FAULT INSIDE CERTAIN RELIGION.PEOPLE ARE CREATED EQUAL BY ALMIGHTY GOD... ISN'T IT ?? SO,WHY DON'T THEY HAVE EQUAL RIRHT?? WHY THEY ARE NOT TREATED EQUAL IN SOME SOCIETY AND RELIGION??...CHANGING RELIGION IS NOT AN OPTION......SO WHAT????? THAY HAVE TO WAIT TILL THE TRADITIONAL MINDS OF PEOPLE (INDIA,NEPAL) CHANGE. I THINK IT WOULD TAKE EVEN TWO OR THREE CENTURIES TO CONVERT CONTRIES LIKE INDIA AND NEPAL............OPTION WHAT.?....CHRISTIANITY OR BUDDHISM OR OTHER RELIGION...AT LEAST THEY CAN GO TO CHURCH OR MONASTERY WITHOUT ANY PROHIBITION OR DISCRIMINATION......

The beauty of life is, while we cannot undo what is done,
we can see it, understand it, learn from it and change.
So that every new moment is spent not in regret, guilt, fear or anger,
but in wisdom, understanding and love.

WELL.......................................PEACE ;LEE

You are still missing the point there Dyslexia, you are off the mark again.
THIS NEPE THINKS CHANGING PEOPLE LAST NAMES WILL SOLVE CENTURIES OLD RACISM, CASTISM, AND DISCRIMINATION. I mean names define us who we are today. You want to check your heritage .... you start with your last name. For example He wants TSERING(buddhist) to sacrifice animals in Durgaa's(Hindu) temple. Catch my drift ?
