Starting your day with the news/ newspapers is always a good idea. Early morning you are updated with what is happening around the world. On the other hand, some people need the newspaper even to go for dunny. Until they see or feel that newspaper they won’t have the bowel movement. No I don’t need newspaper in the mornings, like to that extreme but yes I like to keep myself updated.

Except Gaza bombing and the Malayasia Airline missile shot down, Nepali politics has a lot of interesting things happening. I am sure a lot of us frown and growl over what is happening, what needs to be done, what is not going right. But that is now what I am going to write about. I am no political analyst to get into that, but what I wanted to draw the attention to is about the Prime Ministers we had and we will have.

Lets first talk about, Sushil Koirala, one of the heirs of the Game of Throne of Koirala family. It looks like, this family had taken an oath that all of them needs to become the PM of Nepal before they close their eyes for good. Biswoshor Prasad Koirala, Matrika Prasad Koirala, Girija Prasad Koirala, now Sushil Koirala and Sujata Koirala and Manisha Koirala struggling to follow the line ( being superly optimistic, maybe they just have politics in their blood and gene and it works for them…what do you think?).

Anyway the point that I wanted to share is the selection of  leaders we have these days in Nepal. Couple of months back, our stamp President….yes only used as a official stamp and no good to work President Dr. Ram Baral Yadav had visited Japan for health check up on government expenses. A dark stain was seen in his large intestine, so he has spent total of 80 lakh Nepali rupees (initial news was, the entire visit will be covered within 60 lakh). This is the money we pay in tax and this is how it has been utilized.           

Next, Mr. PM….. Sushil Koirala is diagnosed with first stage lungs cancer, long before he became the PM of Nepal. The inside scoop is that, other prominent leaders ( inside the party and outside as well) decided to give him a chance to be the PM, just in case he dies with cancer. Hello? Just because he is ill and got cancer you give him a whole country to play with? So our beloved Mr. PM was in his 1 month medical tour to the US of A. Mind it all expenses paid by the state….no not United States…it’s the Nepal government.

Now Tuesday 22^nd of July, Mr. PM is back in the country and the same day, Mr. K.P. Sharma Oli, the newly elected Chairman of CPN-UML is off the Singapore. He had meningitis infection in April and was rushed to Bangkok, after that he had some fungal infection in his right. He is also using the “National Bhandar” for his visits to these places. First it was Delhi, then Bangkok and now Singapore.

The other buzz is that Oli will be pretty soon replacing Koirala as the Prime Minister of Nepal. On top of that scoop, the double scoop is Oli won the elections because, people thought he had never been a PM, he is sick and he should get a CHANCE. What a criteria to fulfill the position.

 So we get rid of an old ill guy and get another fungal guy. I might sound insensitive here but all I am saying is, it is high time that Nepal should get a healthy leader with a vision to work for the country, not spend half of his time in health checkups. I also know that your body gets wear and tear with time…but don’t you think its better to have a better body and mind which will take some time to get there where these guys are already at, at the moment.

Hoping that Nepal will have a better leadership in days to come…..If I come to know that I am dying soon with some ailment….I ll go and say please before I die can I be the PM of Nepal?

३. सुशील कोइराला प्रधान मन्त्री हुनु भन्दा अगावै हरेक बर्ष जिब्रो को क्यान्सरको उपचारको क्रममा फलो-अप गर्न America आउनुहुन्थ्यो | यसपाली पनि त्यसै सिलसिलामा एक थप स्वास्थ परीक्षणको लागि आउनु भएको हो | राष्ट्रका प्रधान मन्त्रीलाई क्यान्सर हुँदा संबेदनशील हुनुको साटो राष्ट्रको ढुकुटीको सवाल गर्नु हुन्छ ?? देशलाई कंगाल बनाउने धमिराहरु समाजको हरेक तप्कामा छन् | १-२ करोड रकम राष्ट्रले देशको प्रधान मन्त्रीको उपचार खर्च गर्दा टाउको दुखाइ नहुनु पर्ने हो | अरबौं घोटाला गर्ने आरी मन्त्री, सरकारी अधिकारी, ब्यापारी , उद्योगी र ठगहरु छन् | तिनको नियन्त्रण गर्न जरुरी छ |

४. अमेरिका हैन हाम्रो मुलुक जहाँ हरेकले ट्याक्स बुझाउछ र करले चलेको सरकार भन्न मिल्छ | राष्ट्रको कति प्रतिशत आम्दानी आम जनताले तिरेको कर बाट हुन्छ , तपाईं लाई थाह छ ?? कुन चाहि खुद्रा पसलेले , कुन चाहि वकिलले , कुन चाहि डाक्टरले, कुन चाहि कपडा ब्यापारी , कस्मेटिक पसलले कर तिरेको तपाइँलाई थाहा छ ?? तिर्ने पर्ने गरी बनाइएको नियम कानूनले बाध्य पारेकाहरुले बाहेक न त हामी मा कर तिर्नु पर्छ भन्ने चेतना छ , न त इमान्दारिता नै | तै पनि हामी ले कर तिरेर चलेको सरकार ले यसो गर्न पाउछ उसो गर्न पाउछ भनेर ठुलो स्वरमा कराउछौ |

५. हो राष्ट्रको सम्पतिको जथाभावी खर्च गर्न पाइन्दैन |

६. कोइरालाले अमेरिका बसेर बिलासिता होटेलमा बसेर खाएर खर्च गरेको छ ? शुद्ध मेडिकल प्रयोजनको लागि न्यूयोर्क आउनु भयो र नेपाली नियोगको आवासमा बस्नु भयो | के यसलाई पनि फजुल खर्च भन्ने ??

७. देशका योग्य डाक्टरहरु बिदेशीए पछि नेपालका धेरै जस्तो अस्पतालहरुको हालत र गैर जिम्मेवारीपूर्ण ब्यबहार तपाइँ हामी सबैलाई थाह छ | तर बिदेशमा उपचार गर्ने जानु हुन्न भन्ने कुरा पनि सही हैन |

८. केपी ओली बिरामी छन् , गम्भीर बिरामी | राम्रो उपचार को हकदार छन् | नेपालको लोकतान्त्रिक आन्दोलनमा के पी ओलीको योगदानलाइ कम आंकलन गर्न मिल्दैन | ओली रातारात एउटा ठुलो पार्टीको संसदीय दलको नेता भएका हैनन् |

९. हो नेपालको राजनीति फोहरी छ, नेताहरु धेरै बेइमान , नालायक र बदमास छन् | र पनि तिनै लाइ हामी ले चुनेका हौँ नि , यो त भुल्नु भएन नि ? र सधै नकारात्मक र सतही कुरामा मात्र हामी रमाउछौ |

I have “derivative of constant” knowledge in matter of politics but here I got some preview and educated on “a top notched aristocratic clan” a ruling class of Nepali, thanks rahulvai.

Now comes the question, if he was going on his own for past so many years on his own money then why is he using the bhandar paisa right now? And its not question of 1-2 crore, its about being right.
National treasure is for the people abd the country's development. Sorry but I really dont think your arguement was correct here that k pharak parcha .....parchani....tax ta maile tireko chhu tapai le hoina.....jaba nepal ma aayera tax pag garnu huncha....jahile aafno pocket ko jancha ni tespacchi sayad taha hola....

Having read few posts by both Ambroisa and Rahulvai, I will try to give them both the benefit of doubt.

First of all, Rahulvai's post was in rebuttal to the insensitive nature of the post, I think. Humor is good, but it also should put forth the facts otherwise it is just a mockery.

However, Ambroisa's piece was not a serious political commentary and I think she indicated that from the get-go. I am pretty sure she is aware of the Koirala family relationships and that point shouldn't be taken too seriously. As for the sickness, sure a little crude humor but I think it still was a humor piece. There also is some truth to it. Leader's health is also important and for a poor country like ours, can we really afford to send our leaders on a month long hiatus bearing all the cost in one of the most expensive place? Sushil Koirala's case was special as they discovered cancer after he was appointed; but parties have to think about the health condition of the leaders too while making decision for the leadership IMO.

I also agree with Rahulvai's point about taxation; we take everything for granted in Nepal without paying any due. True, but we also have the right to hold the leaders accountable for things they have done. They were voted to serve the people, not their manifest.

Nepal's politics is screwed up to the core. Why can't we have a healthy and young PM ever? जुन गोरु आए पनि बुढा र बिरामी| त्येस्ताले देश कसरि चलाउने? As Ambrosia said, the PM position is becoming a magi khane bhada that gets passed around among the old politicians. हाम्रो देशको नेताहरु सब्बै माग्ने मान्छे नै हुन्

Arko kura chahi.....Dont you think it is better to have a healthy guy...mentally and physically to be the PM of any country....I respect watever he had done for past 40 yrs for Nepal....but right now its time for him to take a break....retire and hit the mountains to get some peace....Regardless of how much you try to bend it .....the truth is....we need someone who can work....and not spend half of his time nursing him illness ( i know i sound rude...but if u r a manager of a firm...you wont hire someone who is ill....regardless of wat!....am i right or am i right)

Politicians and politics, to escape from all that I had to abandon my birth place. Back then, I got through and passed 2 times in that “Lok Seva” written exam but some how always used to get kicked out in viva. While, in my college days I normally used to score high in my viva. Might not be that smart, but definitely not an idiot so got through 3-rd time on viva. And there I had an opportunity to work in some government project works and be in contact with some good and smart people.

Worked for about 7 years and paid my Tax and had  SanchyaKosh, and Jeevan Bima ( still there not drawn a single penny out of it). In fact, being in projects the income was good and paid lots of tax, feeling good thinking that I earned enough to be able to pay that much……

BTW, While in projects I happened to meet Mr. Oli once and seemed a real gentleman, I wish him best of health.

And Ambrosia, whatever it is I like your attitude… keep writing.

It is indeed laughable to hear Nepali citizens claim their right from taxes paid. Doesn't mean they cannot demand an accountability from their government though.
I don't blame Nepalis at all for this. If IRS wasn't so strict and powerful, most US citizens wouldn't be paying the tax either. Corporates and businessmen evade tax all the time. How much corporate tax did Google or GE pay last year? Having law is not enough, it has to be strictly enforced.

Again, I see good points from both sides. I just ask readers to take this piece as a humor piece, not a serious political commentary. I bet that's what Amby is going for.

Jungle Book.... thank you for your reply.....I think MAKUNE shud have won the party elections....but this time the members sympathized with his illness.....and as far as I have known.....he was asked to do the medical routines a long time back but he ignored it and now the govt is paying for it :)
