Sagoon, (- http://www.sagoon.com ) based in Washington DC, has released the beta version of its new search engine for public testing. Sagoon is founded by two Nepalese American Govinda Giri and Shiba Dhakal.

The key idea behind the Sagoon technology - "Word Space Model" - is to promote semantic search over the regular lexical search to provide more meaningful information to users. This is done by analyzing the content of Web data and news documents to find out hidden similarities among them. The implementation of "semantic analysis" requires a series of algorithms and mathematical calculations.

The Sagoon's results cover a number of resources for variety in the results. The results are obtained from a combination of Sagoon's index, Yahoo Boss, and some of the larger search companies in the online information industry. Search results organized by ideas and concepts provide results based on Web page content analysis. Search results also offer organized features such as tabs to clarify subjects, news display groups, and the most relevant queries to explore more topics. This helps in guiding the users to the desired results with just one mouse click.

The problem is, "IS the search engine going to survive when google is running the world?" Couple of months back Cuil named search engine was released with lots of  fuzz and Hoopla and it vanished without a trace..Lets hope Sagoon doesn't have the same fate..

i haven't used Sagoon thoroughly but looks quite impressive..Way to go guys..

Guys, I am highly impressed by Sagoon. I searched some of my personal info in Sagoon and it displayed the thing as the first item (in the top of the first result page) that Google and Yahoo search engines never ever found (in their first 7-8 result pages). It is really wonderful. Two thumbs up for Sagoon!

If built by DC Nepalese, why is the regional headquarters NEW DELHI, INDIA? Thanks.

Yeah at first I also thought that Nepalese had done great job by making some search engine. But later I found out that it is developed by some indian guy.

I was about to sleep, but the comments in this thread made me sleepless.

If only you could read proper, you'd understand that the underlying indexes that Sagoon uses is its own indexing scheme + Yahoo Boss! + others (may be google providing its free indexin' APIs)!

And Moreover, even if an indian company coded the design, the algorithm must have been developed by these guys. So please learn to appreciate, if not shut-the-kcuf-up! 

To the developers, would you mind providing us the pointers to the algorithms - if any? (papers / tech docs)!

You guys are classic cases of making mountains out of molehills. The gossipers, the 'ek kan dui kan maidaan's , the pea-brained, sheep-mentalitied, thuk nilne, aunla padkaune ignoramuses who won't even bother to look for credibility of a source before dissing it and acting like a regicide was commited.

Today is an exciting day for us and we are all taking a deep breath. Finally, our dream of serving users is coming true.

When you dream of something big, it takes a long time to realize it. Sagoon has been no exception. Two years ago, it was no more than a glimmer of an idea. However, my desire to build a search portal became so strong soon, I was having sleepless nights. But it was still a faraway dream for me as I did not have financial backup to kick-start such a venture.

One fine day, I went to see my good friend Shiba - with his encouraging premises we started building Sagoon. We faced many ups and downs, encouragements as well as discouragements, and appreciation as well as brickbats. But we stuck to our dream and today, after much struggle, Sagoon is actually getting launched.
The realization of the dream involved many friends and online industries. We would like to thank all those who supported us during this difficult task – Mr. Aristotle Thapa, Dr. Niladri Chatterjee, Mr. Umesh Giri, Mr. Ramjee Pahadee, Mr. Mohan Giri, Mr. Nabin Chuwan, Mrs. Sunita Khadka and of course countless support from my wife Sushila Giri. The HQ might be in India for various reasons. Mainly if HQ was in ktm then prolly load shedding would have hampered operations.
Secondly, India has MUCH MORE funds than our Nepal to provide for the needs of a project of such proportions. There are a LOT more IT graduates who are Indian simply because of the fact that our population is 29 mil and theirs is 1147 Million. We have to swallow our pride at one point.

That might not satisfy a lot of people, but lets see the donut and not the hole.

And those saying the results are leeched from google: look again. Those are google sponsored links. These guys are pretty smart by trying to raise some revenue off google's tormenting rivers of AdSense/AdWords.

Interesting.  My congratulations to the people behind Sagoon.  I hope they get funded.  I will definitely be watching, and cheering, their progress.

ps -  there will certainly be detractors.  Aafuley pani garnu nasakney, aruley gareko pani dekhi-nasahaney.  One has to keep one's eyes on the ball, I suppose, and not get discouraged.
