I would really appreciate if somebody could help me out by sharing your experiences if your visa stamping process has gone through administrative processing. How long did you have to wait if you were issued a 221 (g). I would really appreciate responses.

Hi Nabina!
My dad had gone through the same so called administrative processing and it took them exactly 28 Days to release his visa.
It is a normal process, if the applicant works for a Government firm that are considered high risk, such as Army, Police, Revenue Office, Land Reform Office etc.
Please do not call or inquire before 28 Days because that might weaken your case. In addition, please ask applicant's office Manager or supervisor to be alert of any phone call that requests information about him(applicant). Normally, Visa office would like to know, whether the applicant is who he is claim to be and duration of the approved Leave.
I hope, you will find my experience helpful.
Good Luck!

Hi Nebokobau,
Thank you for sharing your dad's experiences. I work in an Indian consultancy in IT field, may be that was the case why they had to do additional background check. It's already been 15 days after the visa interview and I haven't heard from them yet. I hope things will go well as you said. Thanks a lot.

Hi Nabina!
Hope this is nothing to do with your employment status!! If you work for reputed IT consultancy here in US then nothing to worry about. If they did not reply you within 30 Days, please feel free to contact the Visa Consulate directly. (If you need, I have an email to me from him after approving VISA).
Please have patience.

Hi Nibo ko Bau,
The Consulate shared horrible stories that the process may take anywhere from 2 months to one year which is really frustrating. Thank you so much for this generosity. I really appreciate your help. Please forward me the email id so that I could email them if they don't give me a call in another few days.
Thanks.

Good morning,

Both my parents applied for the visitor visa same time

been made on my father’s application so far. As the wedding day is approaching
close, we would very much appreciate your decision on his application.

I, along with my wife, ...., are the ...Residents, living in the United States for the past 10 years.  I work
as an IT Consultant and Adjunct Faculty at the ... and ... is the agency administrator at .......

My father has a successful life and career in Nepal as a
government official and I can personally assure you that they will not stay
here in the United States any longer than their visa. I will take full
responsibility of their visit to the US and timely return, if that is your
concern for the pending visa approval. I, therefore, kindly request you to
grant him the visitor visa.

Please do not hesitate to contact me via telephone or
e-mail if you have any questions.

Response:

Dear

Hi Nabina,

I had exact same story when I went to Nepal to get my H1b stamped last year. The interview went very well and I was hoping to get the visa the same day but unfortunately the visa officer handed me a letter saying my application needs some kinda admin processing....that turned out to be 221g. I was very frustrated.

I talked to my employer (manager) and described him what happened and requested him to send an email to the visa section, US embassy Nepal. He was so nice to me and he did accordingly. The consulate office called me few days after that to come pick the visa. My case was on hold for about 3 weeks. The only difference in your case compared to mine is you're working on an IT consultancy which I dont think is making any difference in this case. Good luck and I am pretty sure you will get through this in a week or two. But don't forget to talk to your employer in US.

Nabina,

I was in the same boat as you were now. They took 2 and half months to issue my Visa. I had a great time staying in Nepal though I had a lil panic time everyday. So, I tell you to enjoy your stay there rather than panicking.

All the best to you.

Cheers

Thank you so much all. While I am enjoying my stay with my family and relatives, I am equally worried about my job. My employer may not wait for me for 2-3 months. I don't know what will happen if I lose job in the course of this administrative processing.

Nabina,

How long were you there for ? Do/Did you have/had the return ticket with you ? You might wanna extend your vacation I would say. In my story I had to cancel my return ticket which was non-refundable and booked another one which was very very expensive as I booked the ticket at the last hour. But I have not heard of anybody not getting it though. Be positive.

Cheers,

Nabina, It's unfortunate to receive U-221g  letter. When you have a clean employment record, you don't have to panic  at all. Some one is lucky to get clearance in couple  of days while others are not.
My wife had been through the similar situation and her visa was held for 3 months. I did lot of research and called USCIS  officer. Once you get U-221g, your case will be forwarded to dept.of labor. Per new immigration law, your updated status & employment has to be forwarded to labor dept. by USCIS. It's not an automated process. Due to back log and process being manual, some are unfortunate to have their system not logged in Labor's system. Labor dept, in turn, ask USCIS for your  updated information. After your background check is completed by labor, they'll issue clearance to consulate and only consulate can issue your visa. It's just a coincidence that some of guys got clearance before they sent email to consulate regarding their visa status. Otherwise you'll get same common answer "your case is still in admin processing..."  whether you call or email. Keep patience. You can see more information from lawyers in Murthy or immigrationvoice . good luck

spur230,

I also got 221g at the time of interview last week. It took them 2 days to get the PIMS verified and another 24 hours for processing.

You know why you got 221g? PIMS? Security check?

If it is a security check, then the wait will be for a while.

Last year I went through same situation. Just calm down. it took 4 weeks to me to get visa even though he said it might take upto 8 weeks. Just enjoy, I know its hard to enjoy during pending visa. :)

arbiter,

it's good to hear your case was resolved so quickly.  I am not sure why i got 212g but the counselor had said the process generally takes 2 days. So I hope its PIMS.  Anyways thanks for the info.

It seems that you got 221g for the same reason that I got: PIMS verification. The consular officer had also told me that it will take them 2-3 days to get it verified. I had mentioned to him though that I had my flight five days later, and he had said that that shouldn't be a problem. I hope though that you have more than a week before you come back

Just keep mailing the consular office (email add should be up there in this thread) to check the status. They notified me when they received the PIMS number but they wouldn't tell me anything about my PP and Visa. After getting too generic answers I went to the embassy myself (since I was to fly a day later) to check the status. They have a free counseling session to everyone from 1:00-3:00pm everyday. They canceled the session the day I went there but I made my case to the guards there, who fortunately understood my situation and let me enter the facility. I had my passport back a few minutes later!

If you are not short on time, just relax and enjoy and keep mailing the embassy from time to time. Otherwise, you gotta do what you gotta do!
