He should be tried in a court of law, given 25 year, and then deported if he is still alive. Other prisioners do not like child pornographers and often beat them severely in prison. God save his soul.

A Nepali arrested in Georgia, USA.

People! stay out of trouble. Before you do anything, always ask yourself, "Is it morally right to do what I am going to undertake?"

It is unfortunate to hear about the news. Looking at his academic and family information it is unbelievable!!! He is not convicted yet. I wish he was non-Nepali. I am sorry for his family.

I really felt bad listening this message. we have same situation to one of our F1 students in Dallas, but he got through the situation after spending 15,000 dollar to the lawyer. IN USA the problem of paedophile is ramptant and worst, therefore, US government is trying to crackdown those criminals. People are stupid in the sense they keep talking even though the other part admits that he or she is below 18. That's wrong. you gotta be very watchful and don't be silly. Sex is not everything. Humanity counts a lot. Bhir batga khasna lageko bhaisi lie ram ram bhanna sakincha kadhai dina chahi sakdina. i pray my god for his safe release.

It did not surprise me to see the fellow countryman Mr. Basnet to get caught in such a sting operation as internet sex offender (underage). I have been following the NBC's Internet Underage Sex for quite a while. And every time in a show, there are at least couple of those Indian IT professional getting caught red-handed. At first, I thought it was an isolated case, but seeing at least couple of Indian Bhais on regular basis on such sting operation, now it did not surprise to see another Basnet Bhai getting caught in such a case.

I think Mr. Basnet was quite a naive compared to other internet lurkers who are so professional and so smart to oversmart the law officers. A friend of mine, a girl, always has one complain with me whenever she loggs on our own Sajha chat. She tells me, everytime she logs on Sajha chat, bunch of lurkers always P2P her with all those desperate lonely lowlives attacks. Now imagine the lesser version of such perverts on our own Sajha.

Well, a sad reality of the virtual world......

By the way, the reporter says that Mr. Basnet was sobbing all the time, crying out loud in the court, and now that reminds me of those our Indian Bhais, whose first question after getting caught is "Am I in big trouble???" or "Am I going to get deported????"

Sad news and it did not surprise me. As RSVP mentioned above there is lots of undercover police to check and detect htis type of crime. I watched 20/20 at ABC and i have seen guys age from 21 to 55 to meet 15 years old girl.

Watch out.......Funny Ruhavai comment "Sajah vanda aru thuma ankha nalagahunus hos sattivai term"

Well wisher,
Sagun

i am surprised that they arrested him cuz he didnt even goto meet the girl..
it says he wanted to but he didnt meet her.. so the cops went out to his house.. so he got arrested for talking with a minor online.

i am also very surprised that the university fired him from his GA job.. he hasnt even been convicted.

The article said since he was in contact with children, police had to act fast and arrest him.
Of course, as a nepali, we would like to believe he wasn't a pathologial pedophile but just a stupid person. But again, who knows. He is 41 year old doing his PHD. Law will, of course, think that he should have known better.

Unfortunate incident. But I hope our nepali brothers will learn a lesson from this. Since we dont have the concept of "under age" or "pedophile" in Nepal, it's hard for some ppl to understand the gravity it . I see bunch of Indians in the TV show and wonder whether they are just so stupid or may be they are just sick pedophiles who can't help themselves even when they know it's wrong.

Sick is Right Freak_Alien,
Otherwise, a 41 yr old man, with a wife and a 2-yr old child should have know better, and should be doing better things than look for online sex, be it a 15 yr old or an adult (>18 yrs)....I see no justification for a 41 yr married man, especially living with his wife and a 2-yr old to run after other young girls just for sex.....I am sick to my stomach hearing this......Deplorable act...

Having said all that, the punishment should fit the crime...I don't know much about punishments for sex offenders, but given he didnot meet this girl, and was arrested for talking seems a bit unreasonable....and might potentially get deported....He already got his biggest punishment....his child will think twice before calling him his Dad...I feel sorry for his family ! The 2-yr old does not deserve this....and the huge backlash he will receive as he grows and realizes how pathetic his Dad was !

Its sad to hear this story. Anyone who solicits sexual relationship from an underage should be punished.

While he may see this as an end of everything of what he has and what he has achieved in life, it’s not an end of the world.

We must look into the evidence. Mr. Basnet was not caught in an act; he was caught with intent to commit an illegal act.

Very likely , it could be a police entrapment. He needs a good lawyer. We have to see how everything transpired, it may very well be that the undercover police who put an ideas on his head and encouraged to come forward to commit illegal act. If he does not have prior criminal records and gets a good lawyer, he will probably get off on a misdemeanor charge or few years in county jail. This is not and end of the world for him. There are too many Nepalese PhD with high egos but low selfsteem, commonsense and decency.

Waibaforce!

Very well-put and optmistic idea that you have. We should try to get this guy out of trouble not that we support his judgement during that sting operation provided he has no prior conviction of any other kind. We should show unity when any of us is in trouble.
