DLTAIMPULSE,
If you are majoring in Computer, there are chances to get internship, Other than that there is less chances to get internship for other majors. Citywise Omaha is preety nice and more nepalese left Omaha after 1997 raid by INS.

Om! aha!

A city- where all nepali are together all year beside dashain fight!
A popular University- where you see more nepali than any other international student!
A nepali community- where you see everyone says" I am a computer Programmer but workfor telemarketing!
A peaceful town for studying not for settling for life!
A Metrocity- where one can see same thing of- downtown fountain park, and Lied jungle over and over until ...!
East meets West- where all the nepali from east of bellevue moving towards west of Metro city!
A city with 5 Lacks Omahans! with 50 lacks corn..
2 Indian grocery, One temple, 4 Indian restaurant
talk of our nepali circle-97 INS raid, Picnic, College game, who is buying house, party at house, CIS, Programming talk and life in weekend only!
Recently talk- Ron Psota-No new agenda in NNSociety beside party, cultural program and sports..No monthly newspaper, No radio or no Nepali kid school or awareness of our culture for new generation..
Weekend activity-small get together mostly in West Omahans, basketball in some places, and some pingpong, or party at somebody's house..no places to go unless one desires to drive out of town..or go to Counsilbluffs for casino..
Places to visit in counsilbluff-hill side scneray on the top of west of counsilbluff, snowy places at 20 miles north of Iowa,..
well, that's why our pundit says,

O'ooom, ha! swaaahaa..

oh! I forget to add somemore data regarding nepali in Omaha!

about 350 nepali still Omaha,
and 30/50 married with 2/3 kids
175 still students to my knowledge at bellevue and uno
about 200 still in f-1 visa rest h1, dv- green card and about 30 us citizens
and maybe 25/30 have own resident (home sweet home )
about 3 Bankcurrupt ( dont want to publish name )
40% of nepali population makes about 40K as they say they are programmer
80 % of nepali tried to be american not nepali
about 30/35 kids under 10
devided in two groups-Legal and Illigal
Legal thinks-they are rich and dont count illigal
Illigal think-I thnk they dont think!haha!!
the older they live in Omaha-the superior you become !!
competition of purchasing home-you become popular
just tell them-you are a programmer-you will be considered educated
this is it..
please do add more if you know anything about Omahans

alltheway & dltaimpulse dude. the main priority for those wishing to move to Omaha is the education. who cares about weather the city is beautiful or lots and lots of things to do.
i heard that UNO boost good well-rounded education in the midwest and is well established university in the Nebraska network University education system. the other two being UNK and UNL.
it looks like from bahadur007 that nepalis in Omaha are mostly settled and in good legal status unlikemany major cities in the USA.

yeah what about working off-campus? any suggestion? what kinds of jobs are there available?

Bruce, I have been here for 2 months ...infact in united states itself... so I don't know anything about the place... I don't know what other people are doing...

I find the place too dull and sleepy... so..transferring came into my mind...
I am worried about the opportunities here... I think there are better opportunities in other states than Omaha for computer Science students...

I am new to US and doing master here.

Bruce! Are you transferring from big cities or from the remote places thinking Omaha is a big city?

dltaimpulse i don't care about the size of the city dude. i grew up and lived in big city for most of the time. i also lived in medium size city as well as small town.
Omaha is a medium size city compartively to Northestern coastal cities.
I was in Lincloln once and so it was actually not bad.
yeah maybe .............dull and sleepy. but once you have job it won't be like that anymore.

anyway haven't you met other Omahaian nepali?

you both guys debating about personal career in Omaha! Read what I said..it has all the info.
job..tons ofjob but you need to kiss american's ass to have a computer's job other than telemarketing zinabad!
I never lived but i know..that town is dead! no fun, no life, no nepali event unless some party on weekend!
if you are going there for studying..i suggest you best city where you can afford. about 1500 dollar for 12 hrs of credit in Bellevue without books and supply.
off campus job are available you just have to drive around and not in bellevue. Bellevue is situated about 13 miles south of downtown. and bellevue has about 45 thousands population and 200 nepali. but all the big business is in Omaha mostly spread over the city.
Conegra, first data, Att, Sbc and other famous job place..

sathi haru,

well, i have been giving all the info.regarding omaha and their job career..ani aba ke chahiyo..apt basna?
La suna..
kaha basne? Omaha or bellevue?
belleuve by college?- Reveria apt which is half block east of college will cost you about 650 one bed room..make sure have some room mte. or go to close to wells fargo bank which is located north side of college parking lot will cost you around 450 for one bed room or go to east of college where you see lots of apts..but no jobs in bellevue area and no life without hanging out with nepalis..and playing ping pong in college.
wants to live in Omaha with 5/550 with one bed? here are the some good apts. go to 72 street in Pacific where you will see lots of apts with this price range..and first data is in the corner as well. or go to around behind cross world mall behind where you see lots of nepali in apts.
job? go to Idleman telemarketing, sbc or att office or fdr office..there are some software company you can check those out as well..but remember do no go to fdr without having proper document for employment!
good luck and have fun in Omaha!!
