No matter how bad it went, no matter how bad people made it look like, there is no alternative to democratic system. Yes, nepalese politicians didn't play well with it, however, democracy is the only way to lead the country towards where we ideally want it to go. Constitutional Monarchy is as absurd as it can get. Monarch supported by the country-fed so called RNA never abides by the constitution whatsoever. He manipulates the constitution and do everything that favors him. So the governing system has to go beyond the Monarch, a mere person and should treat all equally. I know, we failed with our democracy in the past ~15 years, but still we shouldn't quit. We must get rid off the monarch.
Gri has already challenged the political parties to choose one- either Monarchy or Democracy. I dont understand why political parties can't go straightforward with multi party democracy, I dont understand why they can't act FULL TIME to kick G and his roots out of where he is now.

Yes, it is True and Reality. There is No alternative or Other way unless arrest corrupt and criminals Nepalese and give them death penalties as well as seize their properties to save Nepal, Democracy, Peace and Human Rights. This is only true and final solution.

We can not elect crooks people as leaders and establish government and political parties because these leaders suppose to drive people and nation toward positive future.

But it is not happening in Nepal and Nepalese mentality as well as action.

You can not ask security to the Rapist, Thief and Murderer to take care your mother or sisters. You must know what will be the consequence of it.

We did something to our mother land.

We must understand by now , or we will never.

There indeed is no any alternative to a democracy in today?s world and Nepal is no any exception.
But who is going to carry the torch of democracy. Will it be Girija , the NC autocrat himself or Makuney or Prachanda extreme leftist, or the people throwing stones and banging barrels and shouting about ?sambidhan sava ? and having no clue about it like me . Or me myself, hahaha that will be joke ,or you all concerned sajha people?.. Settled in us or the uk and are never coming back to Nepal.
I visit this site and I see a lot of threads about paras riding a Harley, big deal???.. the neta people still use their pajero thought about that. Neta who have no source of income except if they have some farming somewhere specially if they have their fields in terai, pahad ko ubjani ley ta bhutro thamcha . nepal ko sarkari jagire ko katti chora chori holau yo sajha ma auney america janey ticket kinnu kasari sakyo tei sochum na testai they are still riding around and you might know the price of the petrol now in Nepal ?. Sochum sahti haru ?.. America ma po neta ko term sake pachi afno afni pesa ma lagcha Nepal ma ta testo hudaina???.. why big deal about paras, je jasto bha pani usko bhanney thaun ta cha raja ko choro hu bhanney, neta haru ko ke cha ?. Prasna garum na uni harulai pani kasari ayo kasari chaldaicha, sappai ko budi Dr. arju deuba ta hunna ni ghar chaalai rakhney. sathi haru Nepal ko pradhan mantri ko talab 20 hajar chan chun ma huncha plus eke ke benefit tara party ko sappai manchey ta mantra ra pradhan mantra hunnan hola?uni haru ko gadi cha ghar cha chali rako cha???.

Prajatantra ta ramro ni sapsey utttam sansar ma prayog bhayera dherai thaun ma saabit bhai sakeko cheez?.nepal ma ni ayo tara safal hunu sakena aba kunai din feri auncha tara tyo prajatantra yo 10 barsa bhitra dekhiyo bhaney girija ko much dekhnu parcha?tyo much kati apasagun ho bhnera ta desh ley dekhi sakyo aba dekhnu naparos???

I agree there is no alternative to democracy. But I would rather wait. I am not gonna throw myself behind same leaders who failed us miserably.

We gave them all chances to lead in the 90s and they showed their true color. They are again using the same tactic to fool us with different slogan. Somewhat like a prostitute. So I will wait to see a new generation of leaders. It is better to be safe than to rush in unknown territory. Lets not make a hasty decision like we did in the past which lead us to pathetic state.

I would rather push for better leaders within parties.

Serious grievances against elected political leaders are perfectly legitimate. What is NOT right is to express those grievances by uprooting the SYSTEM -- the SYSTEM OF DEMOCRACY.

There is a better way of dealing with corrupt and inept leaders: VOTE THEM OUT!

If we could not, or were not, doing what we should have done -- to DEMOCRATICALLY vote corrupt and inept individuals out -- then it is OUR collective weakness that needs to be re-examined. this collective fault could have been -- and should have been -- corrected through FURTHER STRENGTHENED DEMOCRACY.

Yes indeed there are no alternatives to Democracy.

But democracy does not run on its own. Let us not get carried away with our idealistic beliefs, and simply assume democracy is end of all the means. We need capable 'madari' (Badar nachaune manche) to actually control and manage the monkeys in our system. Monkey is not an apt metaphor for they have certainly made 'their' home(s).

But the point is, agreed that democracy is although not prefect, the best form of government there is in the market. Even then, is it not too easy to say, it is WE the PEOPLE who have power, WE can do this and that? Now, let us open our eyes, scratch the surface, and check the groud reality. Shall we?

EXHIBIT I. Most of the corrupt leader WILL NOT loose election simply because they run from their constituencies; that is hundreds of miles in some remote villages where the unfortunate people are struggling for a meal a day. Voting them out? Tell you what, it is as hard as kicking Gyane out.

Exhibit II. The literacy rate is close to 0. Yes, ZERO. What does that say? What else? Of course it EXPLICITELY IMPLIES that there are no ways they can or to be more precise, there are no ways they would be able to exercise their judgment free of manipulation. And guess what happens then? Yep, you guessed it. Exactly.

EXHIBIT III. In some cases parties gives two tickets to the most corrupt ones, i.e., Girija and all, making sure that they have BETTER chance of getting elected. What's more, there are NO democratic ways to determine who gets the ticket for election. JASKO SAKTI USKO BHAKTI.

Exhibit IV. No matter how loud a noise we make, not all of us can go to the parliament house and ask question to the ministers, prime minister and other elected people's representatives. Guess who does that in the house? We all know it. They themselves.
Kasle kaslai chor bhanne? Yeuta aula uthayo, char afuma.

Yes we can voice our concerns and asks for and answers, from press and other limited means. Guess what happens then? They tend to close their NAKK, KAAN, and ANKHA. LAAJ pachi sakepachi Aru ke le chuncha? Have we not seen this scenario way too often? Who is to say this doesn't happen again? Kaag karaudai garcha, pina sukdai. Hey, we can do dhunga muda barsaune, julus jane, rellin bhachne , tyre jalaune; ah.. what a fun. :)

And we wait for ANOTHER 5 YEARS to vote them out. And may I take the liberty to guess what happens then? Read from Exhibit I-IV, again and again and again.

The bottom line is, no matter how many analogies we make, what the benefits democracy can bring and all those idealistic scenario, accept it or not, as long as these corrupt leeches are running the show, essentially making a mockery of democracy ( hellooooooooooooooooo are they no the on who ASKED to dissolve the parliament?) the democracy that we often talk about, will NOT come.

The ABSOLUTE precondition for people to join the movement, (needless to mention without whom only few hundred 'bhatuwas' and party's RS. 50 karyekartas would shout slogan and do the drama of getting arrested not to mention getting "abbir" and "phoolmala" and a snap shot in the daily post), IS TO THROW AWAY the corrupt leader, bring democracy within the parties, and make certain leaders are held ACCOUNTABLE for their deeds and so on and so forth.

Failing which, let us have fun in Sajha and other forums for our own fun and self righteous ego boosting in the name of mental stimulation and fight for democracy, when the population by and large do not, to be very frank, do not give a rat's ass.

NOW, let's talk democracy. :). Of course it is the best form of government. As much as we would talk about people being the real power in democracy, it is the leaders that lead the population. And like it or not, they tend to be largely responsible to channelize the direction our largely illiterate and hungry unfortunate people and the nation would go.

Now the real question is WHO will be that capable leader? Or better still DO WE HAVE a leader in our nation? No seriously, let us not entertain ourselves by pleasing each other that it is going to happen. Without the capable and able leadership and not discarding these old snakes, democracy will come IF AND WHEN the royal bad ass DADA gyane decides. Cry as much or whine if it pleases, the politicians are inept. They can not even change their party; let us not kid ourselves that they are going to change our nation. So much for democracy.

And just how is ABSOLUTIST TYRANNY supposed make ammends for all the affor-mentioned "exibits"? Steps backwards will not lead us forward.

ALL the corrections needed in our political scenario will have absolutely no teeth WHATSOEVER unless they are mandated by the PEOPLE. How do you assess/access peoples mandate? DEMOCRACY!

Therefore, corrections (like getting rid of the currupt INDIVIDUALS) can never be a precondition to democracy. It should be the other way around: Freewill of the people is the utmost precondition to ANY rectifications that the society may desire. This will ensure that much-needed changes/reforms will come from the people, by the people, and, therefore, for the PEOPLE.

Tulsi Giri is right: democracy and monarchy can\'t co-exist. Now cut out the crap about \'corrupt\' leader or whatever and chose your side. Get involved. Fight for your values. And let the correct side win.

Poonte is absolutely right. There should never be ANY preconditions to Democracy because Democracy is the "be-all end-all" and is universally applicable. No matter what the odds may be, we should keep on clinging on to the type of democracy we thrived in during the nineties, indefinitely.

Another reason we should push for democracy is because being seen as a democrat helps win over advocacy groups like ICG to our side. Never mind what the ICG says or writes, as long as it is for our position and we can play the "fighting for democracy card," we should come out on top. Plus, we can feel good about ourselves and ICG can feel important because god forbid if their analysis is wrong, we can stay in Nepal and kill each other and ICG can get even more funding to provide even more ?coherent? analysis.

Also, in the current situation, being seen as an "full democrat" will definitely attract the undivided attention of other followers like Pramod Aryal and his Nepali Congress friends. All we have to do is make sure there is enough and alcohol (for the alcoholics) and cigarettes (for the chain smokers) and we can be sure for entertainment like the kind Pramod provided for us in Dallas.

Who gives a damn whether Gyanendra is related to Pritvi Narayan Shah or not? Trying desperately to prove that Gyanendra is not royal blood proves only one thing ? Pramod and his ?handlers? in Nepal must be desperately out of their god damn minds. Kedar Shrestha may not be the right man for the Ambassador job? but this rant coming out of Pramod?s mouth is like the RCCC convicting Deuba ? the rant becomes proportional to amount of guilt and in the end, Mr. Shrestha will be Ambassador and Mad Dog (MD) Pramod will still be an idiot.

Sorry for being sidetracked but Pramod?s Oscar nomination performance deserves ridicule. With people like him calling for an end to monarchy, Gyanendra needs no friends.

Getting back to the point.. everything Poonte says is 100% correct. In fact, it reads exactly like a paragraph from a book called ?Democracy for Idiots ? How to topple a regime and take its place.?

Stop all this bull shit and focus on how you plan to assassinate Gyanendra, control the army, integrate the Maoists and eliminate the top 10% of all political parties (Mad Dog Aryal does not qualify). If you want ?with the people, by the people, for the people, on the people, to the people, in the people, with the mandate of the people? etc.? then start by doing something other than trying to sound so intelligent and democratic.

Go the Maoist way so after we take over Nepal, we can collectively rid the country of all idiots once and for all?. Starting with the Gyanendra and ending with the ?I love Nepal so much, I am going to play Congressi politics in Atlanta" or the "I am a democrat and speak for Nepalis while I pretend to be a Nepali politician in New York? types from our midst.

Nepal not only need a Republic, it needs a system that keeps the ?do-ers? and eliminates the ?say-ers.?

AnilJShahi,
Let me ask you one question:

What is worse?

Absolute Monarchy or Anarchy?

Please just answer with one word.

I do not know answer for whowever is Anil Shahi, but I would take termporary anarchy (then people's democracy) over absolute monarchy or any political party that is in Nepali politics.

Don't worry about what is happening in Nepal because that makes no difference unless you are on the ground, experiencing the reality by yourself and have gut to do something. If you NOT in Nepal or you can do nothing, you'd better focus on what you are doing - go to Indian Restaurant and make money for living!

Because of Newton's III law...???

What makes you so sure that it wouldn't?

My point here is not to play this "I am smarter than you" game; nor is it to have you write an essay on the virtues of absolute monarchy over anarchy.

My only point is to highlight that the only logical answer to your question, is itself a question.

I read all your Exhibits above. I cannot say that I disagree with your exposition. However, it seems we disagree on our propositions. That is fine... you keep on writing and talking.... meanwhile, my comrades and I will contine to exploit your weaknesses and come out on top.

Jham Jham... you and your RNA types can kiss my ass. You assumed you could elimiate Nepal's freedom fighters, you assume you can count on Gyanendra no matter what, you assume too much.

Let me tell you something I have learned about assumption... it is the mother of all F**K-ups. Don't think that because some have no choice but to work for a living that they will never rise up through the ranks.

You may be one of those who works in Nepal and lives a good life in KTM. Consider this for a minute.... probably that waiter in the Indian Restaurant makes your monthly salary in one weekend. Not so funny now is it?
