Maoists rape 25 women in Saptari

KATHMANDU, Aug 23 - A group of Maoists raped over two-dozen women at gunpoint, in a Dalit settlement at Jagatpur-4, Saptari district, last week.
The rebels also threatened to "completely destroy" the hamlet if their crime was revealed. The incident came to light only on Monday.

About two-dozen Maoist rebels who had come here five days ago raped females aged between 22 and 35 years in the village. The victims recounted their harrowing experience in front of a group of human rights activists and journalists who reached the village yesterday.

"They (the Maoist rebels) first told us to prepare food," said one of the rape-victims,"After they had eaten, they forcibly carried us inside the house and perpetrated the heinous act in front of our family members." She was raped in the presence of her elderly in-laws.

All the youth have left the village since a long time, due to increasing Maoist atrocities. Only women, children and the elderly remain in the village.

There are about 25 dalit families in the village, which lies north of Koshi riverbank. Locals are terrified after the incident. "If they learn that we told you about the incident, they will come and kill us," said one of the victims, sobbing.

After word spread about the ghastly crime, the Maoist leadership of the area came to the victims and "apologized". "They prostrated themselves at the victims' feet begging forgiveness and also pledged to take action against those involved," said the father-in-law of a victim.

Locals said that Maoist rebels had carried out mass rapes on previous occasions but threats from Maoists had forced them to remain quiet about it. (snn)

Let's not get into the cyclic reference of dependent and independent sources because it's only buying a way out. The fact of the matter is that if maoist don't kill then they rape. What is worse? Killing or Raping?

They have killed a lot more than they have raped. Raping is bad enough and we have so much anger towards that. But they have killed a lot more and we need to realize that under their politics of fear, anything they do is valid.

Maoists need to be eliminated before Nepal can move forward.

A very horrific and disgusting act by the maoists. It obviously demonstrates the inhumane nature of the maoist team. But yet again what else could be expected from a group of savages who cut every part of the human body before finall killing an innocent man? I do not know who are in support of the maoists and I do not have proper idea of the agendas of the maoist, but any person who would take the life of an innocent is not a freedom fighter in anyway.

I see that people are enraged by the act of the maoists, and they have a good reason for it too. But as mentioned this has been happening but was behind the curtain and now it is finally out in the blue. Do we know the name of the men involved in the act? NO. Do we know if they will be punished? NO. Do we have any means of getting them and prosecuting them? NO!

What is the solution for all this? I am truly shaken by the incident and yet fail to think about any solution to the problem. I cant even imagine how the ladies should have felt after all this happening in front of their elderly in-laws. But no matter how hard I try, I do not see any solution to all this!

Let's not forget that a lot of social criminals, who have escaped from prisons in villages or have gone missing after commiting any kind of social crimes, have joined the Maoists. So what can we expect from a group filled with criminal in the first place? And as much as I am disgusted by their actions, I am even more disgusted by people who consider themselves educated and openly show support to these barbarians.

It is indded sad. This is just another incident from a long list of crimes committed by Mao which is nothing surprising. What surprises me more is there are lots of DIe Hard fans like Turbulence who dont see the dark side of Mao. I hope this is a wake up call for everyone.

Politicians are screwed up who brought us all to the present state. King is also not showing any lights at the end of tunner. So no one knows where we are headed.

Gurungbrohero, who tell you I am a blind supporter of Maoist?! Who the hell you are to stop me tell what I see right and what wrong. I have already written above, we have to condemn the crime done by Maoist cadres if it is true. There will be definitely comments about it from Maoist side in few days about this incident. What I know about Maoist is that they can not do this kind of inhuman crime.
