We all know King Gyanendra usurped the power on February 1, 2005 through a coup and since then he is presiding over a regime with a corrupt and criminal coterie. The regime has unleashed an environment of terror through the royal militia called the Royal Nepali Army (RNA) as well as several death squads created on its behalf. These royal militia and the death squads continue to kill innocent lives of Nepali sons and daughters in the name of a so-called counter-insurgency.
Keeping in view the undemocratic actions of the king, the international community has stopped most of the bilateral and multilateral military as well as non-military aid to the royal regime protesting the king?s autocratic actions and its blatant human rights abuses.
Nonetheless, King Gyanendra and his henchmen are not fettered. What makes them so bold to unleash tyranny over the Nepali people? The answer: the remittance money from the estimated 1.5 million Nepalis living and working abroad (other than India) sent to Nepal each day to buy land, build living quarters, pay loans, and educate the children.
The latest official figures show remittances from Nepalis living abroad accounts for 20% of Nepal?s 6.5 billion U.S. dollar Gross Domestic Product ( GDP). Because more than 60% of these foreign remittances enter Nepal through informal - thus, unaccounted channels ? the contributions of we the Nepalis residing and working abroad to economy of Nepal can be much higher than official records indicate. We can, therefore, safely assume that the hard-earned money of Nepali expatriates contributes about 50% GDP of Nepal.
What does this mean in the current political situation? At least 50% of Nepal?s internal revenue ? money that, cumulatively, sustains a nation that cannot sustain itself and which is being used in suppressing its own citizens - is direct or indirect contribution of we, the Nepali expatriates, around the globe.
What would happen if we collectively stopped sending non-emergency money to Nepal? The royal regime ? that has forecasted spending 66% of its budget for Fiscal Year 2005/2006 in non-development sector, of which around 11% is defense budget - would crumble financially. The income that sustains the regime would fail to flow. If it looses 100% of its foreign grant money for Fiscal Year 2005/2006 plus close to 50% of the projected domestic revenue (domestic revenue being remittance money sent to Nepal) the regime?s inability to govern Kathmandu would become imminent.
If we wish, therefore, to demonstrate our democratic republican aspirations, we can fight against the corrupt and autocratic royal regime and the RNA terrorism with our financial weapon, i.e., we can use it to help choke the regime to death financially by not sending any money to Nepal. A remittance boycott that would result in a catastrophic budget deficit in Fiscal Year 2005/2006 is a powerful, non-violent weapon we have in our hands.
Therefore, Canadian Network for Democratic Nepal (CNDN) strongly appeals to all concerned that no Nepalis abroad send non-emergency money to family and friends in Nepal. We also humbly request that all Nepali community organizations active around the globe participate in our financial impediment drive and disseminate this appeal to members and friends urging them not to send money to Nepal before the demise of the autocratic royal regime. Together, we can help make this a reality to build new Nepal.

Mr. Paribartan. I strongly oppose to your response to Nepal's problem. This is the worst way of doing. Why everyone in Nepal thinks in the way that makes things more worse? The approach of Maoists are not different than your or your group's approach. Have you analyzed what'll happen to people? I don't like the present regime. But I don't want nepali people to be sacrificed for changing the regime. Why do you care so much? You're living abroad any way. They've more right for responding than the people living abroad. I love the people.

Your approach will lead to worsen all the conditions including health, education, food, environment in Nepal. There'll be starvation all around. Not only that once people learn to invest abroad, they won't care much about Nepal even if Nepal's government become more democratic than US. Noone is satisfied with their property. They want to earn more. So if they or us or whoever can get more profit by investing in other areas, why will they or us send money to Nepal? Why do I need to listen to you? How can you convince to send money later? How long will it take to change the regime? HOW MANY MORE DEATHS YOU WANT TO SEE IN NEPAL? Enough is enough. For god's sake, don't share your ridiculous ideas here.

I don't think even int'l community should stop sending aid to Nepal. This will just aggravate the situation and lead to humitarian crisis. If they're wise enough, they should act more directly. For example, rather than sending the amount in bulk, which can be misused by government, they should act more directly like by sending food, equipments, human resources, medicines, clothes.

I WANT TO SEE DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT AND PEACE IN NEPAL. But I don't want it again to be for the trade of nepali people. We, nepalese (real nepalese), have suffered enough. We're definitely unhappy but not ready to be another martyrs.

The easiest way is to throw him back what he did to his brother. Just finish all of them. But who is going to tie the bell in the neck of the Cat.

paribartan,

This is the most stupid idea I ever heard. This shows your intention. This shows you are more concerned with power rather than the democracy. You mean to say you can sacrifice all the Nepalese for the sake of democracy. Do not forget the norms of the democracy. Its for the people, by the people.

I totally oppose your proposal. Down with the opportunists.

You're saying we should stop sending non emergency money to Nepal to crumble this Royal Regime? Are you out of your mind or are you smoking dope?

Maybe you come from a well of family, but most people who send money to Nepal send to their family for thier day to day lives. What you are saying is ok let's make our family suffer by not sending them any money.

Who do you think people send the money to besides their families?

Get your head out of the crap hole.

I read statement of Mr. Paribartan and arguments for and against it. I agree with Mr. Paribartan. I understand the concern of the people who argue against Paribartan's statement, yes I agree that people will suffer. But are not they suffering now? I think if you do not cure "Chalne Pilo" due to the pain associated with the cure, you will suffer more and you will suffer for ever. And it is true that no girls refrain from getting married due to fear of pregnancy and the pain associated with it. Thus, the monarchy is "Chalne Pilo" of Nepal and we should accept the pain of curing it. We most accept the pain every new mother feels that is the pain of creation of new life. Let us create new life or new Democratic Republic of Nepal. I am with you Mr. Paribartan

Mr pemba, I am Brightening myself more now. People are suffering in Nepal from long time. They are tired of it. they will more likely to suffer short time;not getting money from any abroad friend or family. Rather then getting money from abroad and busted by RNA.
We all understand that some people really need moneyfor their daily lives. Wehave to help them. However, i have seen alot of nepali friends are sending money for extra expenses. I might doing the same thing. They will spend more if they have more. they dont know they are pointing axe toward their tow. It is better to leave them on the same stage, what it was before u came here for some time. After all its all theirs'. Lets not send a goat to the tigers den.

With due respect, the person who started this thread seems quite ignorant of the situation in Nepal. At the present situation, only King Gyane is THE MAN. Over and over politicians have failed us (I think you are aware of that) So now the option is Maoists. Do you want them to rule Nepal?

I think if this somehow weakens the corrupt royal regime, we should go for it. About the non-emergency fund, if this is how the family survives, we can probably consider it the emergency fund and keep sending.
I have not really done much research on it so unable to be very positive but it somehow seems like a good plan to threaten and oust the royals from the palace. Have had enough of them, specially Gyane, kick him out of palace! Treat him like Saddam.

lemme ask you guys a question. did the international embargo on iraq during the 90's weaken saddam's regime? the answer would be a big fat emphatic NO!!!! on the contrary, poor iraqis became poorer, and saddam's grip on power solidified. how can ppl muster up the energy to revolt when they don't have food in their stomachs?

the question that you asked is simply wishful thinkin. it ain't happenin. the poor cook working in dubai who left his family behind so that he could provide a higher quality of life ain't gonna stop sending the money back to his mom and wife (who would probably starve otherwise) just cos some dumbo said so...

Totally agreed with Zalim on this one. Why people come up with such a stupid idea that only effects the commoners. Morons, what is the norm of democracy? Its for the people. Why do you forget its for the people and not for the poltical leaders.

Instead of these stupid ideas, why do not you look at errors made in the past? How come king came back into power?

First of all these stupid ass leaders should develop a common ground. With all these shits they are still fighting. Come up with concrete plan to deal with insurgency, corruption and plans to avoid previous mistakes.

No body gives a fuc* cause still there are people who can use their brain. ONce stabbed in the back, I aint ready for it again.

Moron Paribartan, you need to whiped in the open ground to come up with such a ridiculous idea. This shows your true self and I fuc*ing spit on it.
