What is your religion? Why do you choose to be this religion?

Also do you think the anti-conversion law should be changed in Nepal?

OK, I am a Christian and as soon as i utter the word, all Nepalis are like how can that be, who converted you and why did you convert, etc.
I feel Christians are treated like second class citizens in Nepal. But then i converted becasue i am in the religion. For me this is the truth, not because of any other things.
Also, i do not think any law will affect your personal religious beliefs even though they are implemented. Because if i feel a certain belief is affecting me and changing my way of life, i will adapt to it no matter what happens.. Those laws are for the people who do things for pleasing others.

But looking from another angle, i feel our government is a hypocrite, as they rejoice when some foreigner convert into Buddhist or Hindu but then again condemn when Nepalis convert in to Christianity!!!! But i think this is all politics. For a normal people like me it does not affect.

But then i am a Christian.... i believe every word in the BIBLE

I am Jewish...I came to this religion as I never really was convinced of the polytheistic deities in Hinduism...And I see many flaws with Hinduism as a whole...At the age of 15, I became particularly interested with Buddhism, but decided it wasnt for me as I did not want to waste my life in a monastery or under a banyan tree...I never gave Christianity a second thought as the religion itself is so cliche...But none of my friends were Jewish, and I like to be different so I thought "why not give this a shot"...that was about 16 years ago and I havent looked back or regetted my decision..My parents struggled with my choice at firt as they didnt even attend my Bar Mitzvah, however now they are comfortable with my religion as I am...

Happy Hannukah

I worship Hindu Gods and Goddesses, I prefer the label Hindu. Hinduism is not a religion one converts into like Christianity or Islam. I am a Hindu because I believe in that philosophy ALL GOD IS ONE.

Hindu faith is very encompassing, it accepts all other religions, that is why there is no 'conversion' and one won't see or meet any 'Hindu missionaries'. I believe Hinduism is the oldest religion and other religion came after that. I don?t see difference among Mohammad, Jesus, Budhha, Rajnish (Osho) and others, but Hinduism is different.

I call myself a Christian. Yes, what Manab says is true. Christians are looked down upon in Nepal .. especially the converts. But let's face it. Nepal is a Hindu kingdom not a christian state. Just as a Hindu would face a prejudiced against in Pakistan and a Muslim would face a prejudiced against in the USA, a Christian would naturally be treated like this in a Hindu kingdom. It's human nature and it's there everywhere in the world. I feel bad but it's reality. We have to face it.

I never used to go to church in Nepal. I was never a member of any congregation. My home was my church. I read from the Bible and I used to pray in my own room .. with my own family.

Having said that, I am against forceful conversion of any person into other religion. I can spread the word of God thru my love, not force. Noone preached Christianity to me when I converted. Thankfully, when I married I married someone who had already come to Christ. I was not looking for a Christian woman for marriage but it was because of God's love for me that he found a Christian woman for me.

And, finally, no matter what religion we technically belong to, we must remember that the biggest religion in the world is love. Every religion teaches us to love one another. There is no religion that tells us to harm others. So, live and let live. Love. And Peace.

I think first of all; we need to understand what is the thing called "religion". To me, the thing called "religion" is just the knife that has cut us into small pieces. It has cut humanity, love, and entire world into small divisions.... it has been cutting and cutting.. and cutting everything !! It has never brought us together; because religion is like a knife. Everyone of us know what a knife does, right? It does its job to cut and divide !
How many of us are aware that religion has been the root- cause of all the hatrate and war in the world ? I think we can restore love, peace and humanity in the world and bring us together by wiping out the thing called "religion" !

First of all:
Hinduism is not about worshipping idols.

Hinduism is not only about being healthy(vegetarianism), doing Yoga, using Ayurvedic medicines to cure for many illnesses around the world. The glamour of Hindusim in Holiday or in diet and medical field is only a small tip of the iceberg.

Hinduism to me, is a scientific study of life, living and liberty. Which allows Hindus to convert to other religions. That is one of the greatest freedom about my religion. It is the only religion that doesn't say, you can only worship "me" and follow "my ways".
Hindusim is not limited to a gender, it is not limited to Jesus. Mohammod or the unseen. It is not limited to the father/son and the holy spirit.

Hinduism teaches us to worship not only Godsbut also Goddesses/our paretns, Father/Mother/Brothersister/Teachers/Animals/Spirits/ and the rest of the world inbetween. Ofcourse, every religion does that but "kaag tiahar" "kukur tihar" "gai tihar" "bhai tika" "mata tirtha aushi" "guru purnima" are all the days when Hindus are taught to think outside of box, find, love, admiration and respect to others bigger and smaller than us. The earth, the sun, the water, the environment nature is also our God. It is not limited to idols in the temples!!!!!!

Our father. mother, pets, birds, those who come to our doors are also treated as Gods. All is God and God is all, that is the principal behind Hinduism. Those, who find it necessary to convert for a better life may do so, Hindusim allows that. It is not a religion of hypocrits. Hindusim teaches love not just for humans but for animals and the dirt as well.

Hindusim has a room for people of every religion. Hindus don't go around the world trying to preach these things. People convert to Hinduism/Buddhism on their own , they have a right to. However, when Christians come to our doors offering food, money, education to follow their religious beliefs as if POOR PEOPLE ARE POOR BECAUSE OF THEIR RELIGION, they are implying their faith is superior than ours.

Which is false. Untrue. Religion attained that way is not genuine but in the long run it ruins peoples identity which is often tied to ones own "santan dharma".

Jai Nepal!!

I have hardly anything to say since m4madhu has put all my views in such a perfection but please take some time to read the following paragraphs which may enlightened your views on spirituality.

"One of the greatest diseases in this world is religions, because they have been fighting, they have been killing, and for reasons in which nobody is interested.

Christianity was the first religion to create in people's minds the idea that a war too can be religious. And Mohammedanism and other religions have followed, slaughtering each other in the name of God.

War as such is irreligious. There cannot be anything like a crusade, a jihad, a holy war! If you call war "holy" then what is left to be called unholy?

Who is interested in God except the priests?

I have never come across a man who is really interested in God. If you offer him five dollars in one hand and God in another, he will take the five dollars and he will say: "God is eternal, we will see later on. For the moment five dollars will be helpful."

But the priests are interested, because God is their business, and they want their business to spread.

The religions have destroyed man's integrity.

They have broken him -- not only in parts but into opposing parts, and these parts are continuously fighting with each other. In this way they have made humanity schizophrenic; they have given everybody a split personality. It has been done in a very clever and cunning way by condemning your body, your sex -- by turning you against your own nature.

All the religions are against everything that man can enjoy. It is their vested interest to keep man miserable, to destroy every possibility of his finding peace, joy and fulfillment -- to find paradise here, now.

Your misery is absolutely needed for the "other world" to exist. For example, if your sex is really fulfilled, you don't need God, because your life is fulfilled. But if your sex is condemned, repressed, destroyed, if you are made to feel guilty about it -- then God can go on living forever. God derives his energy from your suicide!

The religions have taught you that you are not part of this world; you are here to be punished, to repent your "original sin." They had to do it in order to create God, who is a poetic fiction; and to create heaven, which is an extension of human greed; and to make people afraid of hell, which is to create a great fear in the very center of the human soul. Of course those fictions are very profitable to the priests.

No religion accepts the simple, natural and factual phenomenon that man is a unity -- body and consciousness together -- and this world is not separate from man. Man is rooted in this world just as trees are rooted. And the roots are as essential a part of the tree as the flowers. In fact, without roots there wouldn't be any tree!

This planet, this earth, is our mother and we are all part of one life force -- part of one oceanic existence. And because we are one deep inside at our center, the possibility of love exists.

I am against all organized religions, without any exception, for the simple reason that truth cannot be organized, love cannot be organized -- it is not politics.

All these religions have made you parts of crowds, dependent on the crowds. They have taken away your individuality, your freedom, your intelligence. In its place they have given you bogus beliefs, which mean nothing.

Belief is just a strategy to deceive yourself.

You don't want to go on the path of seeking, searching, discovering. It is arduous, because you will have to drop many superstitions, and you will have to deprogram yourself from many conditionings from the past which are preventing you from knowing the truth, from knowing yourself. No belief can help, and all religions are based on belief -- that's why they are called "faiths."

Truth is a search, not a faith. It is an inquiry, not a belief. It is a question, a quest. To avoid this search you easily become gullible, you easily become victims of anybody who is ready to exploit you.

And naturally it feels cozy in a crowd. There are six hundred million Catholics. It feels cozy. And it feels like six hundred million people cannot be wrong. You may be wrong, but six hundred million people cannot be wrong -- but that's what every one of them is thinking.

Four hundred million Hindus feel that they are right, and the same is true about Mohammedans, Buddhists and other religions.

A religion should be not a dead organization, but a kind of religiousness, a loving heart, a friendliness towards the whole. For these, no holy scriptures are needed.

An authentic religiousness needs no prophets, no saviors, no churches, no popes, no priests -- because religiousness is the flowering of your heart.

If religiousness spreads all over the world the religions will fade away. It will be a tremendous blessing to humanity when man is simply man, neither Christian, nor Mohammedan, nor Hindu.

Religiousness is an individual affair. It is a message of love from you to the whole cosmos. Only then will there be a peace that passeth all misunderstanding...otherwise these religions have been parasites, exploiting people, enslaving people, forcing people to believe -- and all beliefs are against intelligence.

Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Mohammedanism ? these are only ideologies, dogmas, creeds; they are only cults. The true religion has no name, it cannot have any name. Buddha lived it, Jesus lived it ? but remember, Jesus was not a Christian and Buddha was not a Buddhist, he had never heard of the word. The truly religious people have been simply religious, they have not been dogmatic."

i have no religion as such. all i believe in is the value of life, how i can help in making this world better and live life with my own judgement of right and wrong (with few shades of grey being ever-present).
I do read buddhist manuscripts and philosophies but I m not limited to them as such. I try to experience the truth rather than just being limited to reading and discussing about it.

xxx dude

I do not call my self as a Buddhist but I'm deeply impressed by its realistic approach
to counter or at least to ease the problems of any human beings as well as society as a whole.

You gotta keep in mind that in the course of its 2500 years of history not a single war has been fought in the name of Buddhism nor as an excuse to defend Buddhism.

2000-year-old Buddhist masterpieces in the central province of Bamiyan Afginastan was dismantled in 2001 by Taliban regime and not a single Buddhist harmed another person of any another religion.

All the religions were meant to promote humanity, compassion, brotherhood etc and none of the religions are faulty by itself. The fault lies on those who have interpreted religions in a way to serve or to promote their vested self interests.

Why do you call yourselves Hindus? Christians? Buddhists? Is it because you go to temples, churches, monasteries? I am a Christian because I believe in Christ. I have accepted him in my personal life. All who go to Church are not Christians. One cannot be a Christian simply because he/she is born in a Christian family. One becomes Christian only after he/she accepts Christ as his/her personal saviour. This is what the Bible says and my church too emphasizes on this. To be a Christian is not like being a Hindu or Buddhist.

I am happy that I am a third generation Christian. Its hard to believe that there are third generation Christians in Nepal, but its true.

I agree with you in the Christian views and it feels great that there are nepali Christians here, i thought i was the only one.

I think Christianity is the greatest religion when it comes to showing love, i have gone through other religions also but it all teaches you is to love yourself. Lets face it, have you ever heard a hindu person saying that 'in dashain he would like to give his salary or dashain bonus for another poor family so that he can eat. I mean all i hear is that we will cut Khasi, have mashu and play cards and enjoy life. Same thing with any other festival.

But then if one call yourself a good christian then the first thing we are supposed to do is give, give our time to church, give our money and all our festivals teaches to give. At least for me and that is the biggest message for LOVE. It is not easy to share another person about your faith and christianity, it is a big humilation, we just heard how people hate that and that is again giving i would say.

It is easy to say that we believe in love and do not practice it but then for me Christ showed the ultimate love and i am always encouraged to give to people may it be time or sharing or anything and that is what true christians do.

And again Christianity is not a religion or a western view, it is a relationship and relationship with Christ and God and unless you have personally gone through that relationship, one cannot describe it and cannot feel how much it means.

Sometimes, the whole problem that we face in Nepal i feel is because we have not learned to give, not learn to share with our brothers and sisters of the country who are in need and that is why we suffer. Look at our king, i mean, have you ever heard our king or any other dignitaries making committment to give anything. They just want to live for themselves.

I am not telling that all Chrsitians are good and rest are bad, because i know so many of my friends from different faith who are so passionate about others, i am only talking about LOVE here and for me personally, my religion has taught it and i love that relationship part of it.

And again i am not trying to prove anything, just purely sharing my views and my thought with free mind. Please no offence to anyone or anything.....

Gautam Buddha was not a god, he never proclaimed himself as god and he asked his large number of followers NOT to worship him like a god. He rather asked follwers of his teachings to achieve something that is equivalent to Buddha's own achievement.

During his teachings he once told his followers: "Never proclaim your religion(Buddhism)
as the greatest relgion in this world and never despise someone else's religion"
