Welcome to Minnesota program

From www.anmn.org...

In last several months, a huge number of Nepali families and Butanese refugees of Nepali origin have migrated to MN from Nepal. ANMN on behalf of Nepali community have setup a program called "Welcome to MN". There'll be Nepali snacks (e.g. Samosa, Nepali tea, fruits etc.). This event is sponsored by Empower Nepali Women Program. There will be Nepali women professionals who will be making presentations and answering questions in live interaction program to help newcomers adjust in MN.

We did a similar workshop in Aug. 16th at Mt. Olivett Church but lots of newcomers could not attend due to various reasons, transportation being the chief among them. Therefore the presenation format will be same as Aug 16th.

Please make every effort to attend this session either as expert to share your experiences or learn from others. Please spread the word if you know any new Nepali who doesn't have access to email or any other form of communication with MN Nepali community yet.

Additionally, we need lots of volunteer for transportation. Please contact us if you could volunteer.
Agenda:

1) Welcome to MN from Nepalese in MN.
2) Orientation for Nepali-American life to the newcomers.
3) Understanding Financial side of American life.
4) How to parent in cross-cultural life.
5) Interactive discussion and Q&A

Date: Oct 5, 2008

Venue: Lauderdale Community Center
Time: 1pm - 3pm

Snacks provided

Empower Nepali Women in MN Program

I dont know if this thread is still alive or not but hey I am hoping to join minnesota state university at mankato or university of minnesota ar crookston or university of minnesota at morris. As per what I have heard , it is a little easy than other states to work and pay for university and the rent. But I heard from my friend that it is hard there to work and pay and he is transferring to cali . I am trying to apply for undergrad there and I have a year of software engineering experience. I am ready to work my ass off but I need some head start

I lived in Minnesota for almost 6 years and graduated from University in Minnesota. You can't go wrong with the schools' in Minnesota, great professors and fabulous university. Undergrad program is great and MN is affordable too in every aspect. MetroTransit does great job with bus service in and around twin cities, great people and very helpful Nepali community. You would always feel connected with Nepali community there (Thats what I feel).
